Help What keeps turning my wifi back on?

The only sure way I know is to turn every option off in the wifi Advanced settings then to turn wifi on and select each wifi access point you don't want to connect to automatically and select "Forget". If you ever want to connect again to one of these access points you have to manually connect. When done with using the wifi select Forget again to stop the auto connecting feature.

I found the best solution for this most annoying issue is to get a IPhone......lol!! J/K!

Androids suck in two main areas.....networking and security......but at least those are not very important Functions to have working well right? DOH!

These devices in general are built so CHEAPLY that a online banking nightmare is unfolding.....and it is ugly ugly.....

As a network security consultant for over 28 years Now, myself and many others have watched as this giant ball of spaghetti was being formed......and manufacturers started pumping out these new models at record speed without ANY security testing.....

Let me be clear here.....these phones and tablet devices are built so cheap and with no regard to banking technology that they CAN NOT even be secured!

No update or firmware in the world could fix this *********** that grows bigger by The nanosecond........

When this one bites you in your lazy, online banking, new phone buying ass.......Man is it gonna hurt!

I was having the same issue with WiFi, and this is how I cleared it up. If I missed a similar answer in this thread I apologize.

Before I go to bed I would turn off the WiFi and data network on my phone so as not to be disturbed by email notifications at 2am. Recently I've noticed that my WiFi is ON when I get up, that is if I hadn't already been awakened in the middle of the night by email being received.

It took a a few days to realize the culprit in this case was the Xfinity WiFi App I had installed. In the settings for the app I found a prompt to "Turn on WiFi when in range", and it was checked by default.

I have a powerful Xfinity connection close to my house, so close that often when I do turn on WiFi it connects to that and not my home WiFi. I think that during the night the signal is being picked up by my phone (I'm not sure at this point if the phone is ALWAYS listening, even when off, or the app allows listening regardless of WiFi status) and turning on the WiFi.
** edit: It appears I didn't see the post immediately prior to mine, again I apologize.

Hello and welcome to the forums. I see your having a problem with a android device . Well the wifi can be fixed very easy go to the settings and look for the wireless network settings you want to uncheck the notify one . But to be very truthful with u the wifi trick is the way to go . This is due to the data if your on wifi your not getting the data charges . O yes NO OVER ON DATA . But u need the wifi for YouTube cause the videos to watch. But uncheck the notify when new networks is near. And this will stop the wifi from a random cut on . This wifi can save data and battery . .post back if any problems

My Samsung smartphone has Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
I can't find anything specifically labeled as "connection optimizer" so I can't turn it off.
I looked in a bunch of other places too but didn't find it anywhere so either it's called something else on this phone or I don't have it.
Please advise.

Furthermore, I have the Dutch application :).
Anybody who knows the Dutch translation for "connection optimizer" and where to find it on Samsung Android 4.4.2 KitKat?

I turned off all possible settings, but WiFi still keeps turning on, seemingly at random:
- Geen meldingen ontvangen wanneer open netwerken binnen bereik zijn.
- Google-locatieservice en andere applicaties niet laten scannen op WiFi-netwerken
- Slimme netwerkwissel --> uitgeschakeld

I'm getting a little annoyed with my dearest smartphone at this moment!

More than likely you have an app called "My Account", Open it up and navigate to the setting and you will find a Wifi Optimizer, this is separate from the phone settings, so you may find that the phone settings are being overridden by the Wifi setting in your app called "My Account"...
This is exactly what it was for me.
I have a Nexus 6 with straight talk at&t. I installed the straight talk account app, but I never knew that it had setting to turn on my wifi in the background. Wifi optimizer was the exact setting. Thank you so much [emoji3]

I've had a similar problem on a Cubot X6 4.4.2. since May 2016. A few days ago I discovered disabling an app called com.android.user.manager has fixed the problem completely. Now when I turn off data or wifi they stay off. com.android.user.manager restarts on restarting the phone though. To disable go to settings>apps>All click com.android.user.manager then force stop and disable.

Hi, I've had a similar problem with my Verizon Samsung S5 ever since updating to the latest Android. I typically keep Waze on top when driving (there's a setting in Waze to do that) to prevent anything overriding the display. Since the upgrade (one month ago) my browser opens all the time while driving, asking me to sign in to connect to (typically) a Time Warner hot spot. There is an option to select a different carrier (like Xfinity). This is driving me nuts and I can't figure out what to do. I don't have a connections optimizer that I can find. Any help greatly appreciated!

Even though I turn wifi off in the settings, for some reason it turns itself back on at inopportune times, apparently in order to detect and nag me about nearby WiFi networks that they would rather I be using. The last time it happened it interrupted the playback a YouTube video.

Has anyone else seen this behavior? Does anyone know what may be causing it and how to make it stop?
If you have Avast antitheft installed and you've changed sims that is the culprit. Go to your Avast account and report phone found.

I was having this problem too of Wi-Fi turning itself on at random times automatically. Phone is a LG K7 on the T-Mobile networks. Finally figured out what was causing this behavior. It is the location finder for the GPS in the phone. Here's the fix:

  1. From the pull down menu, select the gear symbol (settings)
  2. Select the General tab
  3. Select Location
  4. Select Mode
  5. There are three radio button options for determining your location on this screen: High Accuracy (uses GPS, Wi-Fi, and networks), Battery Saving (uses Wi-Fi and networks), and Device Sensors Only (GPS only)
  6. Select the Device Sensors Only radio button
  7. You are done. This should prevent the Wi-Fi from starting automatically.

I was experiencing the same thing. Here's what I found out by investigating my phone. Since I take a LOT of photos and had my GPS tracking and adding addresses. I ended up turning off the GPS address finder on my Google Maps. Had to basically go in the back door to do it. Hope this helps.

Here is a VERY QUICK WAY... On your drop down menu, scroll all the way to EDIT. This gives you a whole list of things, one being wifi. Uncheck Wifi, Locations and Maps. There may be others you might want to uncheck or check. This fixed my phone. No more wifi unless I want to use it. To use it click your drop down menu, scroll to EDIT and put a check on wifi. I do this at restaurants and places I can use wifi for pictures, selfies and such. Takes me 2 seconds! This also overides anything on the list. Try it.... Worked for me.
