Help [Google+] Is the "Following" circle special?

I'm reorganising my Google+ circles, and I wonder if the circle named "Following" is special in some way.

I mean, does it have some features which other circles which I make don't have, or is it just a standard folder, but with a special name and description to make organising easier?

In other words, if I made a folder with the same name and description, would it be different in any way from the already existing folder?

I ask because I want to know what the difference would be between having all followed accounts in appropriately named circles (like "android"), and putting them in the "Following" circle.

TL;DR: does the "Following" circle add anything beyond merely being a circle to put people in?

What if someone you don't know follows you? How can we prevent that?

I don't know if it's possible, but here are some things I do:

If I really don't want someone to see my content, I block them.

If I just don't want them to see specific content, I only share that content with the circles I want to share it with (so not public).

For more, I suggest the post by Mark Traphagen on this page:

Really? Thank you. This really helps. But isn't it inappropriate to just block them immediately?

I agree that it's a drastic measure, and I only do it when I think it's a case of spamming or of sheer inanity. I rarely use it, and it's only necessary when you notice that they are "coming after you", so to speak, or when it becomes unbearable. In most cases muting is sufficient, especially if they are not in any of your circles or communities.

Thank you for the info. Will do all of your advices. Thank you again. :)

You cannot prevent anyone from following you. You can prevent them from seeing your post by not making that post public. The easiest way to do this is to post to your circles and not to public. Ensure that person is not in your circles that you are posting to.
