Those are beautiful! I might well grill me out a good steak tonight as well.

I had planned to smoke something today. Rain has been in the forecast for this weekend and thunderstorms quite possible. I was afraid of the wind factor so I didn't get anything to smoke.
Well they had the rain part right. Slow easy rain which my area is in desperate need but so far no winds. It would be a perfect day to be smoking something. Dang.

I was at the river over the holiday. Friday night I grilled out some fantastic ribeyes. It was one of those cooks outs where the stars aligned. They were so tasty and tender. Just incredible steaks. We had some great meals over the weekend but everyone kept talking about those steaks. I prepped them as I always do. I used some spices and marinade and beer and bagged them up. Letting them rest at room temp a couple of hours prior to putting them to the fire. I always turn the bags of steaks a number of times while resting and message the meat a bit. Same old routine but had exceptional results this time.

I baked sweet potatoes and grilled some asparagus spears. I served the steaks with some sliced portabella mushrooms marinated in butter and garlic salt. It was a wonderful meal. Sometimes the magic works and sometimes it doesn't. :)

My son tried something different on his smoker over the holiday that piqued my interest. He borrowed one of my chicken woks... used for beer butt chicken and somehow used it while smoking a brisket. I have no idea just what he tried or how it turned out. I'll give a full report when I talk to him next.

My friend... that looks wonderful! Did they taste as good as they look? I've just got to try that. How can it be bad with green beans, brown sugar, and bacon? :D
It's the third time I've made them, and each time I have to make more so they last. Recipe is right of Traegers site, but really they could be cooked on any grill. :)

FWIW, I've made them with both dark brown sugar as the recipe calls for and light brown sugar with no noticable difference in flavor.

The smoking likely carmelizes the sugars, making any difference slight at best.
Tried finishing off w/a healthy splash of beer? ;) :D

Well.. sheesh! I have an update on the smoke my son laid down last weekend. Yep, he smoked a huge brisket. It was good but not as good as he hoped it might be considering the price he paid for the brisket. The chicken wok... well he borrowed both of mine. He used them to do chickens lol. I thought he was using them somehow to smoke his brisket. Not so. Seems he as having guest over and smoked brisket and did two beer butt chickens. Mystery solved.

Just the wife and at the cabin this weekend. Actually did some fishing for a change. Was a great weekend. Naturally a great weekend includes grilling out something yummy. One night I grilled some spicy sausages. I served them up on some grilled buns with tart mustard and kraut. The next night I tried to duplicate the wonderful ribeye experience of a few weeks back. And... was successful. I know it's not something special I'm doing for I always grill them the same. The butcher has just got a heck of a run on quality ribeyes going. The steaks are huge... more than a man can eat. A generous fat ring around the eye. Wonderful steaks. No need for a knife steak. I can't say I've ever eaten a better steak.
So.... tonight I sliced up the leftover steak and spicy sausage links... threw in some onion and bell pepper and some hot salsa and fajita seasoning and wrapped them up in some hot tortillas with some cheese. Waste not, want not. :D

Happy father's day grill masters. Anyone planning a big day at the grill? I have a half dozen lawns to mow tomorrow but other than that... I'm going to enjoy the day on the grill. I have plans to service and put my Jenn Air back into service. It has sat idle for the past three or four years. It's a great grill but I far prefer the smoker experience. I'm thinking about doing a rotisserie chicken. I might just grill something. Heck, I don't know what I'm cooking but if nothing else, I'll have my grill ready to rock and roll again.

I have this model. It's been a great grill and it's seen lots of use. Not long before I quit using it I replaced the brass orifices. The original equipment was supposed to last forever lol.. not so. They did not burn out like stamped or rust out like cast iron.... they warped in the heat and eventually the seams opened up creating a hell of a hot spot at the end of each orifice bar. The only other problem I experienced was the piezo striker quit working. Pretty typical stuff that I hoped to escape by purchasing a high end grill. I'm now convinced that no matter what the cost of a grill... those two problems will have to be dealt with sooner or later.

I gave some time to my grill today. It's in a lot worse shape than I remembered. :( Two of the three orifice bars are shot. I suspect the regulator has a problem but didn't get that far. I'll have to order some parts to put that baby back into commission. It's not happening today. I went ahead and gave the Traeger a good cleaning. I grilled my favorite hamburger steaks on it later. Looks like the temp is topping out just at 400F. I think it's time I replace the fire pot that has a hole in the side. Oh well, you should expect some maintenance with the use it sees.

My steaks turned out great. I'm the only one in the family that really likes them lol. But hey, it's my special day. right? I take 85% lean, egg, crackers, sliced mushrooms, garlic salt and pepper, and a bit of bbq sauce and make huge patties out of the mix. I grill them on high until the outside of the steaks get a bit crispy on the outside due to the bbq sauce caramelizing. Yummy! I fixed some mashed potatoes and some whole kernel corn to go with them. Now I'm stuffed.

Those steaks sound great to me,what's not to like......... :thumbsupdroid:
As for the grills/smokers,I seriously doubt if there's any bulletproof ones,at any cost.
Even if there is such a unicorn, virtually detailing the equipment after each use is prolly a pre-requisite to keep it in shape,no fun in that..........
Throw in a salt air environment & multiply by a factor of 10,at least.
As you mentioned, occasional heavy cleaning/maintenance is part of the experience, not so much a chore.
At least you had a plan B when the Jenn Air threw your plans a curveball.
