Help Netflix controls disappear

I stream Netflix on my Galaxy S4 to a Chromecast. It's always worked fine until about a week ago. Now after starting a show or movie, after about 10 minutes when I wake my phone back up to control Netflix the control panel that is typically at the bottom of the screen has disappeared completely. So has the ability to pause from the Lock screen, that has gone too. The show/movie continues to stream, and the only way I can get the controls back is to disconnect from the Chromecast and then reconnect which is obviously a little annoying.

I'm pretty sure it's Netflix as other streaming apps still work fine. I'm also not sure if there was a Netflix update recently, but currently I'm on v3.14.1 build 5179. I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling the app, and have cleared the cache. Not sure what else to do. Any thoughts?

I'm on the same revision/build, no problems.

If clearing cache and data don't work, can't hurt to clear the main cache on your SGS4 from recovery, see if that helps. (Assuming that you meant you've just cleared the app cache so far.)

Clearing the app cache and data did solve the problem very briefly, for maybe an hour I had access to the controls via the lock screen and the app itself, then the problem resurfaced. I've cleared the system cache using Clean Master, but have yet to test it. I'll report back :) Thanks for help so far.

OK, you didn't clear the system cache using Clean Master.

It's not possible without a root-specific app, and even then, you probably don't want to do it that way, you want to clear it through recovery.

Clean Master is complete snake oil and it lies about what it's doing. Uninstall it yesterday, clear cache from recovery, clear Netflix cache and data from your app manager.

Don't replace Clean Master with anything else and uninstall all similar apps for battery boosting and cleaning.

There's more than a small chance that that's the source of the trouble.

Understood. Are there any potential side effects to clearing the system cache this way? Or any backing up I would need to do?

Constantly "cleaning ram" that's probably what's stopping you Netflix app and leaves it playing on your Chromecast, leaving you with no controls to pause, play, etc.

What would constantly be cleaning ram? I have Clean Master and Battery Guru both installed, is it possible that either of these is doing that? It's odd because I've been using BC since day one and two years later this is the first time Netflix has acted up.
