Help Help! Phone contacts go missing randomly on android.

Same issue here. Xperia Z5. I've added a contact via the SMS app, and a day later, it's gone. I've repeated the process, followed by a manual sync of Google Contacts, and it's synced up fine. Hopefully the contact will stay there, but it's not much of a solution having to manually sync every time you add a contact.

I wonder if it's worth using another app to reliably add contacts to the phone.

This has happened to me numerous times now.

I work as a software developer, we have a lot of phones in our office for testing.
I always use the newest phone we have for myself.
I had the exact same problem with the Samsung S5, Xperia M5, Samsung S7 (I'm using that right now).
I can't remember if I had the problem with the older devices too, but I can definitely remember that the problem existed on the last three phones I used.
The problem drives me insane. I sync all my contact with my google account, automatic sync is enabled.
My contacts app shows only Google Contacts. If I add a contact, the Google Account is always selected as storage...
Maybe there's some problem with the Google Account ?!

Last week I lost all if my contacts on my Moto, which were previously synced from my outlook account. I ended up doing a full reset and they all reappeared. 2 days later they went again. I synced my Microsoft account with my Gmail account and some reappeared, although not all and some I don't even remember. I then started putting some back on, only to find they randomly disappear again or multiply. I am a total technophobe and thus is driving me mad. All the correct contacts are on my Microsoft account, but my phone seems to have a mind of its own. Considering getting rid of it and going back to windows or apple, any help would be appreciated.

Still an issue. Loose random contacts on Galaxy S4 phone. They are still in gmail contacts. The only way to recover is to edit the contact and it will sync to the phone. I only have 200 contacts, but when I compared gmail to phone, I was missing 14. Each had to be edited in some way to get it synced to the phone. Is there any kind of "official" Android website that addresses bugs?

Galaxy Nexus (original)
Cyanogen Modded,
oddly last week a calendar (google accnt) failed to notify me, shortly after a friend texts me and it shows his ph# instead of his name
shortly after my neighbours contact goes missing while the text log remains, so i could add her # back.

note: regularily the email accnts stop synching
the ONLY resolution was to recreate the email account. i suspect the synch issue reside on googles servers.

Ive got exactly the same issue here.

Ive deleted and readded the accounts from phone and cleared the appdata cache from the contacts app, still occurs

Issue only seems to happen overnight and only for newly added contacts.

The only difference i can see here though is this is via an outlook.com account. I tried using both the "outlook" option to setup the account and also "exchange". I tried exchanhe because i read somewhere that the new outlook.com servers work better with exchange. Anyway, same problem. Im about to do a factory reset here!!

Same issue, just noticed today. (HTC, Android 4.1.1)
Contacts added in the last 6 months or so (~10) just f*cking disappeared!
I used some of them recently, and now their gone!

They were all saved on the phone as google contact numbers, but sadly my sync was off for a while, and after noticing the missing contacts today, and trying to do a sync a few of them were restored. (probably saved with the last sync before turning it off)
How the hell can this happen? Are my numbers saved on the phone, subjects to random disappearance? This is some BS!

Same issue here. Have a Samsung Galaxy S5. Using gmail to back up my numbers, but this did not help bcs the missed number/ contact wasn't there either.
It happens any contact either disappears or may lose part of it, f ex the number. Other case is when I reentered the lost number, all the sms were accessed again! It's strange.

SOLVED!! almost......moto x with no call blocker installed, contacts randomly disappear, same problem everyone is having here and breaking my f'n soul.... go to contacts/contacts to display/customize and select all boxes you can possibly check...why my contacts are scattered and categorized into cloud and gmail etc i dont know, i just create contacts as i need to and they get slotted into different categories...???....anyway most now are "unhidden" from me, but some are still missing. i then DID recreate a missing contact name and number and lo and behold, the texting history came back...this means that data is STILL hidden and able to mysteriously reappear somehow....verizon has no explanation, they never heard of this and think i am crazy...btw my cloud backup is identical to my phone with missing contacts, and my google account also identical with missing contacts...problem is with the automatic backup process ...i have lost many important contacts forever and may never get laid again....and you want me to get into a driverless car?!?!? comments, ideas, jokes please reply to reedha@aol.com

SOLVED for now...contacts randomly dissappearing for years .... verizon thinks im making it up...if i had a dollar for everytime i have heard " ive never heard of that before..."...asses... recently got a new moto x2 and IN STORE about 20 contacts were eliminated when they transferred files from my old phone moto x1...eliminated from all records everywhere including an even older phone...impossible to get them back i was fuming pissed in store, they though i was imagining contacts because they were not in the cloud, therefore never really there...THANKS ASSHOLES...funny though when a missing contact actually texted me, it reappeared on my list, so they are not eliminated, they are "hidden" somehow...write numbers down on paper people!!!! BUT POSSIBLE PROBLEM SOLVED - my cloud was FULL even though i never even set up the cloud or ever used it for anything. i cleared the cloud and no contacts have disappeared yet...dont know how or why cloud got full..."automatic" and "sync" in this new world ****s thing up more than it helps...so in conclusion, in the "update" process, my guess is if the cloud is full or almost full, our nifty little computer gets confused and flustered, and contacts are "hidden" somehow...would be nice if my phone acted like a phone
