Hello,
couple years ago I purchased a M8 Amlogic box, and use it near daily. I have trouble operating android. I want to learn how to take control of this box and get the most out of it.

SPECS:
Model K200
Version 4.4.2
Build KOT49H.20150113
Kernel 3.10.33

Show box is primary use and about the only thing that I can make it do correctly. I have also wondered if this box is secured from data tracking/ spyware? Blocking ads would be a great start.
So, does firmware and rooting give me complete control? Would like to see more control and flexibility on my box as it seems I cannot change much of anything the way I purchased it.

Frankly, if your box is working OK and it is important to you, I think you'd be mad to tinker about with it.

These boxes don't handle being messed about with very well. A lesson I have learned the hard way!

Why not just buy a new updated box... or at least get a backup for when you screw things up.

What are you using the box for apart from the Kodi app?

If you are only using the box for Kodi, then I wouldn't risk any updates of any kind especially as it's working just fine.

Don't forget - no software or firmware updates will significantly improve performance. You'll always be handcuffed by the hardware.

If you're mainly using "free" illegal pirate things like Show Box, etc, I wouldn't put anything personal and private on it. Things like that are monetized from data mining you and showing ads. And the unknown manufacturers who make these boxes don't particularly care about you.

IMO if you want something you can truly control, trust, and make it yours, try a Raspberry Pi 3, rather than one of those cheapo unknown things, like M8, MXQ, etc. That's what I've been using for a couple of weeks with Kodi on it. Bought a Raspberry Pi 3 with case in the UK, and brought it back to China with me. :thumbsupdroid:
