Donald Trump faces new test: Will people vote for a loser?

Donald Trump's whole campaign has been based on winning. But after a major setback in Iowa, he's now going to have to cope with being seen as a loser — at least for now.

Trump's disappointing second-place finish in the key early-voting state on Monday night, barely ahead of Marco Rubio, comes after recent polls showed him ahead of Ted Cruz. He's now facing huge pressure to hold onto his lead in New Hampshire, where recent polls have him with three times the support of any of his competitors.

Ben Carson is heading home to Florida to do laundry

Speculation abounded Monday night that GOP presidential hopeful Ben Carson might drop out of the race, after news broke that Carson was not sticking around in Iowa to wait out caucus results, nor heading directly to New Hampshire or South Carolina for the next primaries on the calendar.

But Carson said he is remaining in the race, and that he was simply heading to his home in Florida to "get a fresh set of clothes."

Marco Rubio comes 3rd in Iowa. He declares victory.

Sen. Marco Rubio placed third in the Iowa caucus Monday — behind Sen. Ted Cruz and businessman Donald Trump.

But you wouldn't know it from the speech Rubio delivered to his supporters, where he praised Iowans for helping him exceed expectations in the first primary contest of 2016.

"Tonight we have taken the first step, an important step, toward winning the nomination," Rubio, the first candidate to address his supporters Monday night, said to raucous applause.

Trump faces must-win fight in Granite State

Donald Trump faces a stark challenge as the clock ticks down to Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary.

The business mogul’s stinging loss in the Iowa caucuses on Monday robbed him of his sense of momentum. While he continues to lead polls of Granite State Republicans by a large margin, as he has for months, doubts are deepening about whether he can translate that advantage into actual votes.

Trump will also be facing a buoyant Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.), who outperformed expectations in Iowa with a strong third-place finish. Rubio will be hoping that New Hampshire’s centrist voters rally around him rather than dividing their allegiances among several candidates cut from similar cloth, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

In New Hampshire, GOP governors take aim at a resurgent Marco Rubio

Marco Rubio’s surprisingly strong showing in the Iowa caucuses reshuffled the already intense competition here in New Hampshire among the Republican establishment candidates, leading some to sharpen their attacks on the freshman senator from Florida ahead of next week’s primary.

Cruz: Democrats will win if Rubio is GOP nominee

"Is Marco Rubio a genuine conservative?" Kuhner asked after listing Rubio's support for "open borders," "NSA spying," and the Obama administration's Trans Pacific Partnership during an onstage interview.

"On each of the issues you just listed, Marco's views are virtually indistinguishable from Hillary Clinton," Cruz replied. "Let me say this — if we nominate a candidate who's pro-amnesty, we'll lose. It's not complicated. It's real simple."

Fresh off his Iowa win, Ted Cruz adjusts for New Hampshire

"In Iowa you’ve got more evangelicals. In New Hampshire you have more libertarians," Cruz told reporters on his plane as it traveled from Greenville, S.C., to Manchester, N.H. "That’s why I talk about the Reagan coalition so often. Most candidates are either conservatives who can compete in Iowa or moderates who can compete in New Hampshire. Usually you can’t do both."

GOP rivals savage each other at New Hampshire debate

Marco Rubio takes the brunt of the blows, as the candidates desperately try to score points ahead of Tuesday’s primary.

With time running out before the New Hampshire primary, the top Republican rivals desperately tried to land knock-out punches at Saturday night’s debate — and most of them were aiming at Marco Rubio.

Schlafly unloads on Rubio: 'He betrayed us all'

“Once he got elected, he betrayed us all,” she told WND. “He said he was against amnesty and against the establishment. And once he got in, right away, he became an agent of the establishment. And now, of course, he’s big for amnesty and letting all the illegal immigrants in. He betrayed us a number of times on that issue.”
