QuickPic sold to Cheetah Mobile

WHilst this is not good news, I'm loathe to uninstall such a great app. I've turned off auto-update in the Play Store, but I'm just wondering about using cloud backup.

I use QuickPic to back up my photos to Dropbox, so can Cheetah have a snoop around in my Dropbox? I might just set up a new Dropbox and use it solely for backing up photos.
Per my test with Drive and the pre-Cheetah version posted earlier, nothing else was seeing my traffic.

You can test Dropbox with Network Connections as I did.

I haven't used QuickPic in a long time, but do remember it being really good...

So I downloaded and decompiled the latest apk version 452 and didn't see anything suspicious, but that can be easily missed. If you folks are interested I disabled the apps ability to update from the play store. I can post the modified apk if anyone is interested.

I tried using Network Connections and it showed up 4 times (one for each photo I took I presume?), all 4 connecting to Box (not Dropbox, I've no idea why I mentioned Dropbox earlier!). I didn't get any links for the Play Store or anything else, just Box. It said only QuickPic was using that IP.

Although I did get a red link in the 'RBL Abuse' section. I've had a quick look into but haven't really got a clue. Something about spamming? Does anyone more knowledgable than me know if this should be of any concern?

Box - shall we say - markets aggressively, especially to the small business community on Comcast. I have an old Box account somewhere, I'll try to configure and verify if time permits - but the red flag on the Box ip is probably due to that.

In any case, if all of your connections went only to Box, then Cheetah Mobile wasn't listening in.

Ah right, I didn't know that about Box but yeah, that sounds like the RBL thing. Thanks.

It's a good thread this. I'll be sticking with 4.5.2 for the foreseeable future. Until, maybe, another dev siezes the chance to make their app as good as QP.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge here.
I've been using Quickpic since my first Android.
I don't use the cloud feature and never have.
Are my photos safe if I'm only using onboard storage?

Pep
I guess no need to update the version I'm using again.
^ This.

As of the 4.5.2 version from June linked earlier, your data are safe.

Use that, turn off automatic updates for it in the Play Store.

We can always mod future releases as long as it remains unsullied.

^^^ +1! :)

I also do that, but have found no way to store old APK from when the app worked as it was supposed to.

I still have the old Weatherbug Elite (purchased) on the tablet - never updated it. Can't transfer it. I'm not rooting an old 4.1 Acer and the new version is only available for download. Mostly watch At Bat on it anyway.

We need an "Old Version" site for some of these if you already have the app.

I just tried Piktures Gallery Photo & Video on a Droid Turbo. For me 1/3 were upside down and if the screen was rotated 1/4 were distorted. I had fewer inversions on the Droid Maxx but resolution "issues". Apparently device-specific quirks?

I am now trying out A+ Gallery Photos & Videos and it seems to ne working. It also has an option to display by color that can be quite useful. Also display by year is nifty.
