QuickPic sold to Cheetah Mobile

I noticed another reviewer comment about 1-start reviews being deleted. Didn't know that the developer could do that.

I don't think we can...if so, I don't know how to...?

As far as I know, we can only "report" a comment as spam or up-vote and/or down-vote (which everyone can do, too).

I can, of course, also reply to the comment, which also sends-out an email to the person, but that's about it.

^No idea where my reviews are going then because my 4th has just disappeared :/

I wonder if they get marked as not visible if the dev marks them as spam?

If you want to test, just leave a bad review on one of my apps (LOL, the best one would be my Root Toolkit for Android app where seemingly everyone who "discovers" that my app doesn't root their device leaves a bad review) and I'll see what happens.

(lemme know if you want me to test)

Hmmm...in post #43 I predicted: "They'll give it some 'improvements' to 'enhance the user experience' which is code for we'll add a couple of little things to make you think we're good guys."

In their response on Play, they answered a bad review with: "...good experience that users expect...we will add some valuable functions for FREE."

Close enough I'm gonna say I nailed it! I'm not expecting them to say anything about other, less popular things they have planned for QuickPic.

Good to see my original post got something started. I didn't expect it to get much attention.

I stuck it on our G+ Page and I've tipped Phandroid in the hope they run with it on Monday (they take weekends off by the looks of things). The more folk we can let know about this, the better

If you're a facebooker, may wanna think again,CM has their paws in the mix on that too.
I didn't think their plans would not include getting in on that goldmine of data.
No surprise really, since they're invested in a company named NANIGANS (seriously, just add the SHE to it,we know what you're up to) ,which is tied to facebook:

On The Social Prowl

Facebook is also a cornerstone of Cheetah’s strategy, with Nanigans at the center. Cheetah plans to use the Nanigans tech and its PMD status to help its client optimize their Facebook campaigns.

Nanigans and Cheetah will work together in three ways: One, Cheetah itself will be a client of Nanigans, taking advantage of the latter’s software to grow its own user base and run retargeting and re-engagement campaigns on social channels; two, Nanigans will make Cheetah Mobile inventory available to its clients; and three, Cheetah will promote the Nanigans tech to companies in China.

Although Facebook is banned in China, many Chinese companies boast large overseas user bases, including Cheetah. Seventy percent of Cheetah’s users are located outside of China.

“To be the largest utility category app developer, you need both user acquisition and monetization,” said Nanigans CEO and founder Ric Calvillo. “And advertising is important for both sides of that coin.”

Advertising – and ad tech – is the way forward at Cheetah Mobile, said Liu.

“This is about us declaring our strong intention to become a leading mobile ad platform and backing it up with the data, product and team required to achieve such a lofty goal,” he said. “Fundamentally, we believe large direct and agency advertisers represent only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to mobile advertising’s potential.”

I've been contemplating axing Quickpic and strictly using google photos since there where everything goes anyway.

I've also tried Photos, but I keep bumping up against the folder problem. It might be old fashioned, but if an app doesn't give me direct access to the folders and instead gives me an overview of all images on my device, I'm less inclined to use it.

I also love the ability in QuickPic to show/hide folders very easily, but also very much behind the scenes.

Come to think about it, there's just too much about it that I don't want to give up.

In photos, tap on the menu hamburger (three horizontal lines) and choose device folders. I don't see a way to make that the default view, but at least it give you the folders.

.
Try some of the other gallery apps mentioned in this thread.

I know it's a pain to change, but losing certain features is better than having a Cheetah Mobile app installed on your device.

Oh, definitely. It's already gone from my tablet, and as soon as I've found a good replacement, it's also gone from my phone.

The Team Blackout Updater App has a themed version of Quickpic. I'm pretty sure it hasnt been compromised as it is exactly like the one that it replaced in my /data/app/ folder (except transparent). No funny behavior, autoruns, connections, etc. I use AFWall to block all but local connections for ity anyway. I dont see any reason to uninstall quickpic or update either because it is an awesome app. Anyone know what is the last non-sellout version was? Also you can use TibU to break playstore link as well.

WHilst this is not good news, I'm loathe to uninstall such a great app. I've turned off auto-update in the Play Store, but I'm just wondering about using cloud backup.

I use QuickPic to back up my photos to Dropbox, so can Cheetah have a snoop around in my Dropbox? I might just set up a new Dropbox and use it solely for backing up photos.

Playstore link might not stay broken. After I had major problems with Out Of Milk 5.x I downgraded to 4.3.2 and broke the market link with TiBu because I was tired of looking at the stupid upgrade in the PlayStore but a day later that stupid upgrade reared its ugly head again.
