Looking for an app that will turn on screen if motion detected by camera

I've been searching Play store for an app that use motion detection by the front camera to wake up the screen on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 when someone enters the room, or is walking near the device. The "Camera Trigger (Motion detect)" app is one that looked promising, but unfortunately there is no trigger for activating the screen. I also looked at "Tasker", but there is as far as I can see currently no event available to use motion detected by camera to activate the screen.

The reason I would like this is because the Tab is used by my family to display the Google calendar for all family members and their activities. Instead of having to turn on the device it would be cool to automatically turn on the screen when someone walks in the room. I understand that using the camera for such a purpose would make the battery drain quicker, but that's ok as the Tab is alway in it's docking station with a power adapter. Also I'm not using the lock screen/there is no security as this is a Tablet used by the family.

Anyone?

Did you ever find a solution here, I'm looking for the EXACT same thing!

I think such an app would drain the battery very quickly as the ff camera would have to be powered all the time...

The closest thing that I can think of is Proximity Actions. As its name suggests, it uses the proximity sensor. Here's a link:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=novum.inceptum.proximity

Battery drain might be an issue but this is for a dedicated kitchen tablet, plugged in all of the time. My Transformer TF300T doesn't have proximity sensor on it since it's not a phone.

I have an Asus TFT300 tablet and have finally set it up to wake up when I either walk into the room or when I turn the light on in the room (kitchen). I have a galley style kitchen. The tablet sits, facing the entrance of the kitchen and the screen is off about 99% of the time. When I walk in, even in dim light, it turns on. Works 100% of the time and I love it. As long as there is movement or light changes, the screen stays on.

I use 3 apps to work toward one solution. I use phone weaver app to set things like screen brightness, how long the screen is on, and how these two settings might differ if it's 4am and me getting a drink of water versus 6pm when I'm in the kitchen cooking.
The second app I use called Motion Detector (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.motion.detector&hl=en)
The last app I had to get is a screen plugin that works with Motion Detector located: http://m.downloadatoz.com/apps/org.jastrzab.plugin.screen,881328/download.html

So I'll summarize by saying that Phone Weaver is helpful to do things to your phone/tablet which allow screen timeouts or dimming the screen, etc. and is extremely configurable. Without something like this you're screen will be either on/off by the native Android settings. At night, when I walk into the kitchen and the screen lights up, it only lights up at 30% for example, while during the day when I walk in, it is full brightness (until 10pm)

The motion detect app is a GREAT little app and if you go this route I can tell you what my settings are but I can't really explain the settings very well. I had to learn the hard way, with little documentation, how to configure it.

The last app is a plugin and once installed you just turn it on and leave it on, not settings but it needs to be on/running and works hand in hand with Motion Detect.

There is no formal documentation that I've ever found on how to do what I've accomplished. I guess that's reasonable since what I wanted was probably a weird setup... you walk into my kitchen, day or night, and my tablet screen turns on!

Oh, and my tablet is rooted, but it was rooted before I found this solution so I'm not sure that it even needs to be rooted for this solution to work. I don't think so, but not 100% sure.

So I go a cheap-o tablet that we wanted to use as a calendar. Following your method I got it setup to turn the screen on with the Calendar app on the screen whenever we passed by. I thought all was good until I stumbled across a firmware update for the tablet. I went ahead and updated from 4.2 to 4.4 on the tablet, wiping everything. I then went and setup the motion detector and screen plugin again but now I can't get it working. Motion detector registers the motion, but whenever I enable it and let it turn the screen off I can't get it to wake back up again. Even pressing the power button won't wake it up. I'm forced to do a soft reset to even get back into the tablet.

My question is, do you know of any reason why this setup would have worked for Jelly Bean but not KitKat on my tablet? I've been messing with it for about an hour and almost ready to throw the tablet across the room so any advice on what to try next would be greatly appreciated.

I don't remember the details but I do clearly remember that something in KitKat was disabled/turned off that prevented this feature from working. If I find the forum/thread, I'll post it here but there definitely was something in the newer OS that killed this feature. That's why I left mine at Jellybean but I had forgotten that.

Hello!

I really like your solution to this! I followed along with everything, and when I downloaded the plugin, everything works fine except for when I install it:( apparently turn page is no longer on the play store.

Could you please send me the .apk file for the plugin?

Thanks sooooo much!

Sorry to bug you but could you please share the 3rd app (plugin) with me? I downloaded it, and when I try to get the .apk, it says there is a server error

There is no error. As the page clearly states, the file was removed due to a DMCA takedown request because of piracy i.e. redistributing a paid app.
