Default Lost Data Rogers Dream

I use a rooted Dream with the 2708 Radio mod for the additional 15 MB RAM. Yesterday @ 2:30 PM AST I was eating lunch and surfing on 3G but when I got home @ 6:30 PM AST I realized I no longer had data. Called Rogers tech support and the agent advised of a possible outage but that he thought it had been resolved so we proceeded through troubleshooting. I tried my SIM in my rooted Dream, my Magic+ with the 2.1 OTA Update and my wife's iPhone and did not have data on any device, took my wife's (No Data Provision) sim card and put it in my Magic at the request of the rep and it appeared to get HSPA and i received the txt stating attempted to use data with out a data package. The agent assured me that there was NO block, I am also unable to sign the waiver as I get the invalid IMEI # error. Does anyone here have any suggestions?

You need a network reset. They can do it in 10 seconds. However it happened because of your radio version, you'll need the right version or it will happen again in about 2 days. I don't know enough about the Dream but the Magic has the same issue. Forget the waiver, get the radio.

I did have the updated radio but on the dream it drops calls and loses signal quite frequently, having the 2708 radio was like a brand new phone no dropped calls and great reception from Thursday 12/2/2010 until last night. I did tell the rep about the radio version and he claimed network refresh had been done he was in contact with a higher tier support while speaking to me. Knowing call centre process the way I do (10 years frontline techsupport/sales/retention and now 2.5 years as a data analyst) with the AHT target of 640 you don't keep customers on the line for 60 minutes when the customer tells you upfront to try a network refresh due to a known radio issue. He could have easily pawned me off as not supported if that was the case.

Get on the Weiver list, or as mentioned earlier in this thread their scans will cut you off at least once a week. I've been down that road.

Your right the 3.22.26.17 is garbage.

BTW the Rogers CSR are not lying when they say that they can't see a block. They can't. Its not visible to them. A network reset should return service until their next scans. The problem with this 'solution' is that some CSR's claim they either can't preform a reset, or that they've been instructed not too.

I seemed to get cut off on Monday or Tuesday evenings. Eventually I signed the weiver for my fiancee's HTC Dream. In typical Roger's fashion, it was a TOTAL fiasco. After 45 minutes on hold to speak with someone, they "escalated it" and my HTC Dream was put on a list of people waiting to sign. After a week my Magic got a text saying that I'd been added to the list. Sure enough they put the wrong IEMI on the list. Had to call back in, and they confirmed the wrong one was added("I don't know how that could have happened, the work order has the right one one it"). Then I had to wait another week for the proper one to be added to the list.

So pretty much your only options will be to put up with the garbage radio, or sign the weiver. If you root the Magic+ make sure you find a ROM with the 6.35 radio.

Unfortunately I am unable to sign the waiver "invalid IMEI" but I went to the store and advised I wasn't leaving until it was resolved they swapped my SIM Card and I have data less than 5 minutes spent so I am leaning toward bad SIM. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Watch for a reoccurrence in a week or so. A new sim wouldn't be blocked until their network scan picks it up. If its blocked, call tech support, tell them you want to sign the weiver, but can't, and have them escalate it.

I'm running 6.35 radio on my Magic with FroyoRider_Feeyo CM6.1 ROM. In the last 2 weeks my data got disabled 2 times on Mondays.
Every time Rogers support re-enabled the data by refreshing the network, but what the heck!
AFAIK 6.35.16.19 is a legit radio version, isn't it? I don't understand why I'm getting disconnected.
Any idea guys?

That .16.19 radio is legit and I ran it for long periods of time since it came out without any cutoffs. However I don't use it with Froyo since there are other issues. I ran for months with that radio on a 2.1 rom and didn't have any cutoffs.

The dropped calls and issues with old radio .26.17 must be a Dream issue because that radio has worked fine on the Magic with Froyo. I recently went back to the old radio and a 2.2 rom and haven't had any dropped data or rogers cutoffs.

Last month I got an SMS from Rogers that I was at 80% of my data cap. Luckily I was close to the billing period end so I didn't go over. And I didn't get cutoff.

1) Problems with the .26.17 radio are on both the Dream and Magic, I have both phones and have had problems with that radio on both phones, and solved the problem on both phones by changing radio versions. Your one of the lucky ones w/that radio, reports if problems with it are all over this and other forums. Maybe it has to do with what SIM card is in the phone(both mine are 5+ years old).

2) That's a courtesy text, they don't cut you off if you go over your data plan, they bill you at $0.05/MB for any data after you hit 100%

Perhaps and is why I prefer the new radio which gives no trouble. However the new radio isn't good on 2.2 so I've recently gone back to the old radio. So far no trouble at all and this is the fastest I've ever seen the Magic.

I know but was only to point out that my data continues to work. If it had dropped as others report I haven't noticed.

I had a lot of trouble with 3.22.26.17 on Cyanogen and on T-Mo 2.2. Dropped data, missed calls etc.
This is why I switched to 6.35.16.19 and am very happy with it except this stupid data cutoff from Rogers.

I just checked - my baseband version is: 63.18.55.06QH_6.35.16.19 whereas an official Rogers 2.1 baseband is 63.18.55.06QU_6.35.16.19. One letter difference... I wonder if this is a problem...

Does Rogers check SPL or version of Android?

The real cure is to get off the contract or use anything other than those two HTCs. For sure there is no cutoff issue on a different type of phone. I swapped SIMs to a Samsung for several months and never a cutoff and I never had to deal with Rogers over it. Right now I'm back on the Magic running froyo.

I'm not on the new radio right now or I'd look up the full baseband but I used it with a 2.1 for months and never got cut off. Right now I'm on 3.22.26.17 and no problems at all, in fact this SparksMod Froyo is excellent.

to clarify, I initially had many cutoffs but finally learned how to stay away from that nonsense. Best cure, get off contract or get a different phone.

I hope to get Nexus S soon after it's available on Rogers frequencies. Meanwhile SparksMod looks promising and I shall try it.

I might have spoken too soon. Yesterday it seems that I lost data/3G but came back after airplane mode on/off. It has been running perfectly for a week so I want to see it happen again before agreeing that this radio isn't good enough. If it happens again I'll go back to new radio and a 2.1 that I know will go months without any problems.
Shame though because this 2.2 is the best I've seen on the Magic. It is so much faster and more stable than it has ever been that it is like a brand new phone. At least I don't have any data cutoffs by Rogers.

Ok I just checked and my radio baseband is identical to the official "QU" version. I've never been cutoff with this radio so you need to find that one unless for some reason it won't work on yours but I don't see why not. You can use that radio for 2.1 and certain 2.2 roms but on 2.2 the camera isn't ideal. But you don't loose data either way.

Are you on the official Rogers 2.1 ROM or one of its rooted versions from XDA? If the latter then could you please post the link to the 6.35 radio you used?
I've downloaded the 6.35 radio from XDA and ended up with "QH".
I'll try to stick with 2.2 for now as the hands-free bluetooth dialing is very important to me.

I haven't used the stock rom in over a year. Today I'm trying AM_SuperHero which is based on the stock rom and has Sense. I've already dropped Sense and gone to ADW. So far it is pretty good and seems fast.

The places where I originally found the radio seem to have been taken down. Perhaps GB that posted some update methods for Rogers phones might have it. The file is about 20 megs in size.
If you don't find it then ding me. A nice little app is "Awesome Drop", load that, I give you a code and then I can drag and drop the file right to your phone.
