Ya there must be more to it then building a cwm recovery & flashing it otherwise there is other apps out there like flash image & even rom toolbox that will let you flash a recovery so if it was helpful i think they wouldve said, but i dont think it was

Depends what coverage area you are in. I had to pay extra to allow tethering, but i'll ask on the cricket forum i subscribe to.

Kinda Curious how the software operating systems setup on cricket like with VM / you have too use a app to tether does the cricket version have that tethering feature built in or do you have to use a app? It could be a overall diffrent software setup that may allow fastboot like canadian version of the Rise did / but bootloader was still locked, basically wondering if the software is easyer too tweak n get things done i know i wouldnt be much help with that phone because iam not a android rom hacker & deveper but if theres loose screws on one of the versions hopeing that we could all versions & carriers Benefit by it

No separate app required, but it blocks tethering by detecting packet data if you don't have the tethering option added to your account: 10$ gets you tether (wifi and usb) and an extra gig and a half of unthrottled data. I'll give fastboot a try when i have some time, but beyond that I'm useless. No pc and no Android background knowledge.

Always go for the dev site wherever possible.

Theres no such thing as useing the built in wifi tether for free, you can use quicksettings from playstore to unhide features built into our operating system like wifi hotspotting, then pay VM 5.00 exta a month & that feature will work but without paying 5.00 for that privelage to enable hotspot u cant use the built in feature of hotspotting it wont allow you,

Adding link cause theres alot of diffrent versions of quicksettings & all arnt the same

The App is free if you meant how to enable wifi hotspotting for free but to actually use the enabled wifi tether u need to pay VM or when u turn this feature on it will block hotspotting & say a message like your service provider blocked this,

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bwx.bequick

Good for non root users, but tested the app on my phone atleast quickettings had to stay installed, didnt on my old phone

Sorry, I removed your link. Basically the it was a scam. Its a template site, where they draw up a procedure for one phone and then just cut and paste a bunch of other phones with the same instructions.

First off, DO NOT USE ROM Manager! This is not a supported device and it will brick your phone. Period. Exclamation point, then another period for good measure

So I don't if any here looks at the hydro forum but some over there with a hydro on the cricket service said that cricket will let kyocera give them the bootloader so this might be the hope we have been looking for

We need to setup a bounty on XDA, as has been suggested previously. Are there any volunteers to do this among longtime AndroidForums members? I would feel better contributing to a fund managed by someone with some sort of history.

If no one else will do it, I would be willing to take on this role in early April. It would be great if someone else would step up sooner.

Probably SLIM to None or wont happen anytime soon. I wouldn't place a $1 bet on it.

Could we use safestrap to boot roms off the sd card? I used it once on a Motorola Atrix HD and it also has a locked bootloader.

if you had a low class of sd card, then yes, they generally recommend getting as high class of sd card as you can, but it's better than no custom Roms and better Rom's can make up the difference with better optimizations and overclocking.

I'm actually talking about it over in the hydro forums and I say our first move would be to contact the developers of safe strap and ask them if it could be ported to our devices, see if there's any requirements or limitations.

I found this app by some of the people on xda that make a tar file in system to bypass the locked bootloader for some devices was wondering if this is something that can be done for us

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pvy.CWMinstaler

Will come back too add picture of some info about the way it works too intrest some of our head adroid programmers here i know ive posted rather useless info basically in theroy & wild hopea but this actually sounds promising
However its not for our device but the info seemd to grab me as a real possiability
Theres a link to the xda site within the google play link ive posted towards bottom with pics

Adding link 2pic cause useing phone not pc too post

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=16hpz82&s=6

Xda info from playstore: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29561187

Too many arugments mean you have too many extra commands after rebooting. Try 'reboot download' instead.

That's only helpful if Kyocera does something themselves, the legislature can't get involved because bypassing a cryptographically signed bootloader unlocked without the manufacturers consent would be in direct violation of the DCMA. Such is life in America.

I'm pretty sure dmca has nothing to do with bootloaders, it's carrier unlocking without consent.

Actually it does, but I thought that they got rid of that exemption, what actually happened was that they let the temporary exemption for the bootloader remain, removed the temporary exemption for carrier unlocking and denied the temporary exemption for unlocking the bootloader on tablets. Talk about consistency, I can root my Nexus 4 phone but not my Nexus 7 tablet.

If it is now illegal to root and or unlock said devices. What kind of legal action can be taken for doing this? Or even against these websites that talk and give instruction how to do so? Sounds like it's all going down hill.

If you read the above post it specifically states that rooting phones is legal under a temporary exemption, sim unlocking to use it on another carrier as well as rooting tablets is an offense under DCMA. IANAL, but doing it yourself probably wouldn't trigger any legal action but those sites that offer to sim unlock your phone or jailbreak your iPad might run into problems.

I think that you'll find that the whole matter of tablets is a bunch of blogosphere hooey, started by one ill-informed Ars Technica writer, repeated ad nauseum. It's why our tablet rooting forums aren't going anywhere. There's no restrictions on it.

As for defeating bootloader cryptography, we do it on HTC phones quite often.

Carrier contracts with anti-rooting clauses have been found unconscionable by competent courts when challenged.

Hope this helps!

But HTC at least has an official way of unlocking the bootloader, S-Off is a different animal.

Right, HTCdev unlock doesn't defeat encrypted security, s-off does.
