If you have a problem or issue with a particular app, it's often worth emailing the developers about it. Be polite, tell them what you think is wrong and the problem you're having, include your device, make, model, Android version, carrier etc. and if necessary, logs.
Snapchat is a pretty miserable experience for me, too.
The worst problem is when I unlock the phone, open snapchat, and go to take a snap it often freezes on the camera. Then my screen goes blank and the only way to exit is completely powering off my device by holding the power button for 15+ seconds.
This happened to me over the weekend and unluckily coincided with a software update. So infuriating. I wanted to take a snap, but instead, got locked out of my phone for 30 minutes while my software updated.
