So, does new every 2 still hold?

I have a more everything plan with 2 basic phones and 1 smartphone on it. First of all, I understand that I can't flip that plan over into the new monthly no-contract plans until each phone runs it's 2 year course, right? In that case, if I'm going along with a family plan, can I opt to continue and get subsidized phones?

Not really sure how the flipping to a new plan works if you're still on contract, you may have to ask them directly.

But, you don't have to change and, at least for now, can stay on your current plan and sign a new two year contract with a subsidized phone. How long they will allow that is the big question.

What I would suggest is doing the math on both and see where you stand. It may work out better on the new plans, even with the price of a new phone. Or not. :p

Verizon is eliminating subsidized phones... what I do is take a small amount of money each payday and put it in a special account. When a new phone comes out that I want and the money is there, I buy it outright and swap the SIM. It's an easy way to turn pizza money into the latest technology and avoid choking on the high cost of a new device every year or two.

The BIG question is this: now that they're not including the cost of the phone in the bill (spread across 24 payments), will their rates drop?

Nope. They just changed to the "T-shirt" plans. That's as good as it's going to get for new folks or if you change plans. The big 'benefit' is the $20/line instead of $40 (contract line price). So yeah, enjoy the savings!
