Thank you for help in claryfing this. I was confused and was in turn being confusing.

I assumed that ...
CHANNEL was something like Android Devices
AREA was something like Motorola Droid Turbo 2

It apparentl is ...
FORUM is something like Android Devices
CHANNEL is something like Motorola Droid Turbo 2

The problem is that when this CHANNEL Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is made a favorite it is ignored. It is in the list of favorites but doe not do anything.

The temporary workaround would be to make the FORUM Android Devices a favorite.

I can find no way to make the FORUM Android Devices a favorite.

... Thom

After testing I'm able to reproduce this when watching for new posts.

1. Favorite a device channel.
2. Wait for a new post in that channel.
3. Check Watched Channels/Forums.
4. New post in device channel does not show up.

Correct ... a favorite channel currently does not work.

... Thom

I was so very confused until right now. You are right! Will get fixed..

  1. Read / Unread thread differentiation is a bit harsh. It just seems to me that threads that are read could still be blue instead of black. The threads with unread content stand out enough being both bold and having the blue dot that navigates you to the first unread thread.

Fix will be applied in a minute. We darkened the black threads. So, they aren't the same color, but they are more similar and cut down on contrasting. It helps.

Getting better all the time IMO. I also hope more efforts on improving navigation are on the horizon.

Like what, as an example? We are trying to make navigation much easier which were under the impression were doing. Have you added your favorites? It's difficult to get with a site like this.. suggestions are welcome!

21. Home Page

I have to say it.

The Favorites section of the home page is bad. Imagine what it looks like with 33 buttons that have levels labels that are too long to fit on the button. It tills the screen with buttons.

What is needed here is two parallel lists of favorite names that are SORTED.

For me that would take up 16 lines.

Hey, thanks for the open offer. I've already mentioned it once earlier but the biggest hangup for me navigation-wise is that I'd like the forums tab up in the header to go to.. http://androidforums.com/forums/

I like having a page that I can easily browse all the available forums. Currently, this is done by using the menu dropdown > browse more. There are other ways to get there but that seems the most common.

Earlier you'd mentioned that the forums tab linked to "home" would make the most sense to people but I disagree on that. I think when people click on a forums tab, they expect to see the full list of available forums. I know I do anyway.

Also, I would very much love to see the site tree at the TOP of any given page instead of at the bottom where it currently resides. For example when typing this post, directly below me right now, I see...

Home > Forums > Android Forums Community > Site Updates & Announcements

Each of the locations in that tree are of course clickable links to hyperspace around the site in a faster way. That's how I've always navigated forums, this one and elsewhere as it's a huge time saver.

In short, there are times when I'd want to use the "Home" page which is custom tuned to my liking. I predict that I'll warm up to that more as time goes along. I also think many people who stick around here will eventually use that as potentially a primary launchpad.

But new(er) users who come here, I strongly believe, will be confused by the lack of a more traditional homepage which is found at http://androidforums.com/forums/ and it's not at ALL intuitive on how to get there. So I think a good happy medium solution to urge the use of the new "Home" launchpad while still providing a quick way back to comfort and expected results of a classic forum...is to link the "Forums" tab to go to http://androidforums.com/forums/.

Hmm. Some stuff to ponder for sure, thanks @iowabowtech .So, the forums link at the top originally DID link to /forums/, but we changed it because we kept naturally clicking it trying to get to the 'home' page of the site. So, it felt better to us.

That said, maybe we should see what more people say. Or, I'm willing to bet, we could make it a preference setting. We've done this before - but that might not be the best thing for me to request at this point. You should see our tasklist!

That as well as breadcrumbs, though, were and probably will continue to be a point of discussion for us. They're hard to get just right.

@Rob going to mention you on this one so you can chime in if you like.

Edit: Also, did you know you can start typing a forum name in the global search in the blue, it will autocomplete and you can click to navigate in?

@bcrichster looks like those links are no longer valid since it's looking for the All Things Root subforums which no longer exist. Here's the first one you posted:

http://androidforums.com/threads/boost-mobile-guide-q-a-myths-and-truths-about-knox.807188/

So they appear to have all been merged into the singular Galaxy S3 forum now. I'm not sure what is the best way to search these out. It took me a bit of digging and flipping through pages to find it. A separate search bar at the top each individual forum would be great. Perhaps it exists and I didn't see that.
