I have a Motorola G4+ that recently took a bath in motor oil. Long story short, it was in my pocket, oil change gone wrong, and it wound up soaked as well as my pants.
I had a case on it, which protected it mostly, but there was obviously some oil in my speaker and microphone. Turned it off, have liberally sprayed the mic and speaker with electronics cleaner many times.
All is well, except the microphone does not appear to work during a phone call.
What puzzles me, it picks up fine if I record video. I have a messenger app called WhatsApp, and if I record a voice message (and yell) it can be heard ever so faintly. Phone calls, text to speech text messaging, voice searches via Google, none seem to work.
Can anyone shed any advice on this? Has anyone opened one up? I've dissected and repaired a couple Samsung phones and an LG G4, so I'm not terrified of opening it up if I can get the correct screwdrivers and the mic can be replaced or cleaned better.
But since video picks up fine, I'm now not sure that that is the issue. Are there multiple mics? Are there different sensitivity settings for different functions?
Does it sound like I should pursue further cleaning, or simply a software reset, or a hardware replacement. FWIW an email is in to Moto about cost of repair, but if I don't have to send it in it would be great.
