Root Major issues, tried multiple ROMS

OK first of all bought the phone through freedompop, I've tried CM12.1 (currently running) blisspop deodexed and odexed ZV5, the main issue is the APN keeps switching back to freedompop (no matter how many wipes on EVERYTHING i do) I am currently attempting to edit the XML file with the APN's, except i have no way to copy it back, every method I attempt fails, also no matter what Gapps I try to use either the keyboard fails to function, or the play store quits at random

Changed a few things and more clarification: The MVNO I'm using is Ting, I have edited the XML file in order to allow mms on Ting (changed all relevant sprint mms APN's to the Ting one) However attempting to copy the file back into /etc using Root Explorer always fails.

My issues with CM12.1 and Blisspop were mainly the play store acting up and the fact that dialer codes were not working so ##72786# was useless, if anyone knows a work around I'll jump right back into CM or Blisspop fast enough to cause whiplash, however until then I have now reverted back to the Odexed ZV5 ROM which LG just pushed out the ZV6 update to the phone.

Still working on this though, haven't reached the point where I wanted to throw it, I've come close though!

## codes don't work on CM. Those are for stock. You have to use the *#*# AOSP codes (*#*#4636#*#* specifically in this case, I believe). I don't know why you were having issues with root explorer, unless there was something wrong with your root access, but you can edit APNs with shortcut master. Just search APN and launch the one selected in the screenshot (may be slightly different on CM).

Ah, thanks I did not know that the stock dialer codes didn't work (of course, I've never had an issue with PRL till now either)

I went ahead and modified the APN's and had to reflash because every 3 seconds I was getting "com.android.phone has stopped" error and after a full reflash and working with it in a 4G area, I noticed something: If I disable 4G i can send MMS without issue, but once 4G is back on I can't send MMS messages at all, it'll stay at "sending" for an hour, then just appear as if it was sent, but it wasn't.

When you flash, are you wiping the entire phone? I know the lollipop ROMs are a little flaky on some points, but what you're describing sounds like issues associated with dirty flashing... or it could be the recovery you're using. Use TWRP 2.8.7.0, if you aren't already, wipe everything, and have only the files you need to flash on the SD card.

I fully erase everything except external SD card. I've been using TWRP but I'll download the version you specified.

My phone was just pushed the ZV6 update and now my damn screen is useless, I can't even swipe to unlock because it registers as multiple taps in a row rather than a swipe. Even tried a factory reset, however if I wipe just the cache it will work for about 5 minutes, and thats even after a full reset. Can someone give me a working link for a full GAPPS zip, because every one I've tried seems to have some issue, I plan to flash CM12.1 again

I've been flashing since the old WinMobile 5x days, this LG is a royal pain in the a$$!

You certainly are having a having some bad luck with it!

For whatever reason the gapps packages we're all used to have been getting removed. You'll want to go get this:
http://opengapps.org/

If you've been installing CM 12, then your recovery could be the issue... There's one for lollipop/KitKat, and there's one that's KitKat only. The one I mentioned is for both.

Thanks, so I have CM and now twrp 2.8.7.0 installed and working without issue. Even with SU installed searching the entire device for 'apn' shows nothing, I did the "sprint apn fix" by flashing the zip, now I just need to edit the sprint mms apn over to ting's.

Here is where I ran into the issue previously: I can pull the apn file with droid explorer, however after editing and pushing it back, the software breaks causing 'phone.android.' something to stop every several seconds. That was after changing the extension on the original file to '.old' Is there a specific way to push the modified apn file back to the device? I tried with Root explorer by changing the extension and copying the edited one in, broke it just like pushing it back with Droid explorer

Edit: so I used the AOSP code to get in and set it for LTE/CDMA(AutoPRL) and i found a ting apn file here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340437 I extracted the apn-conf.xml and copied it over the existing one overwriting it. Now in the signal bar I am getting a' !' and no data connection

Nah, just want to put your thread in with the other root-related ones...you've had some great help from the guys above (other areas don't necessarily get the cross-over from the root folks like it looks like you get in here).

:)
Well thank you. Hopefully I can have a fully functioning LG Volt soon! Although it sort of makes me want to pull the old Palm Pro WinMo 6x out of its grave ;)

NEW DEVELOPMENT! OK so with the Ting APN flashed I have everything except data, yet MMS works. With the Sprint APN I have everything except MMS... UNLESS I disable 4G, then everything works as it should, with 4G enabled it takes around 45min to send a picture (even in a 4G area) but it won't let me receive them. Also ignore the playstore issue above, fixed that too.

So what in the world could be the issue with 4G?

Sorry, guess I posted in the wrong forum?

Other issue just appeared...
Now after the MMS fix and data fail the playstore won't connect... Uhg

post your ting apn settings for mms. might be able to edit in a fix for you in the flashsble apns fix thats available here for most carriers. no promises it will work. no promises i can finish it today but will try.

I owe you a beer! I've lost more sleep over this than I did with my damn finals for my associates degree.
I've included both APN files, the one with working data, no mms and vice verse.

The only information I could find regarding MMS on ting was http://mms.plspictures.com BUT mms works perfect on the sprint apn (data no mms folder) unless 4G was left on, when set to CDMA or WCDMA everything worked on 3G

what we really need is the stock original apn files. but will work with these and we will see where we end up.

as a matter of fact im positive your current issue most likely is in build.prop carrier settings. especially with cm roms. the build.prop for it will need to match the settings in your stock build.prop. if you have a backup of your stock rom i suggest reverting to it,pull the build.prop and the apn.xml for what it might be worth and then we can get everything on the same page.

I created a backup in TWRP it is over 1GB and fails on upload each time, it was either odex or deodex ZV5, but everything actually worked

Edit: Oh wait, except mms over 4G...

Edit 2: I started flashing because I didn't even have MMS under stock, same issue as the others worked on 3G but not 4G, I started flashing cause I thought FP screwed it up.
