Why so slow

Why is the app so slow? Occasionally when I tap someone's thread it loads right away. Sometimes it takes a while, but does load, but most of the time I am looking at the little circle go round, and round, and round and round. Keep repeating round and round until you get tired of saying it then you will get the idea. A few times tapping the refresh circle helped, but the refresh circle is not always there, and the refresh option in the menu does nothing. Is it Android 5.0 striking again?

I am back at Tapatalk now. In the AF app I ended up watch the circle go round and round again as soon as I tried to change threads. Seems odd that this app works better than their own app.

I had heard of this app that would let me connect with all the forums I might follow, but it didn't seem logical that it would work better than the forums app, so I never tried it. Now I have. Thanks again☺

Maybe it has to do with the device, and which Android flavor is running the device. I am on my phone now and the AF app is running fine, while the Tapatalk app is telling me that there is a problem connecting to the servers that (I) need to check. The assumption being that the problem is always on my end. It is amazing how when I receive that kind of message 99% of the time I can connect to another web site with no problem at all, yet when I attempt to connect to their site again, again there is a problem, and I receive the message again. Why point the finger at me when I am Joe nobody. What exactly could or would I do if they were to admit that the problem is on their end?

It could also be that the problem is not on their end, well at least not one of their creation. I never would have thought that Android would have gone the way of Google and a few others. Which is spend a lot of money, create a lot of problems, then present that the problem isn't on their end, or one of their creating. That the real problem is our antiquated equipment and that we should follow their leadership by stepping up to the plate spend some money on new equipment designed around their new system, thereby eliminating the problem.

Knowing what they do to be innovating is somewhat frustrating for the rest of us. I will admit that in the past my equipment was somewhat lagging in new technology. Yes, the rest of the world was moving forward in leaps and bounds, and I had to accept my equipments limitations, but the world is no longer moving forward in leaps and bounds. There is little that they could throw at my little Nexus 7 that it couldn't handle. I was happy and was keeping up with the rest of the world.

Then someone said, well you know we don't have to keep throwing money at bigger and better equipment. Then have to face our investors and tell them that nobody is buying it. All we have to do is tweek the operating system then say that it was necessary for innovation, they can either ride the bus or walk. The choice is theirs.

Well some of them will figure out that their devices still work just fine with kit kat and will just put kit Kat back on their device?

So, we make doing so a complicated difficult process then make sure that the first time they let their guard down the device gets updated automatically. Most of them will just fold at the get go. The rest will eventually wear down.

Well, what happens if the government steps in and tells us we have to make an honest living just like everyone else?

Really? You honestly have to ask that question?

"What? I have to give up my Food Stamps, and no more money for my unborn baby" she cries......

it burns me when I hear the folks in the register lines complaining about their sordid mess in life..... IMO, get a job or no paycheck.... make that Food Stamp a paycheck for "doing something" even if nothing more than pulling a mop in the backroom of the grocery store. at least become a sentient being worth something.... but I digress, but it goes along with the developers trying to make us feel worthless for not owning the latest and greatest flagship.....

I suffered with my Galaxy S at 1x internet speeds for 3.5 years before I saved enough back from my SSA and pension checks to finally buy something better.....

Okay, I was using a little sarcasm because the Android people turned my Nexus 7 into a Commodore 64 with their lollipop update and now seem to be refusing to turn it back into a Nexus 7.

I was also suggesting that perhaps the same update is why the AF app works perfectly okay on my phone which has not been blessed with the new update. For which I would like to sincerely say, thank you Verizon for not letting them screw up my smart phone by also turning it into a Commodore 64 with their new update.

The rest of the world would not be so accepting of my Nexus 7 suddenly developing Alzheimer's if the same thing had happened to their smart phones.

Back to the point and topic I was suggesting that perhaps some apps written for 4.4 or earlier may not do so well on lollipop, and those web site and app owners might find themselves left behind. There is the fact that Tapatalk seems to work great on lollipop, so for AF it's Tapatalk to the rescue.

Anyway it just seemed coincidental that an older app works well with my older phone, but has trouble working at all on my new tablet. While the newer app keeps telling my older phone that the problem connecting to the servers is on my end.

I seem to have managed to get my Nexus 7 back. This time after the factory reset I told it to use my RCA 7 settings. Now the Nexus is working fine. I could guess as to why it is now working, but I an not sure that there would be a point to it. I am assuming it is because both devices are similar and the saved RCA settings are set for 5.0

Thanks for not minding while I blew off some steam.

If you want to see how much the original Google version can be mangled, go look at someone's Verizon phone :thinking:

Not sure what you mean. I have a Verizon phone it is running 4.4.2

I checked for an update and the response is that I have the latest.

It appears that they don't plan to force feed me lollipop for the moment, but I will be eligible too upgrade my phone the end of June. At that time they may view mangling my phone as incentive for me to update and renew the contract.

They can go there if they want to. . :)

Should have specifically said "Look at a Verizon Lollipop" phone....

My VZW phone is still on 4.4.4 and I am hoping it can stay that way.
I remember 4.4.2 as being a good solid OS on my Galaxy S5, it only had 1 hiccup which bothered me a lot and that was it would drop Bluetooth connections in one direction. I would quit hearing people, but they would hear me asking "you still there?"

always the same way, I loose the audio, but they don't when using Bluetooth.

4.4.4 was supposed to have fixed that, and it is better, but not perfect.
I use a Blue Parrott Bluetooth trucker's headset the B250-xt model...
I have hours long conversations with a friend of mine while he is trucking down the highways at all hours of the night.
