"David Gilmour Live in Gdansk" was recorded with a full symphony orchestra. I let this gem neglected for years before I gave it a proper listen!
One of the best concerts ever by anyone. An absolute must see. Best version ever of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' and one of Gilmour's best performances of the insane solo on 'Comfortably Numb'.

How did Echo's A greatest hits compilation not have Careful with that Axe Eugene on it?

How did Echo's A greatest hits compilation not have Interstellar Overdrive on it? :D

James Guthrie: the audio

The also-rans:-
When trying to cram everyone's favourites onto only two discs, many heated discussions follow, and there is much juggling as songs fall by the wayside. This atmospheric music is so much a part of our lives, that everyone has their own reason why a particular song simply must not be omitted.
As a point of interest, here (in no particular order) is a list of some of the songs that were also considered for "Echoes".
1. Brain Damage
2. Eclipse
3. Interstellar Overdrive
4. Careful With That Axe, Eugene
5. Fearless
6. Breathe
7. Paranoid Eyes
8. Mother
9. Your Possible Pasts
10. Fat Old Sun
11. San Tropez
12. An edited version of Atom Heart Mother
13. If
14. Grantchester Meadows
15. Scarecrow
16. Chapter 24
17. Dogs
18. Nobody Home
19. Young Lust
20. The Gunner's Dream

Quote of the day:

On the band's lack of special stage clothing: "We are convinced that dressing for a show doesn't help the music we perform. The images and the lights help you to perceive the music. The public watches the images on the screen and doesn't have time to divert their attention to our dress..."
Nick Mason, Ciao 2001, May 1975

We had this made privately for our jukebox, since it is never published. I am sooo happy. Thin Ice is on the back side. 1385818611606.jpg

I look at it this way, whether an arse or not, it's a musician's talents that I care about. If I love a song it's because the person who wrote/sang/played it was creative enough to grab my attention. Being a creative person myself there's an ethereal quality to their music that appeals to my dark, epic, desperately romantic nature.

I never saw them in concert, but the first Floyd song I remember hearing was Comfortably Numb (which is mainly due to the fact that my first girlfriend was a burnout and she thought it was a great song to get high to). Next I heard Money, then Dark Side of the Moon, which was the song that made me stop and go, Woah...these guys are good. After that I was a fan for life.

I have many Floyd favorites, such as Wish You Were Here, Learning to Fly and Coming Back to Life.

Wish you were here is my favorite song for several reasons.

My best friend lives several timezones away, and I miss him dearly every day he's not near me.

I lost my little sister 10 years ago, and I lost a piece of my soul when she passed. I really wish I could tell her I love her one more time. I miss her so bad.

Now you made me sit here with tears in my eyes :)

In December '10 my bro (a little older) was fighting a third round of cancer. He had just finished his chemo when the ticket sales started for the very first time The Wall would be performed in the Netherlands, by Roger Waters on April 9.
After some consideration he felt comfortable enough to purchase tickets with me, my hubby and our mom to celebrate his survival. Like we did go to concerts after the first and second time. We gifted the tickets to my mom for Christmas, with our name randomly written on each ticket.
His chances turned and he passed away the end of February.
The three of us left decided to go anyway, to honour him.
We entered our area in the stadium to see all the seats were blue, except one. The one white seat was for the ticket with his name on it. Fate? :)

Just incase anyone has missed the latest news over the past week, a brand spanking new album will be released by Pink Floyd in October called The Endless River. It is said to be a largely instrumental album made from music recorded during the division bell sessions. DG, NM & RW all feature and it is said to be a beautiful swansong from RW.

The news was put out firstly by Polly Samson (DG's wife) on twitter then Durga McBroom (backing singer) and finally confirmed by Pink Floyds press office.

Man I just can't wait for this!
