Read it, understand it, ask questions, ask more questions, if you are unsure then don't do it. That said, if you follow the above instructions for the Dream you should be OK.

Any ideas if the upgrade to Sense UI for the Magic or the upgrade to 2.1 will include the ability to play Flash Video? They say it is available on the Hero / Sense device...
That is why I picked the Dream, but once I got the soft keyboard working on it, I find I can type just as fast on it as the hard keyboard. I find I use the soft keyboard more than the other now.
Had I known the Magic was the better of the two, I would have gone with that.

Motorola and Cliq will have Flash 10 support when they go for Android 2.1.
HTC has also joined up in Adobe Open source project to offer Flash.
Here is the reply I _finally_ got from LG. Sounds like HTC all over again.

@GreatBigDog01 LG Eve has approx 150-170mb on device & is shipped with 2GB SD card.
I'm fairly sure that I'm just being quoted the user available memory, I sent a tweet back asking if they are telling me total ram or user available ram. I'll post back with reply when I get one, took a couple of days for the last answer.
Rogers Update: HTC Dream to Magic Limited Time Upgrade
Hi Everyone:
Here are the details of the HTC Dream to Magic upgrade that Rogers announced Friday:
--Current Rogers customers who activated a new Rogers HTC Dream through Dec. 31, 2009 - either through upgrade or a new activation - may upgrade that device to an HTC Magic for a limited time.
--Upgrades must be done through Customer Care (1-888-Rogers1) or through Rogers.com (existing 3yr data plan required for online upgrades, instructions below). This special upgrade offer does not apply at retail.
--This limited-time upgrade is available between January 12 and January 26 only.
--The $79 upgrade cost of the device, plus the $35 administration fee are being waived. Customers who choose to take advantage of this offer get a $599 phone for $0 with the renewal of a three-year term from the date of the upgrade (For most customers, this will represent a contract extension of seven months or less).
--The upgrade is completely optional. Customers who choose to can stick with their HTC Dreams and remain in their current contracts.
If you run into any problems with this upgrade, please contact the @RogersHelps team.
Why is Rogers doing this upgrade? Simply put, we're committed to our Android phones and Android customers. Although we pushed HTC to provide a 2.1 OS upgrade for the Magic, they could not do so for the Dream device due to memory limitations. We knew we had to help our customers with this one-time limited-time offer.
We'd like to thank all our customers for their patience and hope you continue to enjoy your Rogers Android experience.
To upgrade your device through Rogers.com, you must have an existing 3-year data plan. Otherwise, please call Customer Care at 1-888-Rogers1:
--Go to http://www.rogers.com
--Log in to your account through MyRogers
--Follow the Upgrade My Phone link
Works great through the Rogers site. Just ordered my Brand New Magic!!!! And as a bonus they are throwing in a $50.00 mail-in rebate so I'm getting paid to get the phone. Ya baby!!
Special thanks to @RogersMary and to all the customer support team at Rogers for coming up with a win win solution to our mutual problem.

What a crock of S**T. I have just gotten word from the OotP that are willing to do nothing for us LG Eve owners. I won't show the whole email but here is a small chunk of the conversion I have had with D'Arcy.
"Once again, I do appreciate your continued frustration. I know that
your primary request is not to have new hardware, but it is the only
work around/option we can offer at this time.
I do have my voicemail set most of the time, as for the most part I am
on the phone throughout the day, so I do apologize that it has been hard
to get a hold of me. I appreciate that you wish to discuss this further
as per your request, but again, there is nothing further to be brought
to the table "so to speak" that can change our position on this
particular issue.
Should you wish to contact LG regarding the OS updates, please contact
them at 1- (800) 243-0000 or please refer to their website at LG Welcome to LG Customer Service & Support. as this will not be an
escalation that I can action further in our office."
I have tried calling but don't want to wait for her to call me back. All that I have asked her to do, is to lean on LG the same way they leaned on HTC.
WOW, it sucks being screwed over. And btw, I have emailed LG to no avail. I now have to find time to call them to get the run around...fun!

@RogersMary
First,
- Thank you and your team for all your efforts.
Second, Some questions (That I hope will not be ignored)
- Is this official (see bold text in quote)?
- Have you and your teams discussed LG Eve upgrade options?
- Have you talked to LG and tried to push for some type of upgrade
- And if not, would you be extending the same offer to "LG Eve Owners"?
Amidst this victory, let's not loose focus from our LG Eve counterparts as well. We want to push Rogers and LG to make sure that the Eve users are not left behind.

So I need to extend my contract by a couple of months, over 3 years what's the difference. At least I'm getting a phone that has half a chance of making it half way through my contract without becoming obsolete.
As a bonus I'm getting a $50.00 mail in rebate with the phone when it comes and I get to keep my Dream.
All in all it sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Like the Magic users that stuck with us Dream users, I for one have no intention on giving up on our LG EVE brethren.
On that note, it might be time to start a thread dedicated to a LG EVE update so that newcomers to the forum will know where to go.

GBD your wisdom is worth its weight in gold. I concur with the idea of starting a separate thread for LG Eve users to provide them with ease in finding the needed information.
ATTENTION LG EVE USERS: Please follow this Thread for updates pertaining to your device. Rogers LG Eve Android Update

Great news! Thank you @RogersMary!
Now I'm trying to order online. Am I missing something here? When I follow the upgrade my phone link it tells me I can upgrade my phone anytime no term at phone only price. Then I can browse phones and when I select the Magic I can choose plans or phone only. Nothing I am seeing indicates the Dream to Magic offer. Did I miss a certain link somewhere or should I just call care?

I was successful in ordering my new HTC Magic. Here are the detailed steps:
- Go to http://www.rogers.com
- Logon with your Rogers account and password
- Click on the Wireless Box (picture of a Black Berry with signal strength)
- This should bring you to the "My Wireless Services" screen
- You will also see a little picture of your HTC Dream
- Right beside the picture of the Dream, there is a link "Upgrade My Phone"
- Click it (it doesn't look like a link, but it is)
- There should be a promotion stating -$50. This is the upgrade you're looking for.
- Select it and follow on screen instructions from this point.
Great news! Thank you @RogersMary!

If you're still having trouble, call into Customer Care. The details of the upgrade should be in your account information.
Hope that helps.
.... and yes you do keep the phone, which is typical of any hardware upgrade
Decided to go the phone route. I think I'm running into problems because when I first signed up with Rogers I got a promotion through work and I'm on a corporate price plan even though it's a personal phone that I pay for. Called Customer Care and they transferred me to the business side right away. I knew right there things would go downhill. Would it surprise anyone that they didn't have a clue about this? Good thing I'm a patient person. LOL
I'll keep folks updated.
Have the customer care rep look into your account information. The details should be pre-loaded.
@RogersMary - I got my Dream through an upgrade and now the phone rep is telling me that the offer is only good for those who activated a new account when they got their dream! Is this guy confused or you actually not giving the upgrade to people who were rogers customers before they got their dreams?!!?
I've now called twice and gotten nowhere and I'm getting pretty frustrated!

I don't think anyone is deliberately lying to them. This is new today. The correct information may just be slow to trickle down. Give it a little time. I'm sure things will get straightened out.
For everything I've seen in the last couple of months, I truly believe @RogersMary wears a red cape and has a big 'S' on her chest. ;-)
