There are currently TWO versions of recovery methods (if that's the right choice of words) for the VZW Razr, bootstrap and safestrap. Of the two, I would recommend safestrap (current build 1.08) as it has more "safety" features to prevent bootloops, etc. They both introduce a form of CWM (clockwork mod recovery). Since we have a locked bootloader we can't replace the recovery the same way that we would with an unlocked bootloader.
It all, IMO, comes down to if you will be tinkering or not. If yes, definitively pick a recovery. Safestrap is nice because you can backup your main system and use the second system to tinker (and can revert back to your main system when you want to).
