This is a Test kernel for Precedent Roms With Ext4 System Partitions Only!
I need people to test this kernel.
It seems to be running fine on my brothers Precedent, so here ya are, just please keep me posted on any issues or problems.
DISCLAIMER: Extremely low or higher than normal frequencies may freeze your phone. Especially high frequencies (such as those enabled in certain custom kernels) have a risk of shortening the life of your phone. If your phone freezes, just yank out the battery. I CAN NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THIS KERNEL MAY DO TO YOUR PHONE.
I have made a kernel that has been overclocked to 944Mhz (thanks to trenchkato), CPU Governor set to ondemand(stock) this should help battery life, I/O Scheduler set to deadline(stock), and with Hroarks integrated /data to sd-ext.
(This will only work if you have your sdcard partitioned with a fat partition and a ext4 partition. This will mount your sd-ext as your internal data partition).
Use SetCPU, Antutu CPU Master Or Voltage Control to set your cpu speed.
Installation:
1. Make sure your Rom is working and your phone is formatted to ext4.
(Look for lost+found in your /system directory)
2. Reboot into Recovery mode
3. Go to >advanced>wipe Dalvik>yes
4. Mount SD-ext, and hit back
5. Flash the respective .zip
6. Reboot
**I cant stress enough, Make sure you have a new CWM backup before flashing this kernel**
Thanks to: Hroark13, zcop, Koumajutsu, thachtunganh, Shabby and Interdepth.
Special Thanks To:Trenchkato, for leading me to some good info on how to do this and helping me big time along the way.
I've got it running on a gingerbread ROM, no issues so far. Frequencies over 900 MHz make this little phone much snappier! I'll be testing another ROM tomorrow.
Could we get the minimum frequency set to under 100 MHz; CPU MASTER won't go lower than 120 MHz.

Use voltage control from the market. It will allow you to set it lower.
The kernel gets stuck on boot animation with CM7, anyone else have this issue?
Update: Voltage Control also is unable to take the clock below 120 MHz. It isn't a huge deal, I was just hoping while using "on demand" power settings that I could keep the clock even lower for battery life.

First, my kernel at this point will NOT go to 988mhz. The max is 944mhz, no matter what.
From multiple fresh installs of AreaROM 2.3 with the OC kernel applied, all apps capable of reporting the CPU frequency report 988 MHz. This is not me trying to "stir the pot," I'm just repeating what the apps on the phone say. Do I need to get screen shots posted up?

No. Thats just odd. I have the same kernel on my Prevail and it maxes out at 944. It must be something in the Ramdisk. I'll look into it.
ok this is what i got. the prececedent running on AreaRom 3.0 with these kernel bookin it at 988mhz. i was using cpu master but only to set it to performance while benching other than that its default. ive had a few other with this issue also. i actually retried this kernel again a few days ago and it made it almost all day then froze on me.

Try different settings until you find a good setup. I own a Prevail, I do not own a Precedent, but my brother does, so I have been testing this on his phone and have not run into any of these issues on his, this is why the op says its still in test stages. I will however look into it.
Edit: try to be a bit more desriptive. When it froze, what was the I/O set at, minimun freq, what you were doing, was your phone hot? I need to know these things to help isolate the problem.
I also cant be anticipate how this will work with different Roms and hardware. These phones are made in batches, as is all the hardware, and every batch run about the same within a certain tolerance. But we have noticed with the Prevails that sometimes those small differences are enough to cause problems with certain phones and not others.

To be honest it may just be my phone cause a couple of guys on AA51 are running it without issues. I'm also running a beta aosp 2.3.7 rom if idk if that may affect it.
Just gonna go ahead and confirm some earlier posts...
I am running AreaROM2.3 on my Precedent, I just flashed this kernel and it worked. The first boot was really, really slow. It caused me to think it was boot-looping. I pulled my battery, rebooted, and everything went smooth. AnTuTu's CPU Master confirms that my max setting is 944mhz, I pushed it down it 925mhz due to an earlier post from an AreaROM2.3 user claiming that 925 was the best setting for AreaROM. So far so good, but this is only the first hour. I've flashed several ROMs before, never tried a different kernel. I tryed using Titanium BackUp to restore apps, i'm an idiot. I did a ClockworkMod Restore after giving up on Titanium (takes too long) and everything works great. Got my apps and settings back, but kept the overclocked kernel. I should've just done that first. We'll see how it performs over the next days/weeks..
Thanks,
-Cj

Reason: New restore method, the RIGHT way....
The first week was good. Im runnin Arearom 3.0 Beta. But then i started getting random reboots and my app drawer would freeze. This was at 900 max and 98 minimum... So i reflashed AR 3.0 and am trying the tried and true area kernel. I may try this kernel one more time at some point...
Ok so I've been using this for a little bit now, started at 925mhz like my previous post states, worked good for awhile but rebooted twice, so i pushed it down to 900ish, worked good for awhile but froze when I loaded a game ("Cut the rope"). I pushed it down again to 888, and once again it froze while it was in my pocket. This has all been happening over a couple days, it ran for hours in between freezes/reboots. I pushed it down to 844 today, we'll see how it goes from here. if i push it down anymore there will be no reason for me to use this kernel. Anyone have any ideas as to what i may, or may not, be doing wrong? I set my minimum to 120mhz, my governor is ONDEMAND. I tryed ONDEMANDX setting one of those times it froze. I've been watching the temperature and it hasn't really got hot. I think 84F is the highest temperature I've seen.

Awesome job The~Skater~187,I couldn't get Genocide 187_2.6.35.07 to work on my phone.
So I try you newer version and it works fine,In fact after installation my clocks were at 988MHz.But I lowered them down to 900MHz. Thanks a lot The~Skater~187 again.
