Default i can get a new rogers phone, which one?

hey,

i have a iphone 3g with rogers and after alot of calls i am able to get a new rogers phone at the 3 year price. The one phone i'm interested in is the samsung Galazy S captivate but their's no release date and i need a phone in the next couple weeks. So what other phone is the best out? And iphone is out the window cause the rep said they dont have any in stock and its the only phone that can't be ordered over the phone.

Well I would strongly suggest you wait until the Galaxy is out, but if you can't wait, the Android selection with Rogers is weak. The X10 is a great phone but for the specs I think it could do better; also Sony Ericsson is slow releasing the 2.1 upgrade. But when it's released, it should beat the Galaxy. There's a thread about that here:

experia X10 or Galaxy S

Don't touch the HTC Magic, it's old stuff (unless it's a new version?), and I don't know about the LG Eve.

Would getting a Nexus One or an unlocked Galaxy S be an option or you don't want to pay anything upfront?

I also suggest waiting for the Samsung if you can, however, if you don't want to wait, and you want a good phone, and you can afford it, you could buy the Samsung Vibrant from Bell for the full price and no contract, unlock it (the unlock codes are on the phone) and use it on Rogers.

That way you get the better Galaxy phone (the Vibrant has the front-facing camera) and you won't be locked into another 3 year contract.

I know it can be a lot to buy it outright, but imagine the total cost of a three year contract, instead of being contract-free much sooner, and able to get better deals?

Samsung Galaxy S

I am in the same boat. I can get a hardware upgrade for my 3g and my 3g is starting to fall apart.

I put myself on a waiting list for the Iphone 4 (just in case) and the mailing list for the Captivate. I truly hope the Captivate gets a release date soon. I'd jump on a 4.3" device if I could...

I would like to give Android a try. Most of my friends laugh at my hate relationship with anything Apple. But I am really sick and tired of being told what I can't do.

Then why not get an unlocked phone? Then you aren't shackled by the carrier and can updates when you want.
I hear the Galaxy S sold by Bell works peachy on Rogers ....

Well I won't argue with that even though you are paying more for it over the long term on contract especially if by not being on contract you can pick the plan that best suits you which is likely less than the limited choices you have on contract. And a lot of other reasons but not my problem.... enjoy the jailtime.

With the choices between Rogers, Telus and Bell... Is there really any choice in the matter? I've jumped ship so many times due to various reasons I have no one else I'd be willing to go to at this stage.

But you could switch without paying a ransom, could use any phone you choose, use it as designed, .....
It isn't about switching but having the freedom to make the best of a bad situation. Until Android came along it wasn't worth it to me to have even a basic phone and I'm starting to question if it is worth it now.

Videotron has entered the ring.

They have the Nexus at 100$ on a 3 year contract and they have dirt cheap data plans. I'm waiting and tomorrow I'm calling Fido to see what they can do
