Honor 5X AMA (ask me anything)

just to let everyone know bootloader is unlockable, and there is already TWRP and root available, although root can only be accomplished if you have Linux OS installed. Also, a debloat script, and custom kernal is also available, so with all that being said, stay tuned for one hell of a phone! with a lot of customization ;)

I've been using the Honor 5X for a couple weeks now as a tester for Huawei. I'm not the best at writing out comprehensive reviews that touch on all the features, but I'll do my best to answer your questions on this exciting new phone.

So go ahead, as me anything.:)
I don't find option of FHD 1080 recording in video recorder settings, there are only options for 720p and few lower resolutions.

Very serious question Can you send and receive picture messages without any problems? I just got my girlfriend a Galaxy S6 and she is unable to send picture messages using the default messenger and I have no clue why. I've heard it might be an issue with 5.1
I have had some difficulty with MMS, but it turned out to be AT&T, not the phone. Didn't stop me from troubleshooting the issue until I realized it was happening on multiple phones.

I think that is correct. Let me check.

Granted, I'm on beta firmware. I don't know if it's been pushed out to retail devices yet. If you don't see that resolution option on your device it's entirely possible that it's on the way. :)

That's not entirely true.

You can unlock and install TWRP using Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux (you just need adb and fastboot working) - and root from there. I can assure you that we've tested all configurations.

And don't forget my mod to turn off swap - you'll be glad you did, it reduces lag.

Otherwise yes - hold on to your hat, some very nice customizations are definitely coming as soon as possible. :)

Is it possible to be advised of a incoming call to the other SIM, while phoning, and switch to it? Thanks

Is Marshmallow available for Honor 5x yet?
Not yet, but it is coming. Huawei has publicly stated it will get Marshmallow, but didn't put a timeframe on it. I am one of the external testers so I can't really say anything beyond that as I don't speak for Huawei and don't want to set any unrealistic expectations.

hello how has this phone been working for you since day one on up to date I'm just waiting to get paid I'm deciding to get this one and upgrade my cricket phone. Also do you have root and twrp or another custom recovery? Does it have any custom ROMs I hope you can answer this questions

It has run fine for me and I've been using it as a daily driver since mid December. There is root and twrp, but I haven't tried it being a tester for Huawei. I know @EarlyMon has been doing some cool stuffs with root like turning off swap (a good thing) and unbricking the device from different scenarios. I know there are some custom roms in the works, but I'm not positive of the stability of them for DD yet, but I'm sure they are coming.

Hello,

I'm seriously considering buying an Honor 5X but I read here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-7/help/how-to-activate-multiuser-emui-3-1-t3263661 ) that apparently EMUI 3.1 comes WITHOUT multiuser support.

This is a key Android feature for me and not having it would really be a deal breaker... in the thread there are instructions about how to activate it but a user says he has a honor 5X and didn't work for him... then someone adds that works only for EMUI 4.0... and you need to be root to do it.

Can someone who has the phone confirm it comes without multiuser support? If that's true, does anyone know if EMUI 4.0 will come with it and if the EMUI 3.1 software in the Honor 5X can be upgraded?

Nope no multiuser support at present.

The upgrades for Huawei/honor phones are model specific like they are for all manufacturers. What's available publicly at distribution is what you get (EMUI 3.1) until the Marshmallow update and we don't know what version of EMUI that will bring. Probably 4.x.

If it's coming, it will come then - we won't know this month.

It may also come with a custom rom but today, it's too soon to say.

I know - the answers suck. But they're honest.
