Help E-ceros 9.7" talbet ( revolution ) Google playbook App problem

Hi gurus and friends ( i'm grovelling for some help :) )
Among other devices I have a E-ceros 9.7" tablet, actually wifes machine
Sue loves reading and has bought a lot of books from G play store
All was fine until Google updated their play books app on the 16/July 2015
since then no access to any of the books she has paid for except the first few pages.
You can guess googles customer service answer, nothing to do with us, its your fault as a customer
as we have'nt heard of E-Ceros. Go away we wont help.
As E-ceros is an OEM manufacturer I'm pretty sure what some of comes off the end of the production line gets re-badged, but at the moment I haven't found who else E-ceros builds for.

Has anyone else had problems with the PlayBooks app since it was upgraded on 16/7/2015
Can anyone help with the required info ???
I suspect the developers of the app has optimised for small screen devices, ignoring the tabley market use.

A bit of a David and Golieth situation, I like a few sharp stones to put in the sling, if you understand the analogy.

Many thanks
Richard

I don't think that E-ceros are even a manufacturer, they're a Hong Kong based importer exporter. The actual OEM, the Chinese manufacturer is unknown I think. You could try contacting them, see if they can help.

Have you tried uninstalling the Google Play Books app updates?

As it apparently broke after July 16th update, you can download and try previous versions of Play Books here.

APKMirror is safe. :thumbsupdroid:

No doubt if you had a Samsung Tab or something, Google would probably be more helpful.

Hi Mike
I've contacted E-ceros requesting the licence number for google play ythey supply installed, I'm waiting for an answer.
They claim to to be an OEM manufacturer, with the two distribution outlets of Chinavision in Hong Kong and GeekShop thru Amazon.
Thats what the web site says.
I wonder perhaps if you had time you maybe able to find out as your sig block says you are in China, yes I'm aware that its a huge country, but perhaps you may have the language advantage.
Thanks for the APK mirror link, the other alternative maybe to read them using Chrome.
I'm really appalled by the attitude of Google, they are worse than microsoft could ever be when it comes to customer support

Thanks
Richard

Hi Richard. "G8JVM" that has to be a UK radio amateur callsign. I'm "G0MEM" lapsed, because it's almost impossible for a foreigner to be a ham in China, and no reciprocal licensing arrangements.

Yeh, that's what the website says, but I have other ideas. One the fact they're in Hong Kong and not mainland PRC. The tablet itself was very likely manufactured in Shenzhen or nearby Dongguan, so either they do have a factory there, or more likely they're made by another OEM unknown. Also E-Ceros main contact is a mobile number, not a land-line. HK phone numbers beginning with "8" are mobile. There's literally hundreds of companies claiming to be OEM manufactures on B2B like made-in-china.com, but they're not, they're just trading or impex companies. Often just one person, sometimes just a student, working from home or a cheap hotel/brothel office. I've seen them.

Here's the thing, it's the manufacturers who are responsible for providing support for the hardware and the Android OS they install, and frequently customize. Google only makes Android and gives it to the OEMs. So of course if you've got something that's flaky, often cheapo, Google won't help you, it's down to the OEM or whomever sold it to you. Google provides support for their own branded Nexus devices, because they supply and update the Android OS on them, even though it might have been made by Motorola, HTC or Samsung.

If a Google app is broken, if it's a Samsung Tab or something, they might know something about it, maybe a documented problem. But if it's something that nobody has ever heard of, especially if Android has been customized, you don't know anything about it, and neither does Google.

Microsoft only makes Windows, but if you have a problem with it on a pre-installed machine, you have to go to Lenovo or Samsung or Dell, or whomever made your PC or laptop. Because they're responsible for supporting the hardware and the OS, and applications they install.

Hi Mike
Yup you spotted the csallsign, pity about no reciprocal agreements.
All noted on that being mobile number in HK. probably find the only way to find who made it would be to open it and have a gook look at the pcb for clues.
Luckily there doesn't seem to be any hardware problems, and not all built in PRC is poor quality and it will kep the xyl happy for a while, for someone who wouldn't go near a computer , she is now inseperable from it.

Thanks for the help

Hi Mike and others
something that has occurred to me which may point to the actual manufacturer.
One of the factory installed unique numbers are MAC address and if its a phone its IMEI number
The Mac address is cc:d2:9b:35:98:36
I believe the fist 6 hex digits are manufacture coding
the serial number may give you a clue Q4E9KUOULO, I wonder if KUOULO is a customer ID
I doubt if the model number of CT9716 will yeild anything..

Now just curious who really built it :)

Can certainly look up the mac address, http://standards.ieee.org/develop/regauth/oui/public.html

and the first "cc-d2-9b" leads to a...
Shenzhen Bopengfa Elec & Technology Co. ,Ltd
Bldg56A, 3/F, Baotian Rd3, Xixiang Town
Baoan District
Shenzhen Guangdong 518000
CHINA

And that's all there is in English. Xixiang Town, Baoan District is hundreds or even thousands of electronics factories that goes on for miles and miles.

Want any more, have to search their name in Chinese using Baidu. :thumbsupdroid:
"深圳市博鹏发电子科技有限公司"

"KUOULO" doesn't show anything much useful at all, and CT9716, always shows your E-ceros or Ceros tablet, that has a Rockchip SoC.

EDIT:

Going a bit deeper into this because I'm often curious about these things. :)
They're probably is NOT the tablet's OEM.
http://en.rflink.cc/

Their main products are RF and wireless tech, i.e. they only made your tablet's WiFi module. So there's another OEM somewhere, very likely in Baoan District. However these off-brand and no-name tablets and phones can be made just about anywhere,

I've even seen groups of women assembling cheapo Android phones in a shopping mall stockroom. And the companies for the boards, screens, modules, are listed in a printed newspaper called "Shenzhen Electronic Times". With parts often delivered by barrows, tricycles and handcarts. Large OEMs like Foxconn or Pegatron don't operate like that of course.

All very interesting Mike,
the quality of this tablet does look or feel too bad, Its still working well after a year of use, which the bottom end of the market normally doesn't, the only branding on it is printing on the rear panel and software branding on the boot splash.
As an engineer I'd love to have a look around whats in the Baoan District, can't complain too much as the way that type of manufacture has pushed down prices has benefitted everyone.
For Ham use I'd like to find a tablet , cheap of of course, with stereo line in and out that would run linux so that it could be used for weak signal data modes, plenty of processing umph as well, the problem with that is not all the hardware has open source drivers.
Its a pity the cost of android dev software can be expensive, else some of the linux s/w I use could be ported.
Buts thats another matter.
Cheers
Richard
