My Nexus 6 was rooted and has an unlocked bootloader. I recently removed root but havent locked the bootloader back.
Is it okay to update without bricking or going into any bootloops on my phone?

Also, all content on my phone needs to be backed up in order to not lose anything right?

Ive only updated once on all of my phones.
lol.

How did you unroot? and how are you planning to update?
If you update using the full OTA (from the google developers site), it should update (ADB sideload). But if you get the incremental update pushed to your phone, that will usually fail if your system partition is not completely unchanged. (I know that some users reported getting the full OTA pushed to their device, and that would work ok).

Rooting, and then unrooting may still leave the system partition 'modified' - depending on how you unrooted.

How large is the OTA size? If it is over 600MB, that is likely the full OTA. Else, it is the incremental

Backup - while it should not be required for an OTA, is always a safe thing to perform. I'd highly recommend a backup.

If you have been following the N6 for a while this will come as no surprise. The unexplained delay with the Nougat update landing via OTA screams volumes.

Personally I never expected the .1 to land on my N6. But I don't see it as a problem as I have my phone running as well as it ever has and setup perfectly. Could not be any happier with my N6 ATM, it still performs fantastically with whatever I throw at it and Im a power user. :)

The only sad thing is, that this was my first Nexus device and I was intending to jump straight onto the next model. Sadly google spun the bottle and it landed on the iPhone spot and we lost the Nexus brand.

Now I must play a waiting game as I do not see any phone that compares to my N6 in terms of specs, OS or availability of security updates or OS updates. o_O

Google says Yes - https://blog.google/products/android/sweet-update-nougat-android-711/

"Today, and over the next several weeks, the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One) will get an over the air (OTA) software update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat."

Yea that's what prompted my message above. I swear I read last week it would NOT get 7.1.1 because it's not 64 bit.

Meh whatever, I have to rock this phone til there's no rock left in it, so ....
