I just spent three hours trying to turn the &*) thing off. I have version 6.1 and guess what? Talkback IS NOT listed under settings - Accessibility. Not knowing how it got turned on the first place I started experimenting with all kinds of different keystrokes--and voila! I found the answer.

IF you hold down 2 fingers on the screen while pressing the Power button, it toggles Talkback! The first time you do it it'll turn the thing on and you probably won't know why. Do it again and it turns it off.

Hope this helps someone.

It took me an hour, was driving me nuts, here are some tips on using 6.0.1 to turn off Talkback:
- use the tap and then a double tap to navigate the menus and screen.
-use a 2 finger touch to scroll up and down

Was driving me nuts I couldn't scroll down in setting to get to accessibility! 2 fingers cracked it.
Setting -> Accessability -> Talkback to OFF!

I find the quickest, easiest way to turn off TalkBack is to tap the HOME button three times.

It saves you from having to navigate into/through all the accessibility menus.

Perhaps some of you have enabled Talkback (Settings->Accessibility->Talkback {on}) and are wondering how to turn it off. Here's how:

1) Selections are made by long-tap then double-tap. Remember that, as you'll need it multiple times!
2) Select the Home screen (Remember the select technique?)
3) Select the app waffle-iron. (Remember?)
4) Use two (2) fingers to swipe through to the Settings icon, then select it. (Yeah, that's the ticket ... I remember now!)
5) Two-finger swipe to select Accessibility.
6) Select Talkback.
7) Select {on|off} toggle.
8) Select confirmation "OK".

You're free! Free at last!

I spent about a half-hour on the phone with Google Support this morning, and it was as much of a mystery to them as it was to me, although I had spent a previous half-hour discerning the long-tap double-tap technique. Young Joe at Google helped tremendously by directing my attention to the app waffle (since nether of us could pull-down notifications), then the two-fingered swipe to get to the Settings icon.

Damn, that was a painful morning! Hopefully things will be easier now for anyone else who falls into Talkback-disable hell.

The malware "virus" might have come from a malicious app sideloaded from outside of Google Play, i.e. installing from untrusted sources and whatever websites.

Correct me if I'm wroung, but isn't Talkback an app? It is on my phone. I just went into Settings>Apps and uninstalled it.

I wish it were that easy. Once you restart your phone the 'uninstalled' app reinstalls itself and this whole talkback BS starts over.
Have had my phone for at least 3 yrs.Within the past 2 months this damn app has been annoying the shit out of me. I have disabled it, uninstalled it etc BUT can not get rid of it. Was told over a year ago that there are no new updates for my phone but why in the hell has this been activated?? How in the hell do I get this shit to stop? This app was never activated before until this past November. I am not tech literate and do not download apps to my phone. No light app as mentioned by others. I use my phone to call others and google maps only. Why the hell can't I get this ****ing app to stop?? Phone has been acting up lately.. att telling me I need upgrade...they can shove it where the sun don't shine. I have to restart my phone every other day..and this app reappears. Thinking about downgrading back to a flip phone, never had issues like this crap before with them.

Thought I'd give an update to my situation. After spending nearly an hour on the phone with an att rep named Blake R we finally concluded that the phone was possessed. He could not figure out how to help me with my situation. All steps listed above by others were preformed when he and I were speaking yet nothing seemed to work. We even did a hard reset and still the problem was there. He stated the phone was worse than his nagging ex wife...LOL. We ended our conversation without resolving the problem. The next day I had a couple texts from att asking how the phone convo went etc. Gave my review and explained how I was still dealing with the stupid talkback app. My last message to them was to fix it or I would be switching all 5 of our phones back to Sprint. Within an hour of that my phone turns on and off by itself a few times and *POOF* NO MORE TALKBACK APP!!!!
Don't be fooled, these companies have control over your phones and have the abilities to remove apps without ever having to see the phone.

I have a BLU Energy XL and it does not have "TalkBack" app. Tried all the suggestions included in this thread...... none worked. I finally tracked the culprit down to an ACCESSIBILITY service called "APUS Super Engine". Although active feedback is not listed as a function, it enables it. Make sure the service is OFF.

No such accessibility service or app anywhere on my Android phone or in the Google Play store. Sorry we couldn't help you, but maybe you start a new thread to help others ... this one concerns Talkback.
