Windows 10, Yay or Nay?

Got the ISO, burned a disk, installed as dual boot. That worked three times but then froze on boot. Removed that and upgraded the normal way, from within Win7. It was all pretty quick and painless... still activated.

But so far, I don't see the point. It isn't faster, it uses more ram, it doesn't act better from any perspective. I may restore my most recent Win7 backup... at least I can get off the edge of my seat now.

Yeah you need a new product key, which you only get given during an upgrade.

Actually, turns out this is wrong. When you do the upgrade, you get given a generic windows 10 key, and instead your windows 10 licence is tied to your unqiue hardware ID. Therefore it remains to be seen how you can transfer your licence to a new computer.

i been using windows 10 since the first preview build was released. in the last 6 months my pc froze 3 times. i also had a handful of BSOD, mainly due to using unsigned drivers for wifi devices. any game i've downloaded from torrents, failed to install or failed to run, mainly directx runtime error. im not really a modern gamer. i still play red alert2 and aoe2, its the only games i eve liked. and i couldnt get those games to run on windows 10 preview builds. other then the said problems. Windows 10 runs great on my old dell inspirion AMD 2.2ghz 2gb ram. Windows 10 is pretty stable as far as the way i use it. on my old dell i use it as a plex server to stream to my roku box. windows 10 is up and runny for weeks without no problem.

Updated 2 days ago and I love it :)
Download and installation was flawless.

The entire process was about one and half hours long.

With everyone having Windows 7-8.1 being available to upgrade today, are you going to after the previews? Personally I will be (Once I get this damned gwx.exe to start correctly!) What about you? Any thoughts on it?
Hp hasn't upgraded the Intel graphics driver for my envy X2 so I cannot upgrade to Windows 10.

At first I was ticked off. Then I realized I can buy a new laptop for like $350 and if I wait until clack Friday I can probably pick one up for $200

Or maybe it's time to go chromebook. [emoji2]

Experienced some pain due to dual boot config with linux but eventually worked through that. I never once logged onto a win8 machine so its interesting to see the changes since win7. I probably won't use it much but its there if I ever want it I guess. :)
Take a Win 8 phone and imagine that as a computer. Identical. To. That.

As for "Windows 10, Yay or Nay," I vote nay. I was, for some reason, looking forward to it, so was heavily disappointed when I finally got to try it. Or perhaps I was expecting too much. Either way, to me, it just seemed like a 'pig' called Win7 with earrings on it called Win10.

Maybe I'll try it again all by itself, not as an upgrade, but probably not, because I ain't paying a hundred ten bucks for it.

Meanwhile, Win7 is just fine.

DONT UPGRADE IF YOU HAVE AN ATHEROS WIFI MODULE!!!

Sorry for that crazy out burst... :D

I got a athwnx.sys ERROR and got the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH so if you have a specific Atheros WiFi / Bluetooth module / card ...then be seriously advised when updating or upgrading!!!

I have a Toshiba c660 satellite and it has got the above mentioned WiFi module and when I updated WHAM

WHAM WHAM WHAM

Now it looks like I am going to have to REINSTALL AND YES I DAMN ANGRY ABOUT IT!!!

Almost furious!

They should NEVER say it is okay to update if you DONT have a good driver or compatible driver...

Google "athwbx.sys" and you will see the poop fest.

Don't di what I do and then fight the urge and temptation to SMASH your pc...

its free where u get 110 lol
Free as an upgrade from a legitimate Windows 7/8 install. $110 or so when purchased as a standalone installation.

And while pirated versions may update, they are not legitimately licensed versions of Windows 10. Using them is still illegal.
