CAT S60 battery life issue with 6.0.1 (Wifi drain)

Thank you for the tips and I am sure they will help someone else, but IMO they should not have to be done.
I certainly agree that it should not be necessary. But giving up on full functionality because of principle seems a little silly, doesn't it? Then you're left with an RMA, or acceptance of a fixable issue. Also keep in mind the phone MIGHT actually be faulty.

The whole battery issue is a little unpredictable, and not the general rule. I know 2 other people with the S60, one is a co-worker, who both goes 3 days between charges - out of the box. It seems every phone has its own life.

For instance, if I open FLIR and then just minimize or turn off the screen, the phone will noticeably heat up and eat battery really fast. I have to manually close the app. Do you guys get this?

Yes. But then I close down programs as I finish with them.

Interesting to see the only 'visible' Bullit/Cat contributor hasnt been seen since for last post in August.

Guess Ive just been lucky. I can squeeze 3 days out of a charge with 4G without restricting any background data, with heavier usage than most here have reported. I haven't seen or owned a phone that can match that, but then again, I doubt any of my peers optimize their phones at all. If I had light usage, as some of you report, I'd probably go 5 days between charges.

EDIT: I meant to add, that this battery life is since I added Greenify. So I'll eat crow when I said earlier on that I didn't think Greenify would do anything. It's added a day of battery life to my phone, and I haven't even bothered to enable all the features through adb.

I uninstalled a couple apps the other day and got rid of the wifi lock.
Took my phone off of charge this morning, barely used it, and realized at lunch time that it had burned through 10% of the battery because it's been wakelocked since I unplugged it when I work up.
Really pisses me off. I can see why some of you guys are getting worn out on this thing. I didn't pay for mine... but if I had spent $600 US, I'd really be annoyed over the wifi/wake locks.

Lmao. Today's unnecessary battery drain is brought to you by another wifi lock. I literally haven't even used the wifi since yesterday morning, and I charged the phone last night. The wifi has been turned off the entire time, scanning is disabled, etc. It's like the phone is purposely sabotaging its own battery life. So there goes a day's worth of battery, gone.

It is really apparent to me that the wifi on my phone slaughters the battery. With my old HTC, I would usually hop on wifi at home when using the web. Not so with this phone. I prefer to use LTE, even if it's slower, because I feel like every time I turn on wifi (or a stupid wifi lock occurs) it melts the battery.

Had a wakelock the other day, that I broke with power save mode, and still managed to get three days out of the charge. Took the phone off the charger this morning, switched on wifi to download an mp3, and then changed my mind and switched it off immediately, and downloaded the MP3 over LTE. It was on for such a short time, it didn't even have time to connect to a network.

Glanced at my phone three hours later, wifi had been locked on the entire time, and ate 10% of the battery. Put the phone in power save mode and rebooted, and that seems to have taken care of it.

I don't want to see this thread die.
I have tried everything you all have suggested with very little improvement. My problem is Google Play Services. It wakes up the phone in my pocket every few minutes. I don't have a good screenshot to post because of all the charging and resets. But Google Play Services is the highest consumer. Out of a three hour period my phone is awake-screen off for 45 minutes. It's consuming g 6-10 percent battery in that time frame. It can be disabled and that fixes my battery drain. But my contacts all disappear with it disabled.
My question is how do I keep my contacts on my phone with Google Play Services disabled? An even better question is will there ever be a permanent fix for this issue?

Cat S60 6.0.1 owner in Detroit on Cricket. Having battery drain issues with Android OS and WiFi using up a lot of battery as well (Even with WiFi off and disabled in the location services).

Booted into safe mode (power off, power on, then hold volume down until phone powers on) and now I've gone an hour and a half and haven't dropped a percentage in battery yet (after taking a five minute call and taking a few pictures on the standard camera too). If 2 hours gives me 1% standby usage, I should get 4+ days which is what I expect, but am not getting.

I've noticed that Google Maps keeps asking to use WiFi for improved location accuracy (Why?!?!?!?!) so that is my current suspect, though I will be looking into wakelock issues to narrow it down. This is really annoying.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem straight out of the box. Emailed Cat Support (UK support is very slow but after a week they replied) I was told to back up and reset my phone and when it started to deselect the location accuracy setting in the google set up menu. Apparently if enabled it uses wifi, gps and bluetooth all the time even when its switched off - and doesn't even give you a notification thats its active.

I have had a conversation with Cat support in the US today and they have decided that my phone is possibly faulty and have told me to send it back for warranty repair. My new issues are that it has (after the latest update 2 days ago) gone down to 5% battery within 8hrs of being fully charged...and the FLIR camera now seems to strobe a lot on the screen - and is pretty much useless in the dark. Cat said that my repair would take up to 21 days so I got in touch with Amazon where I purchased it and I will have a brand new Cat S60 arriving on my doorstep at some point tomorrow. I'll keep you updated as to how the new one fairs.

Charged mine last night, nothing was activated. Battery at 100%, gets up this morning 95% battery.

Also thermal camera is behaving weirdly, temps are whey off, and screen is not happy, constantly flashing as you say

Have you done the latest update? I'v literally got my new one on charge and am currently downloading all my apps...set it up using tap and go so hopefully it won't import any bad settings. Downloaded Greenify last night after reading about it on this forum yesterday. Charged it at 19:00hrs...woke up to 95% battery this morning with it saying 95% battery remaining....wifi use 5%. Emptied the Caches yesterday and its saying nothing else has drained the battery. Phone told me 3 days left first thing...after an hour it told me 2 days left.

Hopefully the new one won't be as bad...i'm currently debating whether to install the latest software update as its on my screen saying click to install.

This time I have deselected any google location services on the initial set up. So fingers crossed will see if theres any major differences in battery life.

I'm running Dual sim, so maybe that will have an impact on battery life too.

I love this phone, its already saved a life (work on the ambulance and found an unconscious pt with it) I really hope that this new phone solves the issues.

If only they had built wireless charging into the phone...what a revelation that would have been.

One thing I have noticed is the screen on this one isn't as sensitive as the other one (thank god - i could use the screen with my finger about 3mm from it without touching it)

Yes u/g beginning of the week. to be honest I've not had battery problems, but then, Im currently working from home, so apart from BT to the speakers and wifi to steam the radio station, it's not getting much use.

Although I use use the Thermal camera, for my work. I've always closed apps after use, a good habit to get into as it sure gets hot if you leave the Thermal camera running in the background.

As for wireless charging, you'd have thought that would have been, top of the list.

I'v suggested it to them for future generations of the phone...for a waterproof phone what is the weak point? Port covers...if you didn't have to undo them every time to charge the phone the chances of water ingress due to an ill fitting or damaged port cover are significantly reduced.

Well I pressed the button...its just updated to the latest version of the Marshmallow software...lets see if the FLIR Camera strobes this time. Fingers crossed it doesn't!

So...I'v been really careful and selected what can and can't access my location and Wifi. I have downloaded all my apps, paired my LG Watch R. Done all the updates for my phone and cleared the caches. Just checked my phone...considering its fresh out the box and has only had one charge (I'm assuming that after a few charges it will work out that my phone will last longer)

Looks like I might be on to a winner ;)

That's appalling
That'll be because its first charge....and hasn't got enough Data to calculate how long it will actually last...it generally takes a few days for it to do the math and work it out accurately...as you can see from the last screenshot the picture/estimation has changed already ;)

Happy new year for all!
Sorry for my poor english, i dont speak too good..

I have a CatS60 and i have not problem with the akku life.. I charge only 1 times in a week and if i look it now : 36% - 4 days left. I use it for hard work, 2 sims, daily 1-2 hours speak time, 30-40 calls, sms, mails. etc.
I think the problem is not with the phone self, it have a basis android version and Bullit develop only the hardware, he customize not the firmware for phone.
Google is the sinner for this huge akku-use, he want all know about you, if you block the many google apps, background transfers, etc., you can win more akku time.
With this setting if i charge to 95%, the phone shows me 8 days left (not only for cat, but for all my android phones):
-only 2 G on both sims, if you need mobile data, switch manual to LTE
-blocking, deleting all google apps what you not need, music, movie, clock, calendar, etc. The wake-up clock used my battery life 50% on 1 night!
-search other free apps for substitute, other photo gallery, camera app, etc. but dont google, what send your data for servers, all times when you swich on the wifi.
-switch off background transfers, auto-sync with gmail, contacts (make it manual if you need), switch akku-save mode on
-close always the apps manual after use with the right button
-switch off screen rotation, if its on, the sensor eating your akku
-i have a matte protector on the screen, better for navigation in car and the touch sensitivity is much better

Its a very good phone, i have problem only with the camera quality and the app toolbox, i think this app is a backdoor from Bullit to phone, i hope later with a root i can delete it.

Hello,
just wanted to thank you for this helpful thread. I had similar problems with battery drain on my S60. From time I went to sleep, let's say 22:00 (100%) till next day 06:00, battery dropped on 65% in airplane mode??!
Greenifly helped a lot, also suggestions to delete AVG and location on apps reduced significantly battery drain.
I believe that now is even better than when I bought it.
From yesterday 22:00 airplane mode till today 06:00 and then WiFi/4G few calls, mails and it is still on 90%.
I'm happy again.
:)

I've noticed, post update, that there will be times when my phone starts to get warm, and the battery has dropped several percent, and "wifi" shows up in the battery usage, but there's no green bar to actually indicate its usage.

I literally never turn on my wifi, and don't think I've given anything permission to do so, so it's like I'm still getting random wifi activation/ locks, but the actual usage time isn't getting recorded.

all right, so here is what I have figured out and it hasn't done it since. All I did was put my phone in airplane mode for the cat S60 and restarted the phone. After that I turned it back on as normal turn it off of airplane mode and it worked just fine I no longer have WiFi drain. It is 1 o'clock in the afternoon I pulled my phone off the charger or round seven or eight o'clock and I'm at 82% as of now. Used to be I'm at 53 percent. But before I did that I did also make sure and go through all this wifi settings and turn everything off including the VPN the tethering and everything else. Hope that works for somebody else too.

I will have to say that tomorrow I will turn my wifi back on when I'm at home and then when I go back to work on Tuesday I will see when I turn it off if I have WiFi drain again. But as of now I have not touch the Wi-Fi and turned it back on and I haven't seen it in the percentage used at all.
