Root [Guide] How to flash the ZV9 update: Step by step

After looking at what was already out there, the only difference mine had was an auto environmental variables adb path set.exe. Found it on a website that is now defunk.

So I decided to just upload a very comprehensive Linux SDK install text that will allow the Linux SDK user to set up everything so that fastboot commands and the ADB can be used from anywhere the terminal is opened, without having to cd to the SDK/platform-tools directory.

It's a compilation of one guide and my experience with getting everything to work properly all rolled into one.

If interested, check it out here: Linux_SDK_Install

Thank you for such a detailed step by step guide, Petrah, this is awesome!

Phone bought with ZV4, upgraded to ZV9 by mistake. ZV9 rooting is more painful :( ; phone currently running ZV9, stock ROM, no root, no recovery.

Follow OP instructions, now phone is rooted, with recovery. Nice!

Succeeded on 1st try. Like to jot down a few notes, in case I have to do this again.

Stage 1 - check recovery on your phone.
1) Reboot into recovery. This is your built-in recovery, even if you have done no mod to the android phone, this recovery comes with your phone. Press Vol down + home (house icon key) + power. This booted into a blue screen, the built-in recovery. Navigate with vol up/down and select with home key. This is different than the CWM recovery key, see below.

If you already have ZV9 installed, skip to Stage 2 -

Stage 2 -
Turn on your phone, connect with USB to your PC, make sure ADB is working.

Perform 10) - 12), if your phone reboot, likely you have succeeded. You are done with PC. Unplug your phone from PC, and turn off your phone

13) On your phone, boot into recovery, vol down + Home +power. It takes a few seconds. This should boot into a yellow screen, the CWM 4.0.1.5. On CWM, navigate with vol up/down, and the select key is camera key, on the side of the phone. If you press home key by mistake, it will give you a yelow icon with no reaction. Press the back key (icon curve arrow) to get back to main menu. If for any reason you back out now, either press the wrong key, or out of battery or what-not, you will not be able to get back to this CWM 4.0.1.5 as you have NOT rooted your phone. If it happened, you just have to redo 10) - 12), and you will then able to boot into this yellow menu, the CWM 4.0.1.5

While you are at the yellow menu, the CWM recovery menu, I would make a backup now before anything, and this is the backup of your stock ROM without root.

14) Now let's root the phone:...

Now the phone is rooted. Even if the phone got turned off for any reason, you should be able to reboot back into CWM. And continue with the rest of the steps.

My phone is now rooted and with recovery, running CM 7.2 IHO 07072012_MiRaGe. It is smooth like silk and has working Wifi hotspot. I also changed the lcd density from 160 to 120 to gain screen estate. pics attached. I bricked my JB phone when mod screen density.

Again, Petrah, thanks for the awesome guide, without your guide, cant change the build.prop!

What is the easiest way to make an ext4 partition? I remember seeing some CWM or something like that has a partition function. Any suggestion. I want to use the link2SD feature to take care of "low storage space.". No. I do not have a linux box. I had it with the Redhat, and the package still remains shrink wrapped, lol.

I am new well not that new I figured out how to root the last 5 phones I've had and have learned to follow directions exactly. This post was perfect and I was moving right along with my Optimus VM670 until I realized after changing the usb cord and trying 3 different ones one was an LG even 2 of them would charge my phone when I hooked it up to my computer but none of them would connect the phone no notification came up and there isn't really any options in settings for usb connections I read the manual again it says a notification will pop up when connected to the computer. I changed the sd card I used a Micro SD 2 GB a 4GB and a 16GB scandisk. Do you have any ideas what the problem might be. I have build # zv9.479a6632 sw version vm670zv9 baseband version vm670zv9_60401001 if any of that helps. Any input would be great I thought of trying to connect to run the commands with a wifi connection but all those apps say for rooted devices and I'm obviously not there yet.

1. Do you have usb debugging enabled?

2. Have you tried a different usb port?

3. A serial number is given in the command prompt when inputting "adb devices"?

4. You installed the drivers from the guide and restarted the pc?

Done all those things serial number comes back with "unknown". Maybe there is something wrong with that chip on my board could that be a reason?

I'd say probably not. Next question. ..did you do a factory reset after the update completed? Really only needs to be the cache/dalvik, but since you're still on stock recovery.... hopefully you didn't really install anything on the phone yet

Yes nothing is installed on the phone I did the factory reset from the recovery after the update.zip I ran that I downloaded from this post.

One other thing would be how the drivers were installed. You really need to manually uninstall any prior version you have before installing any other. You may want to try uninstalling all the lg stuff from your computer, restart, reinstall, restart, then see if it straightens it out.
I will try that I did install all three drivers at once and I also have a VM701 that I use to connect to my computer so I will try that thank you for your help......:)
