Help "Message not sent" error, driving me crazy.

Also had been getting the annoying "message not sent" error, not connected to an actual unsent text. Tried a bunch of stuff that you'd think would work to no avail. This is what finally did it: I switched my phone to airplane mode, swiped away the error message, then turned airplane mode off. Almost an hour and so far no new error messages have appeared!

I found this on Motorola Forums and it worked for me without deleting any contacts.
Good Luck!

"The real problem appears to be that the default "Text Messaging" app does not show you a failed message queue, but will continually try to resend them. The good news is that Handcent shows you this queue and allows you to delete these messages. You do not need to continue to use Handcent, just use it to delete undelivered messages. Make sure to turn off Handcent's notifications if you plan to keep it installed as a deletion utility.
Solution:
1. Install Handcent SMS from Android Marketplace
2. Launch Handcent SMS
3. Press Menu Button >> More + >> Undelivered messages
4. Here you can delete undelivered conversations and end your "messages not sent" woes!"

tried this but there was no "more" option or undelivered text option in the menu?
any ides its driving me crazy

"The new Handcent App update appears to have removed that option! The above fix worked for me a couple months ago, but then I tried it today when I got the old heinous error back, and the menu options have changed.[/QUOTE]"
Just install Handcent, make it your default sms app, then disable original sms app(mine was messaging). Use Handcent to delete all Undelivered messages. Then I went to Messaging>Settings>SMS Enabled> touch to change your default SMS app and set that as the default SMS app and then uninstalled Handcent. Problem has not recurred.

For me, just switching to another sms app(Handcent) and making that the default sms app and using it to delete all Undelivered threads, and then switching back to Messaging as the default sms app( touch Messaging>Settings> SMS Enabled>touch to change your default SMS app)(I also uninstalled Handcent); fixed the problem. ymmv.

I so totally found the solution. It isn't from the actual messaging, it's because at some point Google Speck or Voice which ever it's called came up and someone talked and didn't sent it.
In order to fix the problem you need to click on message icon and at the bottom you will see 3 dots you will have to delete all threads however to get it to go away. I suggest that if you want to keep your messages get SMS Backup+ from the play store. It's Jan Mirkel or something like that. I have had it for years and it's free !!

This happens on older phones when Android auto updates and its a pita. However, I did find a solution that works. That is also a pita.
  • Install handcent sms from play store
  • Open and and allow it to be your default msg app
  • Settings, delivery report, delete unsent msgs
  • Close app
  • Go to phone settings and change your default messaging app back to original
Keep the handcent app. You may need it when the next Android update does it again.

The handcent app workaround does work; but, I have privacy/trust issues with handcent..

When you clear the "Messages not sent' from the notification window, it comes back whenever you launch "Messaging".

Install Google's "Messenger" app and make it the default... this new Google app ignores those message in the screwed up queue...

I went to txt someone today, and for what ever reason, the message failed to send, and I received the "Message not sent" notification. I tried again, and the message was sent. Now every time I send, or receive a message that notification pops up. "Message not sent - Select to review the message and try again" and when I open the error message, it triggers another to appear. "Undelivered message - Unable to Deliver this message" even though all the txts have been confirmed to go through. This is driving me crazy, any one have any thoughts? It even gives me the message when I open an old txt that I have already read.

Try this.
Open message and go to settings and check the following.
In text (sms) messaged

Try doing this.

Go to Messaging then settings and check the following.

Text (SMS) messages

1. Delivery reports

Request a delivery report for each message you send.

2. Multimedia (MMS) messages.

Group messages

Us MMS to send a single message when there are multiple recipients.

3. Delivery reports

Request a delivery report for each message you send.

When completed, delete all threads.

So the only way to do this is to go into the message settings and you're going to clear all data for your messages it will erase all your messages but that message. Popping up here is a picture of it

if it had an attachment that may be the issue. for me was using gosms, and saw online , need to use only the default messenger , but need to make it default. so go to android messenger(not google messenger or hangout) , add your attachment (sent as mms if large eg photo ) , send , then go back to your app that you want to use , make it default again. this is PIA if you send many attachments, in that case you may want to stick to email or other chat service

Solution suggestion: In some cases, you just finished messing around with some messaging options on your phone before this may have started... At least I did. :(

I accessed my phone's 'Message Center' and changed the then registered number to my own - thinking I'm cute-n-shit over here.... That ****ed it up. No messages going out then.

So I had to call cricket(cell service provider) to retrieve my service providers Message center' number - Yup, we ****ed up that bad...

Once connected to them, I went down these options to access this setting adjustment:
  1. Settings(gear icon)>
  2. Messages(under applications)>
  3. Text Messages>
  4. Message Center>
Entered there the recommended number(everyone reading should update this comment with there message center number, if required):
  • Cricket wireless | +19703769830
Once update with this, no restart required - #Good2Go!!!

Hope this helps troublemakers.
