How to boost RAM ?

Fiasco doesn't even begin to describe Clean Master.

http://androidforums.com/threads/pu...k-killers-ram-optimizers-and-the-like.896663/

And this morning I learned that mods and admin at Samsung support forums (not ours) are actually hard over telling people to use it - and that's just pathetic.

Meanwhile, and I wish I were making this up but I'm not - it's now coming in as standard equipment on the new Galaxy S6.

Clean Master is one of Android's biggest-selling apps - thanks in no small part to their malware campaign to gain installs (yes, you read that right, no, I am not making that up, yes, I do have proof linked in the thread above).

If that doesn't speak volumes about the company making it, I don't know what does.

Meanwhile - avoid it, most definitely.

Ram manager. select the hard gaming option to keep more free memory at all times. this works by actually changing how much forgeround and background processes/services/and apps the system tries to maintain. I use cool tool pro to monitor ram, and you can tell the numbers change depending on which mode you select. Also, I use an app called memory locker to lock some apps (like the launcher) from being kicked out of memory.

Ram Manager is simply a GUI over the OOM manager minfree values for Android (with the actual values chosen by the dev hidden away), along with an override for the virtual memory stack size and a few other things.

There are quite a few apps that do this.

Not snake oil. Good and often quite excellent, depending on the phone.

Memory Locker is another OOM manager/helper and also controls persistence (to the amount allowed by the Android version running, once a user selectable attribute back in the Eclair days).

Also found in a number of other apps.

Also not snake oil.

If you want to control those parameters more closely and are rooted, Rom Toolbox and 3C Toolbox offer fun alternatives. (But also sneak in some snake oil so caution is indicated.)

Here's a more Spartan OOM minfree adjuster -

But the dev assistance for getting various desired mixes like Ram Manager use less descriptive names, depending on your point of view.

Those aren't mentioned by name but are endorsed by class in the above thread and the OOM minfree values and manager are covered as part of the topic.

Not snake oil, not in the same family at all. :)

I just installed it. Root required. I just uninstalled it.

I have been using File Manager HD and Clean Master. There is a lot of really troublesome looking stuff in Clean Master. The ONLY thing I used it for was to delete junk (residue form uninstalled apps).

It is now uninstalled.

You may already know this, or I may just not be understanding your post completely, but I wanted to note that there is also a custom setting for the OOM values in Ram Manager, so you can control the parameters more closely as you say. The custom setting is on the first screen below the default option, but you may need to scroll down to see it.

I did not know that, thanks! :)

I've used sdmaid for a long time, but I limit it to 3 options - database cleaner, corpse finder and system cleaner. App cache cleaning option ruins my icons for some reason (I use an xposed module named unicon to change the icons at the system level, not just for the launcher). So I don't use that one often. Also, I'm scared to use the duplicate file remover, because I don't really trust that option. Having said all that, sdmaid doesn't really clean that much.

I've used a couple apps that do a better job. One is ccleaner (i like how it can get rid of my downloaded apks, zip files from my download folder on internal sd card, remove empty folders, and old call logs and old texts). Also, there was another one I think it was called gallery doctor. That one helped me get rid of duplicate or bad pictures. These 2 remove much more than sdmaid.

I tend to listen to what the mods say because that's why they are mods, lol. So I know a lot of these "ram booster" apps are crap, but I have one quick question. I downloaded an app before I know they were bad, lol, called NQ Android Booster 2.0, and I have been able to confirm that when I select apps for it to close they stay closed!! I'll check back at random intervals and the apps aren't open again. This would suggest that the app is actually doing what it is supposed to do correcto?
