throttling

hi.iam curious if all phones are thottling after some time on demanding aps ,if so all benchmarks are grain of salt
are there phones without thottling ?

Are you trying to download something, or an app on the phone seems to be slowing down?

If the phone's internal temperature rises above a certain point, the CPU speed is intentionally slowed down.

This is to prevent it from overheating and going into failure mode.

If it is a download problem, that is probably due to the carrier cutting back on your download speed after certain amount of time has passed.

www.speedof.me will definitely show you if throttling is happening with your carrier.
If it is not, all of the waveforms will have the same height.
If it is throttling back, the succeeding waveforms will be of lessor height.

i mean about cpu/gpu SOC throttilng only,if all phones are throttling at any demanding game or app then the benchmarks are fake
we have to measure the real speed after some time of run then.i have one example: my xperia z3 runs chess,after 20 mins starts to
slowdown the speed,i read that z3 has 750 kn/sec at chess after 20 mins gets 540/kn ,i wonder what kind of speed test at reviews they make?

I thought the carriers throttled, not the phones.
TMO puts most videos through at 1.5 speed. Some say it's all of them, others say it's only BingeOn.
TMO will also offer unlimited, but throttle after a certain point or if traffic gets too heavy. You can still use data, but at a slower speed. I think most of the US carriers do this. I'd check your carrier's TOS.

You get a phone made to be sold unlocked, I doubt you could build in throttling - too many variables. I also have ATT and some other bands on my phone. Since the phone says North American on the specs, I'd assume that Canada was also included.

Device only, not the Internet carrier:

If the game or app you are running demands that the CPU/GPU run at maximum speed for an extended period of time, that process is going to produce a lot of heat within the chip. When that heat/temperature reaches a certain point, the CPU is going to say "hey guys, I am about to burn up, let me cool off for a while, okay?" and it will not give you a choice, it will definitely reduce the speed at which it is operating. This was programmed into the device's memory cells to prevent a failure.

You are going to perceive that slowness right away as being slower to respond to your request, screen redraws, etc.... if this pisses you off, get something to keep the device cooled off, a fan, colder air, something... but if you don't allow the CPU/GPU to cool down, it will encur a drastic failure.... and that will really piss you off.

All SOCs will go into thermal throttling if their operating parameters are exceeded. Benchmark apps serve no other purpose than to give a rough A vs B comparison using identical tests. If you want to test ultimate performance, try running a stress-testing app alongside a benchmark one.... but be prepared for the inevitable crashes/reboots that will ensue as the SOC exceeds its limits.

The benchmarks aren't fake. They're just how fast the phone CAN run. It doesn't take into account the point wherein the phones need to take a rest.

We don't have throttling. Basically all wireless data is metered, and if you want another 1GB or so you pay for it. But it's always fast. And no carriers in China charge extra fees for tethering.

Right now, at this very point in time, I am uploading a video to YouTube of 428 mB in length.

Verizon is 3 times faster than my ADSL so I thought "Let's try out this throttling myth" and turned off WiFi and got it going on DATA LTE 4g

at first, very promising, it uploaded 2% in a couple of minutes and said ' 68 minutes remain '

got busy here on the forum, looked at the phone again, and it says " 3 hours remaining " ???
huh? and the 2% was still sitting there on the screen.

I turned on WiFi and set DATA to OFF.
Took about 30 seconds for things to sync back up, but then all of a sudden, it picked up and kept going from where it had been..... that 3 hours suddenly was replaced with 60 minutes remaining.

as I am finishing up typing this, it says 31% uploaded; 52 minutes remaining.
yup, it has uploaded 28% just in the time it is taking me to write this post.

THROTTLING is very much alive folks, believe it.... they do not allow us to upload at full speed.

He isn't asking about data throttling. He is asking about CPU throttling. Like when the CPU can run at 2.8Ghz but the firmware would limit it to 2Ghz only. Your long post is quite irrelevant to the question.
