Any Time is Grillin Time

I have a couple of twenties here at the house for the Jen-Air. I keep four at the cabin. The cabin has a propane range and heat stove so I also have a hundred pounder plumbed to it. There is an ancient two hundred pound bottle that I can't get anyone to refill out there as well. One never has too many propane options.

There was a change in plans. I ended up grilling steaks and shrimp. I sauteed some sliced mushrooms to top the steaks. And I grilled some cobletts... wrapped in foil with butter and a bit of salt. The wife had made some zucchini bread and someone brought a couple of cheese cakes. We made out great... ate too much and told many lies.

This morning I cooked up some sausage, onions, shredded potatoes, and eggs. We rolled that up in some grilled tortillas with some mild cheddar and hot salsa. If they left the ranch hungry it was their fault.

I have some potatoes baking on the grill. I have my rib eyes marinating. I'll toss them on the fire in a few minutes. A fresh tossed salad will complete the meal. Man it all looks good.

Next weekend I'm having a "celebration of life" party for friends and family of my oldest daughter who suddenly passed away a month ago. Her funeral was in Az so all of the local folks were out of the loop.
It's not a service.. but a party. I'm smoking around 35-40 pounds of pork butts for the occasion. I'm spicing up some chicken to be slow cooked in the crock pot for pulled chicken. Wieners for the kids. Potato salad, corn salsa, baked beans, slaw, and chips will compliment the meats. It should be quite the cook off.

I appreciate the kind words. I hope this party will help some. We've all been in a circle pattern since her death. Just can't seem to get back into anything. I'm sure we'll survive... letting go is tough stuff.

I guess I'm smoking half the butts and my son is smoking half on his smoker. Hmmm.... who's will be the best? lol

Very tough indeed.
A loss such as this is difficult at best,my thoughts are w/you & your loved ones.
FWIW,I think your celebration of life gathering is a great idea,as your daughter will be there in spirit.

Well... it's Friday night.. getting close to Saturday morning. I have my baked beans cooking on the smoker. Love that smoke in my beans.... along with some roasted jalapenos, onion, bell pepper, brown sugar, honey, and a bit or garlic. My baked beans should be done in an hour or so. I have my pork butts all spiced up and will put them on the smoker around two AM. I'll let them smoke up for three hours as I spray them with apple juice. Five AM I'll pan them up, turn up the heat to around 250 f and let them slow cook for six or seven hours. Pasta salad is made and ready to roll. Slaw is prepared. Cooked my chicken early this evening and pulled it. Everything is on schedule to start partying down around 2 PM tomorrow. Ten pounds of hot links to grill at the party.... everyone loves to smell something cooking. :)
I hope everyone shows up hungry!

Grilled banana. Cut open and filled with dark chocolate, marshmallows, tia maria and whipped cream. Would that be good?

That looks yummy Kaat. Too sweet for words but yummy.. the way we like it. :)

The party went well. It was a lot of work and I'm drained. Worth every bit of the effort though. Saw some great friends.. shared some great memories and made some new ones. As usual, there was too much food but I sure would hate to have too little. Don't tell my son... but my pulled pork was more popular than his. :p His was good though...

I figured they were regular size brats. I'm guessing you don't put those on a bun lol.

Hey that indoor smoker is interesting enough. I'd like to play with that.
It's pretty cool.
The one thing/urge you need to avoid is putting in too many wood chips, less is more here.(Learned this 1st hand):paperbagdroid:
Gotta keep in mind the proportions, not to mention the pressure factor.
Otherwise, the food will lose all its flavor & just taste like smoke.
It's perfect for indoors,as long as you have proper ventilation that actually vents via roof stack.
My office @ work had a smoky aroma for a month after cooking some brats.......:D

Hot and humid already this morning and supposed to get more hot and humid this afternoon. Plan to grill up some t-bones for the Packer game.
I'm pumped for the game. I hope I'm not left deflated by not seeing 1st stringers. I want at least the first series for both teams to be starters. These are two of the best teams and two of the best quarterbacks. I hope neither comes out flat. As is usual, the press is overinflating the importance of the game and what the play results will mean. I don't expect to be able to gauge what the teams will ultimately look like once rosters are finalized.

*/ any unintentional snark is not directed at the Packers or any of their fans, present members included.;)
