SD hack for storage expansion

Yes this is much better than link2sd
I am currently running xperion ROM with the hack, however, I noticed the phone is a bit slower than with the previously link2sd method. I reflashed the ROM, formatted the SD card via settings, then partitioned the card via TWRP and flashed the hack. It is nice to see the total internal memory go up though.

i just did that and seems like my sd cad is still partitioned still have 7gb internal.......Actually it looks like thats not doing anything when i erase data everything is still on the sd card

well i have an issue yes again. when i goto cwm recovery and install data copy zip it just freezes at mounting external partition. been 50 minutes and no change

When I run into issues with the SD cards that don't seem to get solved by regular methods, I use this free tool. It works 100% of the time, unless your card is physically damaged.

I had same issues before so i ended up using Twrp recovery it works flawless.
I tried to do twrp and all i got was the loading screen teamwin. I think it worked the first time i tried it but i was in a rush to get to work and i exited out early by mistake. Ever since then it freezes on the loading screen. I tried to delete it and start again. Doesn't work. Don't know if maybe something is still loaded that needs deleting but when I try it just freezes up when i go to recovery

Is this a better alternative to Link2SD? I have been using it for a while, but perhaps this is faster/"more better"?
I am not going to claim my hack is better than any other hack/mod. I have no experience with Link2SD. My understanding is that Link2SD links parts (subfolders) of the /data folder to the SD card, while my hack hides the internal /data and uses the SD card in its place.

The advantage of Link2SD is that you don't need a fast (in terms of random access performance) SD card to get expanded storage. The drawback, from what I've read on forums, is sometimes you'd still get insufficient space because internal storage is still being used. The other potential issue is that when your SD becomes unavailable for some reason, apps and data on the SD become inaccessible. If inaccessible apps/data are required during booting, you might run into problems.

On the other hand, the advantage of JVene's original idea and my implementation is that we use the SD for the entire /data partition. So all the files/apps/data/settings are stored on the SD. Since the internal /data is left intact and independent, if the hack stops working for some reason (e.g. bad SD), my implementation should revert to using the internal storage. This way, at least you'd still have a working phone. Of course, you can imagine the drawbacks of this approach (like security) as well. And because the hack makes Android use the SD to store most user data, the SD card needs to be fast enough in random access (lots of reading/saving small files).

Hope this helps you make an informed decision.

Did you uninstall/disable the hack first? Android's built-in "erase SD" should repartition/reformat the SD card if it can unmount all partitions on the SD. A partition in use cannot be safely unmounted. The other option is to partition/format in TWRP. Although I'd still recommend doing Android's "erase SD" even after formatting in TWRP because, as I remember, TWRP's partitioner/formatter doesn't do partition alignment.

Have you been able to make a full backup in CWM recovery? How long does that take?

If the partition fails to mount, it should show a message and abort. The steps after mounting external partition are deleting existing files and then copying from internal storage. There should be a message before each action is taken. Since you seem to have done the steps correctly, my next suspicion is there's a problem with your card. If saving a backup takes just as long, then that's a sign the card is having performance issues. If you want to make sure, you can try to verify your SanDisk is genuine with SD Insight and/or check its random I/O performance with a benchmark.

If the problem is not with the card and if you want to find the issue, then perhaps we need to troubleshoot step-by-step with ADB. It's really supposed to be relatively straightforward once you get a custom recovery working.

The best things you can do is factory reset within the rom settings then try to flash twrp with the twrp.apk... I knw that the las twrp by hroark does not work properly... I knw GM has one that works good after that reformat ur sd with the with the properties sd partion tools from ur pc make sure u make partitions as primary not logical cus it would not work. Like WarrantyVoider said if u use twrp for partition it will noy aligned blocks correctly.

You are trying to 1) remove the hack and 2) repartition the SD card as one fat32 partition, yes?

Does anyone know how i can format my sd back to fat32 im trying to get rid of the hack and got aparted but for some reason it doesnt load ?

1) To uninstall the hack, flash -uninstall.zip in recovery. 2) Then once you're back in the Android system, save whatever you want on the SD (photos, backups, etc.) to a computer or the cloud. Unmount/safely remove the phone from the computer if you are using it to save files. Once you make sure nothing is using the SD and nothing relevant is on it, do "erase SD" to repartition and reformat the card to one fat32 partition. Then copy whatever you want back to the card.

Alternatively, you can put the SD in a card reader and use a computer to delete the ext4 partition. The software you use should have the ability to resize the fat32 partition to take up the empty space. AParted might be able to do that directly on the phone, but you should uninstall the hack first to make sure the SD is free to be modified. I have no experience with AParted so I can't help you there.

It's also possible to delete ext4 and resize fat32 manually in recovery. But I don't suppose you'd prefer that.

Oh well. F6 is a good, capable device. 2100 MHz band (for international 3G), LTE, dual-band 802.11, Bluetooth 4.0, etc. All for a reasonable price. But like most if not all technology items, something better will come along.

Good luck to you.

Yes I know. I did not misunderstand you. I was not suggesting you replace an F6 with an F6. ;) My comment just reflects my musing that I like the F6 for what it is and has, but I understand you want something better to suit your needs.

Hopefully the others can give you some suggestions. Or you may want to try asking in a general forum/thread to get more responses. Good luck.

when i go to TWRP to reboot recovery the screen resets to the TEAMWIN start screen then doesnt go anywhere else. any ideas?

TWRP freezes while loading if the SD's partitions were created incorrectly. Partition the SD using Minitool Partition Wizard. Make sure the partitions are exactly like the following:

Partition 1 = FAT32 Primary
Partition 2 = ext4 Primary

I've had a plan to release a zip that would create the additional ext4 partition directly in recovery to help make the process simpler and hopefully less troublesome for new users. Unfortunately, I got sidetracked by other projects before I finished testing. Thanks for reminding me.
