How to bypass "tethering block" on Three network?

Actually it isn't the one plan... as that hasn't been available to new customers for some time?

do you have a link to anywhere that its says all unlimited data contracts are going to be cancelled by three?

'The One Plan' was the ONLY plan which officially supported unlimited tethering there was no other plan.

My apologies I thought that you mentioned "Unlimited Tethering Allowance" but infact it was another forum.

It's worth noting to you as the abolishment of The One Plan if you want one closest to it....

http://www.idmobile.co.uk/shop/plans/sim-only

  • 2000 minutes
  • 5000 texts
  • Unlimited data
iD mobile uses the Three UK network as a MVNO.

I'm yet to test it if it actually works with tethering due to one of newest 'Unlimited' tariff from a new operator haven't investigated the tethering detection methods used but I would assume it would be almost the same as Three.

Also GlobalGig....

Here's a tip... Request a sim from them and force it to use Orange's APN ;) and see what happens. (That will be your first step to using unlimited data without ever topping up) - Tested on a sim which was 6 months old.

They specifically prohibit tethering in the T&C of all plans, so it's definitely a case of 'proceed at your own risk'.

That, otoh, sounds like theft. GlobalGig are partnered with Three, so routing traffic via another network that you've neither paid for nor have permission to access is very probably illegal.

Cool I hadn't heard of that company cheers mate.
Seems like (unless you use your hack) though it's 20qid for unlimited data (though you do get a lot more minutes) whereas it's still 15 for unlimited data on three? (with free tethering to another mobile device)

It's strange how they say 'do not' and then explain if you do... you're likely to use your allowance very quickly.

iD Mobile terms say ;-

"Please note that we do not allow tethering on any of our current plans. If you do use this service it is likely to use up large amounts of your data allowance very quickly, and you will be liable to pay any charge that may occur if you go over your allowance. Please check for updates on our website as this may change in the future."

You're aloud to use the Orange APN on it anyways and it's hardly another network as it's still part of MBNL and GlobalGig gives you 100MB free data per month for those who don't use a excessive amount of data.

https://www.globalgig.com/price-table

You can get 100MB for a '3 Month Trail' but then again you can keep requesting sim cards and re-do it every '3 months'.

We're unsure how long that's going to last... Three are totally aware that people are using the 'All in one 15' for tethering use and they know people get away with tethering on that plan. Last I heard it wasn't at the highest priority to sort that out so it looks like the users who are doing that are in a 'Enjoy it while you can' situation. There's been talks of the abolishment of the 'All-in-one 15' in the near future and it's not expected to stick around for too long.

You're basically paying £5 for a extra 1700 minutes realistically, which isn't that bad.

According to a forum - A guy at a 3Store told a customer that the 'All-in-one 15' won't be around for too much longer.

After all what provider offers unlimited data with 4G for £15.00 a month on PAYG? If they'll change the tariffs like they've done previously with WePay, 3Pay etc.. And make a totally new PAYG tariff. They could completely abolish it but through customers anger through the loss of Unlimited Tethering it's unlikely they will get rid of the 'All in one 15' for existing customers but maybe not let 'New Customers' gain access to that tariff. (Exactly what they've done before).

"with free tethering to another mobile device" - You're not aloud to tether on PAYG.

Right I wasn't sure if we were "allowed" but I have for a couple of years :thumbsupdroid: (although I recently dropped a pint glass on my tablet completely destroying it lol so I'm no longer doing that)
Man I really hope they don't drop the unlimited for 15 add on coz I'm using around 50gb a month (I know, selfish...).
Don't know where I'll go to if they drop that.. Maybe back to giffgaff?

Aye! people still do it to this day and I thought you would of been tethering to a computer or a laptop rather than a tablet, and well RIP tablet.

Well you're paying for the data at the end of the day... So use as much as you want. As long as you're not connected to my mast it's all good ;)

I personally would avoid GiffGaff .... There was talks that after a certain GB usage which appeared to be '11GB' users was getting cut off and not aloud to buy another unlimited goodybag again. The ASA let them get away with that because all they're doing is saying we don't want you on our network.... using all this data. So they just deny you service to the network which they are aloud to do. I'll reference links below on this topic ;-

http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Contribute/A-warning-about-your-data-usage/td-p/14595373

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2015012

With this response it would appear they're pretty serious about it.

"If we keep seeing a similar pattern of mobile internet usage activity on your account, then in order to protect the experience for the majority of members, this will result in you being unable to re-purchase an unlimited data goodybag, so please consider this email as a warning."

Lol mate :D
Aye I remember when I was with gg a few years ago they would cut you off until you appealed (and waited days for them to reconnect you) when you got like 15~20 GB data use.
I'd actually forgot bout that man :(
"the network run by you " aye right!
(although i used to basically get my service for more than free by just posting in their help forums and getting payback points)

How easy is it to transfer your phone number every 3months mate?
And what does "excessive" mean?

Switching your number is easy it's a case of getting a PAC code and telling your provider they can usually get it changed the next day or two.

15 ~ 20GB isn't "Unlimited" though that's the problem. I've seen users use 600-800GB on Three - why? because they can.... I've personally managed to hit the '1000GB' cap on the PAYG service hence why I know it cuts you off from using the data. (Until you get another add-on at least). I'm guessing the data fields are set to '1000GB' exactly.

I used to use GiffGaff for the 3 months of free Giffgaff-Giffgaff calls and texts per top-up as quite a lot of my family used to also be on Giffgaff. Now they are on EE, Virgin and Three which isn't a problem with unlimited calls, texts and data.

Yeah same ... I used to earn around £100 per 3 months but I got bored helping the people that was asking silly questions so I got a PAC code and moved.

Please be advised that if you upgrade to Lollipop 5.1, you will lose tethering altogether!!!! (it's happened to me...my handset is a Moto G 4 G.)

If you apply the tethering_dun_required 0 fix, this will not work on 5.1.
If you do not want to lose tethering, do not upgrade to 5.1.

Some people are saying that Lollipop 5.0, allows you to tether. (I can't say for sure, as I haven't tried this)

I made a mistake by updating to 5.1, assuming that all will work OK, if only I can downgrade to kitkat!?

I'm on 5.0.2 and still happily tethering mate (on OnePlus One)
I'd be devastated if I lost my tethering and three would be in the bin ;)
So I'll be dingying 5.1 I think if this is true.
Just bought a Google tv box and rely on my tethering as can't afford broadband

psionandy....how have you got your tethering to work ? (did it just work out of the box, or did you root then make changes ??)

I've tried the adb shell commands, not worked, I get a text message from Three warning be about Tethering....
I've also wiped the cache, tried agian, didn't work.
I'm going to hard reset my phone and try and see what the outcome is, but it's not looking hopeful!

If anyone has any ideas on this I wold appreciate it...(I did some research and found that some people are experiencing the same issue as me with 5.1 ....

If you're interested, I've now managed to get tethering to work on my Moto G 4GB XT1309.

I did try to enable mobile hotspot, however, I kept getting a "text alert" from Three warning me about Personal Hotspots, each time I connected a device.

I managed to root the handset, and then made some changes as suggested, rebooted the phone and enabled mobile hotspot. (Bang...Sweet...Now tethering with Three and also ID Network....My netbook/apple devices/other tablets are working!!! (happy days!!!)
