Smile Coolpad 5860e rooting

I bought a coolpad, I know.

So anyways...

I've seen a supposed guide for the 5860e to root but it does not work. Besides that it's in Chinese.
dashidotcom
I installed the adb drivers from Coolpad's website.
coolpadamericasdotcom

I tried SuperOneClick v2_3_3 just for giggles, no joy. I'm assuming it has some sort of hidden bootloader. The computer (win7) does not detect the phone to load a driver in recovery. Just can't grasp that one can someone explain? In any case there does not seem to be anything to support rooting or unlocking it anywhere. I also tried various gingerbreak versions.

I emailed Coolpad's support and got the following response.
Quote:
Hi Mr. *******,

Currently we do not have a process to Root our device. I have checked back with our Engineering team and we are also unable to provide this information.

I apologize for the inconvenience,
Reverse Logistics Department
Hey, it was worth a shot.

Just want to share what I've found.

One update.
I followed a post that explained I had the wrong driver loaded. The solution was to manually select the drivers in google's android sdk to update the coolpad stock drivers. Sure enough, fastboot can be accessed but it's locked of course. oem unlock does not work, error message is oem unlock failed <remote failure>. So back to square one.

On another note,

Hello Mr. xxxxxx,

I have discussed this with our engineering department and we are unable to provide this information as well.

I apologize for the inconvenience again,
Reverse Logistics Department
I asked for a rom dump.

Can't say I didn't try.

Run "ls -l /dev" and past the output somewhere and I'll tell you if it even has a chance of working.

the pune has already said what needs to be done to check. Run ls -l /dev and give him to output. You can do with with a terminal emulator, or adb.

Nope, Poot won't work on that one. It has to be a snapdragon chip and qualcomm kernel with lots of /dev/msm* thingies.

has the stock rom been released yet? im sure if we remove some of the locks on it and put it in an update.img we could confuse the program in installing superuser and unlocking the fastboot, etc etc etc. Possible?

Default Lets root this thing.

I just got this phone and have found zero about rooting this thing. I use to develop a bit for the LG Optimus M when I had that phone. There were alot of us working on stuff for that particular model. Is anyone interested in helping me get this thing rooted?

Things I've discovered thus far:
I couldn't get a key combination to boot into a factory recovery but I did manage to get some sort of recovery screen using adb.

Code:
adb reboot recovery
There are no menus, it simply shows the android guy with the yellow triangle exclamation point. I would assume it checks for some sort of update.zip on the root of the sdcard...but I could be wrong.

If you hold the volume down key and power it on it says:
Code:
entering lte rf test mode....
then a simple white screen with test that says "Calibrating, please wait....".
I waited.
It never finished whatever it was doing as I removed the battery and rebooted it with no ill effect.

If you hold the volume up key and power on it says:
Code:
======Enter VIA USB======
I can only assume this is referring to recovery mode which I already covered.

I've went to Coolpad's American support page and requested the source for the current android build as it should be released under GPL but I doubt that will get anywhere unless others also request this.

Any help, feedback, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Reppard

UPDATE:

To get into recovery press and hold volume up and volume down. Then press and hold the power button. Once you see the droid press the Home button to reveal the menu. Can't flash anything from this yet as it fails verification. We will need a custom recovery. If we can get fastboot working for this phone then we can get a dump of the recovery and possible a whole rom dump!

Just noticed there is an All Things Root section. If any mod paying attention could be kind enough to move this there it would also be greatly appreciated.

Just want to let you know I am watching this thread. I do not have the knowhow to actually hack phones, I'm one of those guys that roots phones and installs custom ROMs on them for kicks. I've had my share of Android devices, but like I said, I'm not a dev...

I just want to show some love for this thread and any devs working on it at this point. here I go with my cheerleading flag. Rah rah. xD

Glad someone is getting around to doing it.

Yeah, I bought it because of the larger screen (I actually have a reason for this: I'm high partial legally blind, bigger screen is easier to see)

I suffered on processor power, quality of screen, and tried to take the Coolpad back to MetroPCS for a full refund, but I was two minutes over the maximum talk time, and the guy wouldn't do it.

Uh...

RAH RAH RAH!

:P

Don't know how much I'll be able to do. I haven't seen a exploit for 2.3.7 yet. I'm going to download the source to gingerbreak and see if I can make some sense of it and maybe tweak it a bit.

I at least am certainly glad that attention (even if a little) is being brought to this device. From what I understand this device did not get very good reviews, mainly because of what you lose in hardware. I hope there is something that can be done to at least root it and get Clockworkmod working on it.

Good luck guys!

Edit:

Reppard I also had an Optimus M with Cyanogenmod 7. I sold it to a friend because he loved how much better the phone preformed with that ROM. He loves it.

Ready to work:

Guru informed:
1, ROOT definitions: the so-called "root" is to achieve maximum permissions of the operating system. Just like Windows administrator privileges, like, is requiring highest privileges in order to install or run some programs, such as Android optimized master system weight loss function requires root privileges to use.
2, gain ROOT privileges advantage: after gaining root permissions, to remove embedded software with his will, sort memory, optimizing systems, some models brush ROM (the system) also requires root permissions.
3, about the warranty issue: phone after gaining root permissions, that is understood to be illegal for mobile phones to the highest permissions, have the potential to cause instability and other problems of the mobile phone. So, after the root problem is manufacturers official defined as man-made damage, is theoretically no warranty. Therefore prior to gain root privileges, you need to consider. Masters brush machine does not assume any responsibility.

Scope tutorial:
Cool 5,860

Download:
Annex 1: Click here to download- (V2.3.031.P1.120103.5860). zipAnnex 2: Click here to download-SystemApp_Removerv)v4.26_汉化版.apk
Start:

Gain ROOT steps:
First step: Download attachment
Step two: once the download is complete, extract more than 160 m of the package open to on your computer, locate the directory download_v9.01.27 on the computer, open a document assembly service ***.exe, as shown in the figure window appears

When the software is in use, please close your phone, the phone's SD card removed.
The third step: is the key, many people don't make it clear. I also tried a number of times. Attention: Please do this:
Take your phone (make sure is the shutdown), press and hold the side "on volume" key and hold, and then on the USB cable to connect the phone and computer (the order is important, do not even USB cable). Doing so will appear as soon as the legendary green small rectangular pattern, in front of ROOT words. This has occurred, the software can only be used above.
The fourth step: ROOT+ appears after the Green rectangular pattern, point that software above "start" when the software will stop working, work status will appear above. If the status appears in the text below "failure" does not go on. But I did not encounter a failure, OK. (If it fails will be here without first shutting down the mobile phone set in the "development", and check the USB debug status? I check off a shutdown of is selected, so I do not know whether it is important to first check, we might add. )
Next is, with software run to several 100%, this during, phone will automatically switch machine, will some text appears and so on, we to do of is waiting it processing finished all of things, has been to software is no longer has changes of prompted text, and phone normal power has (I set of power password still effective, just address book full didn't has, installed of software also no has). Normal boot, phone is like a machine again, come with a variety of programs, and two software, the SUPERUSER and RE managers. If you see these, you ROOT has been successful!

Briefly the next how to remove software
1, SUPERUSER software running, it will RE Manager software with the highest privileges. RE Manager Explorer similar to the computer, only the directory and file name, you do not know which software is. So rookie will not use this, we downloaded the second software must be installed. The software downloaded on your computer, then you need to copy it to the phone. Method: turn off the phone, remove the battery, then loaded on the SD card. Then turn on the phone, use a USB cable to connect computers and cell phones, hand opportunities pop up, such as using USB, click on connect. Then turn on the computer the "my computer", you can find "removable disk", this is the content of the SD card on the phone. The second software download "system program uninstall" copy to SD card root directory.
2, turn on the phone the phone comes with the "file management" software, SD cards can be seen above, click to open the SD card directory, can be found in the following "system program uninstall Manager", click on the software, you are prompted to install information, direct installation, installation was successful in a green garbage can logo appears on your phone.
3, the installation is successful, click on the Green trash can software, you are prompted to give the highest permissions, agreed. So open this software can delete operation. In the software interface of the bottom click on "system", all programs will appear in the next screen, flip screen you can see all kinds of programs, each program has a small icon. You to small icons to determine which software it is. Caution, cannot determine the software must not be deleted! Has a method is, you first note you want to delete the software on the phone icon, a record 2-3, and then find the same icon in the software, find the deleted after, never wrong! Found click file will ask you do you want to delete, click Yes to delete.
4, I would not have got the computer software must be removed, including QQ and so on, I would like to download the software you want to use, and then installed on the SD card, and space savings on the phone. Following is the software that I think must be retained: information, dial, contacts, desktop, call history, speed dial, Internet, alarm clock, calendar, day-wing space, camera, setting, customer service, back up audio, cool, Mobile hotspots, media library, calculator, file manager, Notepad, wireless upgrade, attribution, SOPERUSER,RE Manager, System programs to uninstall. Will they be able to see on the desktop software and, of course, a desktop media player software, you do not see. Wing space you can download popular software, customer service can go online and search calls. These green bold software is essential to the deletes will affect the use of cell phones. I keep other non-green character display software, play by ear, delete I cannot guarantee does not affect the cell phone feature, I have not deleted. You can also add some of your own experience.
OK! is to download the software you're trying to be the next, remember, it must be installed on the SD card

FYI tryied to download files but couldnt so maybe some one here can find else where.
Packages (V2.3.031.P1.120103.5860). zip, SystemApp_Removerv)v4.26_汉化版.apk

this not a 100% not sure if its even going to work so please attempt this at your own risk

hope this helps us out.

OMG, I think it was the Gingerbreak exploit source that I looked over before...my brain about exploded, LOL . The C-code for the vold timing exploit was pretty "out there".

Yep, here's the site where I got it from: C-skills: yummy yummy, GingerBreak! and they do say:

Good Morning, I found another website which supposedly has a root for it. I haven't had the balls to try it. Any body:

That root method is known to be fake. There was a different website that someone copied it from. It was supposedly a name change from a guide to an HTC phone. I can't exactly remember where... I think someone on xda tried that method and it didn't work

The scary thing about this link is the fact that it says P1, which I have to assume is referencing the Hardware Model, if you at About Phone in the android settings our phone is Hardware Model P4....I'm not ballsy enough to try and push this on my phone with out a proper nandroid backup and someway to restore it...if we had that we wouldnt need to flash that thing in the first place

No worries. I didn't mean to sound d insulting. Sometimes I lack social grace. Not trying to shut anyone down.

I definitely appreciate everyone who is working on this root. It would make my life a lot easier to get to battery stats lol

Has anyone looked hard at perhaps a file signature "spoof"... ?buffer overflow or the like, Seriously this is getting personal at this point.
