App FEEDBACK WANTED - A Sports Coaching App That Uses the Motion Sensors

Hey All,

I've posted before in this forum previously about a basketball coach for wear. I'm here again with an update!

tl;dr smartwatches allow you to interact physically so I built an app that takes advantage of that. We're working with an NBA player. We'd like some feedback from the community Check it out: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/swish-the-basketball-coach-for-smartwatches/x/11129631#/story

Hi everyone,

My name is Marissa. I'm the founder of Onyx Motion. I'm looking for some feedback on a product I've been working on for about a year and a half now. I built our app Swish to give people tips in real-time using the data from a smartwatch for 2 reasons:

I think current smartwatch apps don't take full advantage of the wearable format.
What can smartphones not do? Track your movement in a sophisticated way. To be able to interact physically with your technology is a field I'm interested in exploring.

Getting coaching for recreation is a crappy process.
If I just want to play and enjoy myself, there are so many barriers to getting a coach. It's too expensive. I don't want to buy a dedicated device. How do I know which device or coach will suit my needs? I want to learn and get better, because that's fun to me. But I'm not looking to make the Olympics. Hell, I don't even want to make a team. I just want to not embarrass myself in front of my friends.

So I built a smartwatch app that does 3 things:

Real-time Tips After practice is too late. I never carry my phone out to the court or hold it while I'm swinging a raquet.

Customized Tips Based on your data, the watch tells you interesting things. Your elbow is too far out, your arc angle is low. Then it watches to see if the tip it gave improved you. In this way, we can slowly tweak and look for subtle things like: Do you like data in your tips? Do you like tough love?
A universal platform We built for Android and Apple because our hunch is that smartwatches will be like smartphones. They'll do a lot. And your six year old cousin will have one. Sure, they're not universally affordable. But you're a lot more likely to have one than to be able to invest 60-100$ in a dedicated fitness device.

It's early for a product like ours, but I'm excited about it. I think this app has possibilities not just for basketball and sports, but any kind of physical learning. I'd really like to know if people who own a smartwatch would be interested in a product like ours or how we can make it better.

++We're working with 11 year NBA veteran Ben Gordon! We're a 3 person startup and he flew to Toronto to film our video with our friends on a random court in Toronto. Feel free to AMA about that.
