How to get Data,MMS, & Hotspot on BYOD Devices

I've been seeing a lot of people having problems getting their apn's correct leaving them with no Internet, no MMS, or no hotspot here is the correct apn for MetroPCS

@alfick3 yes it is for Internet and MMS but not for Hotspot the reason why people think there hotspot is not working on byod devices they're not setting the mobile virtual network operator type which stands for mvno type and there is no need to root your phone

I followed the listing in the thread that I linked to and have full hotspot capabilities.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing you posted, but it's just a duplication of what is already there.

@alfick3 don't know what type of phone your using but my T-Mobile galaxy s6 edge + would not let my laptop surf Web while connected to my hotspot til I set the mvno type but my Verizon s6 edge did not need the mvno type set for Hotspot to work better safe then sorry

No, what I was saying is that my phone has that mvno set and I set it from the sticky.

@alfick3 I just look thru the sticky it doesn't say anything about setting the mvno type but if a mod wants to take my post down so be it

I apologize. I was looking at all this on my phone. I went back and looked again and saw that there was extra info in what you were providing.

No, I'm using a 2013 Moto G. I'll have to check this out further cause my wife's phone (Amazon Fire Phone) doesn't tether; maybe I will have to add this mvno setting you have here to get her hotspot working.

This worked for me. Thanks! I had resorted to rooting my phone to get hotspot to work. That meant no more Android Pay and having to manually flash updates(didn't mind before, but with monthly security patches, not so fun).

Now I can keep my device stock.

@bjacks12 no problem I'm using the s6 edge+ so rooting is not a option because samsung pay is the most advanced payment system out I can you my phone as a credit or debit card anywhere

I am jealous of that feature for sure. I'm currently limited to McDonalds and the convenience store by my house, lol.

Smith's(Kroger) won't implement NFC, Wal-Mart adamantly won't implement it....

It's pretty sweet I've been using it for 2 weeks now and people get so confused when I do it 1 lady thought here card terminal was malfunctioning and called the manager over

Extra info is always good. I used the information from the sticky and have no problems tethering with 3 BYOD phones.

Am I missing something about rooting and Android Pay?

So I was able to finally sit down and look at my wife's Fire Phone. She doesn't have the last two values for the MVNO Type and Overator value, and no way for me to put them in. I tried to add a new APN and still couldn't put in the last two values. Interesting, very interesting.
