Help I need help with sd card

Hey guys,I'm new to using media cards. I've selected sd card as my default media storage;and the pictures it took is not showing in my gallery. I only see the photos I took in another folder. When I remove the sd card from my droid, the folder disappears. What does this mean?
Do I have to make a copy to see my photos in my camera roll?

This is my first android

I think that you need to go to settings in the Camera.
there you tell that 'app' where to store the pictures you took.

Normally two choices, "Device" meaning internal storage, or "extSDcard" meaning the card you plugged in.
Yippy and thank you. I kind of understand now. I thought it had been hidden somewhere in my phone. I realized that when the media card is removed, the photos are no longer there.

>> It is STRONGLY recommended that you do no use QuickPic ... the new owner is troublesome.

I agree. This previous thread has a lot of discussion about QuickPic. I like QuickPic but still using an older 'pre-Cheetah' version while I contemplate my options for switching to another photo management app.
