Posting on Chrome on my HTC 10 I got the edit/cancel pop-up in the middle of a post I was trying to edit. Couldn't edit it until I refreshed.

They claimed this was intended behavior but I don't think they actually understood what the problem is, since I can't understand why that would be intended.

Yeah, I have that too and it's not pleasant. It'd also be nice to have an exit option on some of these popup windows especially when mobile. Having to randomly click somewhere else on the screen is not a good way to go for mobile use. Example of this (if you can even find it), try to find the option to make a new thread. By that I mean the big blue "create new thread" box. Once you've clicked that and are in the post making process, now let's say you want to stop altogether and cancel out. There's no little "x" in the upper corner to exit the active window (preferred method for mobile). There's no cancel option either. The only way to exit that is to click outside of the active window which often encompasses most/all of a mobile screen so you end up nearly stuck with these floating windows which are designed more for PC use.

On Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 I have noticed that a lot of changes I make do not include an automatic refresh. I have to do a manual refresh for them to be displayed in their most recent state.

Can you cite some examples I can show?

Not sure I do. But, the example ibt just gave I understand. I have noticed that on desktop, not tried yet on mobile. Can you cite one more example I can show?

I have a pretty big problem ...
  1. http://androidforums.com/find-new/15452485/posts ... doesn't list new unread posts in the device areas.
  2. I am not allowed to set ... Android Devices ... as a favorite.
  3. How can I list unread threads in these device areas?
  4. If I must return to watching ... Android Devices ... how can I set it as a favorite?
(@Unforgiven and @mikedt entered some posts in one of these favorite areas to help test this problem.)

... Thom

I can confirm the same thing. I think this stems back to the issue that device sections are not really forums, as XenForo sees them. They're channels.

You can set channels as a favourite, and they'll show up among your favourite forums in the "Favourites" list, but they won't show up when performing searches for watched devices. E.g:

androidforums.com/find-new/posts?watched=1

There are some other problems relating to channels vs. forums:

1) There's a typo when "UnFavouriting" channels:
2) The UI relating to forums use the terminology "Watch" and channels use the terminology "favourite". I assume that "favourite" is what we want it to say in all instances, given that watched forums are listed in the "Favourites" section of the main navigation pane.

You can set channels as a favourite

FWIW I spent about 4 hours on this issue this morning. It is the fulcrum upon which my periodic monitoring is balanced. I can find no way to set a channel (Android Devices) as a a favorite. I have never seen the screens like those you posted for a channel. Is this perhaps a Moderator-only capability?

Like this?

^^Yes, that's what the edit issue looks like that several people have commented on. Once you've clicked the edit post option, a new floating window comes up which contains the words "edit" and "report". As can be seen in the above pic, that floating window hovers directly over the edit field itself. So we then need to again press the edit option, often more than once, in order to clear that floating window out of the way and reveal the edit field. Then there's another click/press involved in order to actually enter the edit field and bring up our phone's keyboard to type.

When viewing a device channel click the star, options will then pop up:

Thank you for help in claryfing this. I was confused and was in turn being confusing.

I assumed that ...
CHANNEL was something like Android Devices
AREA was something like Motorola Droid Turbo 2

It apparentl is ...
FORUM is something like Android Devices
CHANNEL is something like Motorola Droid Turbo 2

The problem is that when this CHANNEL Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is made a favorite it is ignored. It is in the list of favorites but doe not do anything.

The temporary workaround would be to make the FORUM Android Devices a favorite.

I can find no way to make the FORUM Android Devices a favorite.

I don't see the favourite icon on Android Devices either. It appears this is because Android Devices isn't actually a forum, now. It used to be, prior to the new site UI, which is why the workaround was possible. But now, if you look at the URL it isn't a forum. Rather, it's a list of channels:

Android Devices:
http://androidforums.com/devices/list

Android Lounge (as an example of a real forum):

19. Here's the issue.

I had Android Devises set as a favorite and was told that I could now use the device channels instead. I removed the Android Devices as a favorite.

Since I cannot use the channels as favorites at this time can someone who has the authority please make Android Devices a favorite for my account?

It is important for others to know that making a channel a favorite at this time simply doesn't work.

Thank you.

Oddly the other URL for Android Devices does have a forum URL, but you still can't favorite it:

Thom can you post a reply to my test thread here:

I had a look at how adding a favourite forum works. It appears that you only need to append /watch to the end of the URL for that forum:

If you visit this URL, you can add it as a favourite again:

http://androidforums.com/forums/android-devices.3543/watch

Thank you.

That is exactly what I needed for the interim.

It is now set as a favorite and my old process of listing recent changes is working agin.

This has taken this issue from painful to unfortunate.

Thanks again.

EVERYONE --- do not make a channel a favorite at this time.

It is important for others to know that making a channel a favorite at this time simply doesn't work.
After testing I'm able to reproduce this when watching for new posts.

1. Favorite a device channel.
2. Wait for a new post in that channel.
3. Check Watched Channels/Forums.
4. New post in device channel does not show up.

20. The new names for things are simply bad ... the names used externally should be in tune with what visitors think.
  • Android Forums is a collection of Forums.
  • What is currently called a Channel should be called a Forum.
  • What is currently called a Forum with Channels should be called an Area or Group.
Android Devices would be a Group.
Motorola Droid Turbo 2 would be a Forum.

With the current names as we go forward we are going to coastally be clarifying what a Channel is and what a Forum is.

Why? The visitors don't care. To them each is a Forum.

Btw to all - also talked about Round vs Square avatars - they will be staying round.
I can live with that, so can I suggest this for waaaay down at the bottom of the punch list to have icon indicating that you have posted in a thread show the same way as the main avatar (i.e. both round)?

It is not working for me, mobile Chrome.

edit: it's not working for me on the pc either. (chrome browser)

Side question, is Android Questions forum and "ask a question" as a non member gone altogether now? Return to Android Lounge for general type Android questions?

Android Lounge still requires being logged in to post.

Android Questions still exists and you can post as a guest, but I don't see a way to access it with the current UI:
http://androidforums.com/forums/android-questions.2400/

@Phases is the "Can't find a topic, +Create Thread" section supposed to link to Android Questions instead?

Android Questions is for now hidden. Currently disabled for guests, and the banner does point to Android Lounge on purpose. This feature is to be reworked.
