Hello, my samsung galaxy s3 wont let me sideload apps I download from the internet. When I tap to install it, it just says "There was a problem parsing the package." Now I know many people have this problem or similar problems, but their solution is to turn off and screen filtering apps. Well I dont have any, so that isnt really a solution for me. Also I have turned on Unknown sources and checked everything I know how to... Please help. Also my phone is rooted.

Oh okay sorry. Well in any case, I still have the issue of side loading apps whether they are already free or not (most of which I download are free because I like some of the apps not on the play store anymore) I am currently still backing my files up.
Understood.
But based on a little poking around here and there, I basically came up with what @Heights713 had suggested including:
You may get this Error Due to following Reasons:
There-is-a-problem-parsing-the-package.jpg

  1. The Downloaded .apk file is Currupted or not fully downloaded
  2. You might have turned off “Allow installation of apps from Unknown Sources”
  3. If the App is not Compatible with the Hardware or the Version of OS you are using

And I think you've ruled those 3 out correct?
How did you get them to work before your initial reset?

Okay well I guess I will just give you the full story. So about a month ago, my phone was rooted and everything was working completely fine, until my google play store wouldn't open. This was an issue so I downloaded Aptoide as a replacement because I tried everything to get my playstore to work but it never did. Well after a while, my playstore started working again out of the blue, but I noticed I could no longer side load apps. I figured, this has to be a problem with the root so I factory reset it. When it reset, I wasn't able to sign into my google accounts on my phone for some reason, and I also wasnt able to download any apps from Aptoide which was an issue. I reset it again, and my playstore was finally working again, but I still couldn't side load. I just gave up on trying to figure it out until it annoyed me to the point where I had to come here. I used to be able to download an apk from the internet and install it by tapping on it, but now I get the parse error code no matter what. Im thinking this may have something to do with the apps not being able to write to my internal or external sd card for some reason but I can't figure out how that makes sense. I am running 4.4.2 if I didnt say before also.

@Mikestony do you think if he flashed the stock firmware for his S3 using odin or flashed a custom rom the problem might get solved?
Possible yes (the ODIN bit) as it would bring the device to "out of the box" condition. Something just doesn't seem right with the issue he is having. Perhaps some leftover garbage from previous app installs?

@mrmouse44, how did you go about unrooting? Via SU?
Also, wouldn't hurt a bit to ODIN back to factory fresh as @Heights713 suggests :)

Thank you guys so much! Part of the reason I stopped looking was because nobody had had this problem before, and whenever I would ask the forums of a site, I didn't get any response until I came here. I'm downloading stock now. It will take some time as I have slow internet, but I will let you guys know how it goes when it finishes!
