Folks, I was given the same response from Paul Pike as GBD received via an email. I also sent an email to couple of other folks at LG; they most likely will return an exact verbatim response.
If any of you have contacts at BGR or other Android related blogs, please notify them of the LG Eve update as well, so that we can yet again get good exposure.
It is also worth noticing from the post on Ixibo (http://www.ixibo.com/2010/01/lg-planning-to-launch-around-10-android-phones-in-2010/) that LG is planning around 10 android phones. My concern as an android app developer is to ensure that all these phones are going to get the proper update which they should and not be left behind with the factory default OS that they were shipped with.
It seems like more and more these wireless manufacturers jump on board a new platform, without knowing and fully understanding them and more importantly not having a long-term support & service strategy developed.
A new blog post on LG Eve as well as a copy of the email I fired off to Sheryl Davey over at the LG Eve communication agency.
Update (01/15/2010 - 10:50AM): And the response from Sheryl. In a nutshell, LG is currently investigating whether the Eve can be upgraded or not and will get back to us once a decision is made. Will keep you guys posted once I hear from either Sheryl or Paul.
Okay, I think I've given Rogers enough quiet time on my blog with the last (very nice) post about what they did for HTC Dream and Magic owners. Now I've got a new post bringing attention to the Eve, and referencing the work GBD and pir8 have done so far on their blogs.
I've been lurking as I watched things unfurl, largely due to the earlier push towards the HTC phones (since I have an Eve). I have been attempting to make a few waves (emails to the ootp, etc), and I can also say that LG support is no better than Rogers support is (or was, I guess, now...).
Specifically, I was told by an LG tech that the Android 2.0 update was available and could be downloaded directly from the Android website..
So, once again, things look bad -- and I'm especially afraid of the upcoming release of up to 10 android phones this year - I'm really hoping they're not all dead-ended with whatever version of the OS they come with. It will be more than a little annoying to have to buy a different phone with an almost identical profile just for an update.
Having said that, other than this issue (and the resulting lack of functions that I should have due to OD upgrades and new apps), it's a snazzy little phone.

Yes I too am waiting patiently for some type of resolution to the Android 1.5 issue. I purchased my new LG Eve 2 weeks ago and I must say it is a beautiful phone, it has every feature I wanted in a cell phone. I myself went through 2 days of research looking at phones trying to pick one that I thought would benefit me the most. There are a lot of nice phones out there but for me it was a toss up between the Blackberry 9700 or the LG Eve and after reading the forums about the Android OS issue and no updates for the Eve I left my final design to Rogers. I called and talked to a Sales agent about the new LG Eve and he himself praised the phone, he said it was going to be a very popular phone with the new Google OS on it, I asked him about the issue with updates and if they are going to be coming out for it and I was told "Yes" he stated that it was still a new phone and I would have to wait for it to have updates and when I asked about the 1.5 OS and how the other phones are already running 1.6 & 2.0 his remark was "Yes there will be updates but it takes time" He then went on and said that there is soon going to be the Rogers Android Account Application and I am still waiting for that. I hope that Rogers can resolve this issue for I do not understand what the hold up is. It's not like it is going to cost them millions of dollars, in the long run it is going to improve their customer satisfaction and bring more business there way for they will be showing they care about their customers and provide excellent support for their products. But if there is no update soon I will be calling in and demanding that they give me an upgrade to a different phone with no additional costs. But I hope it doesn't come to that for I want to keep my Eve but not if there is no option for improvement.
I have fired off another email to Sheryl from LG to provide some more clarification on unanswered questions. Email body below:

Hi Sheryl,
Hope you had a good weekend. Thank you for responding so quickly to my email last week.
It was brought to my attention that close to 10 new android phones will be made available by LG for consumers. This is great news, as the Android platform picks up speed and more carriers and manufacturers are starting to support the platform.
In addition to OS upgrades for the Eve, a lot of us are curious as to what plans LG has to support and provide OS updates to these upcoming devices? Are Android OS upgrades for these 10+ phones going to be released on a timely manner by LG, or are these updates going to be provided by Google. Moreover, are these updates going to be made available Over The Air (OTA) or will they need to be downloaded from LG's website?
Currently a lot of mystery revolves around these types of questions and we look to LG in providing this information to allow future customers to be more educated and informed while making (or planning) decisions to purchase these upcoming devices.
Will LG be putting forward and sharing with the public their plans on Android support and upgrade?
Thank you for taking the time to clarify some of these questions.
I have fired off another email to Sheryl from LG to provide some more clarification on unanswered questions. Email body below:
May be necessary if/when she answers you to get her to specify if her answer applies to LG phone on _US_ carriers, or Canadian carriers, and more specifically Rogers.
Don't want to give her the chance to proudly proclaim that these phones will be supported, if she really means they will be supported for non-Rogers customers.
MJS: I've forwarded your comment over to her. She did respond to my email as below:

Hi Puleen,
Thanks for your email. I have forwarded your questions to the appropriate person at LG. I am awaiting their answers and will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for your interest and patience.
Cheers

HTC, Rogers and LG, you all need to look at these findings and really try to take Android seriously and understand it well.
Quote:
According to new data from ChangeWave Research, both usage and consumer sentiment towards Google's mobile operating system Android has increased over the past several months. As of December 2009, the research firm's survey shows that 4% of all smartphone owners now use a phone running some version of the Android OS. That's an increase of 200% since the previous survey released in September.
Android is here to stay and has picked up steam. The more you support Android devices in a timely manner, the better chances you have of increasing customer confidence, retention and loyalty. All you three have to do is understand Android and understand it well. If you don't understand it, I'll be more than happy to help you understand the endless possibilities and how it can help you!
But for the benefit of customers, innovation and market share, do what is right. Leave no droid behind!
Just wanted to update you. LG Canada is in meetings with LG in Korea discussing these very issues. I don’t have any answers yet, but again I will update you as soon as I do.
Hello all,
I'm a new member of this forum - I bought 2 Eve's for my wife and I back on Jan 4, thinking that they would have come pre-loaded with newest release (what I was told by a sales rep in a store). Don't trust anything a salesman tells you - always research it.
Hence, I am anxiously awaiting the outcome of pressing Rogers/LG on this issue - good luck!
emanresu, if you haven't used more than 30 minutes of talk on those phones you can return them and cancel your dataplan under rogers` "buyer's remorse" policy, or alternately exchange them for another non android phone. if you're espeically set on an android, the htc magic will presumeably get an upgrade.
oh, we have definitely used more than 30 minutes each - and for what its worth we really like the phones, and for now seem to do everything we want and then some (we upgraded from 2 old motorola V360 phones, so the Eve is a huge upgrade).
My biggest worry is that the phones are already becoming obsolete with new apps not being backwards compatible to 1.5 - and I hear the battery management is improved in newer releases (we have to charge the Eve's daily - whereas our last phones would last several days).
By then end of our 3 year term, how bad are we going to have it?
the battery is another issue.
because rogers has a ******ed policy that prompts sales people to actively show you how to use your phone, when you buy it they probably mess up the initial battery charge - they charge it just enough to last for the demo, and there's a good chance you're getting the demo battery with the phone.
if it drains a ridiculous amount while on standby demand a battery change.

I to am in the vote of whether to return it, the only thing is I haven't had many calls, with the return option of 30 minutes or less I am more than likely up the creek for I just checked and I am at 34 minutes. LOL. so I don't know if that is still acceptable or not.
I'm a brand new owner of the LG Eve (well, my wife is technically!) and I was very disappointed when I heard that the Eve can't be updated to 1.6 or 2.0 when I contacted LG support this morning. They said the reason it can't be updated is because the Eve is a combination of Android with S-Class.
I really hope that the comments here will help spur on the LG team to further develop. Maybe I've been too used to my iPhone and it's constant updates. It seems like we're being given the short straw again from Rogers.

LG Canada is currently in talks with LG Head office about this issue. They were really quick to take notice when we started to turn out attention to them. (They must love Rogers/HTC for keeping the heat off of them) Hopefully we will hear back from them regarding their plans in the next couple of weeks

Yeah, I've been reading this thread and it seems encouraging, especially with MaryRogers on the forums too, taking note of peoples comments. And the replies from the LG guys themselves are also encouraging. I'll be keeping a close eye on the developments and this thread in particular. It seems like a great forum for Android, and hopefully I'll be an Android user for a while (eh, LG )

I hope they come to a decision soon, and the eve is supposed to be a top phone I just do not understand the logic behind bring out a phone with a new OS on it and the features just to leave it hanging. You would thing they would be putting everything into it seeing it is new. But again it has grown a lot in the last few months and I hope that LG will produce the much needed and wanted updates for us.
Because the Eve runs on 1.5 which doesn't have voice dial.
Just because the magic has voice dial doesn't mean that its worth the space that it takes upon the phone. It's so hit and miss it might as well not be there.
Because the Eve runs on 1.5 which doesn't have voice dial.
1.5 _does_ have voice dial, it's just that you have to confirm the results by pressing the screen which is lame. I have 1.5 on my Magic and use it in car with my BT headset.
If the Eve doesn't have voice dial, it must be specific to the Eve, but just so it's clear, the way Voice Dialing works on Android, is NOT like on older phones (like the motorola razr). On older phones you could record yourself saying the name/word for the contact you wanted to dial so it would "learn" what you wanted. That doesn't exist in Android, instead it's just a part of the voice search function of Android. You say "Call bob" and it knows by your use of the word "Call" to search your contacts for Bob. The problem is when there are two similar names (or even the same!) and you have to press the screen to confirm what you want.

This is starting to become frustrating, I have sent of lot's of emails to Rogers & LG about the updates for the LG EVE and if and when is there going to be any. And still no response, This phone would be even better with some updates and a current OS version on it, I am getting to the point of sending it back and going with another Provider and different Manufacture, I thought for sure with how much the Android OS has flurished over the last month and a bit they would be pushing updates on these phones. they would save a lot of bad press and increase sales if they just supplied us with what we need.
I just received an update from LG, not much has been happening but they are still working on the issue. It looks like Rogers is involved with the discussions but as you know they have been rather preoccupied lately. Please be patient EVE owners we are still working on an update for you.
Here is the text of the email that I received.

Hi Don,
Thanks for following up. Still don’t have any more information. We are having speaking with our team (including representatives from Rogers) but as you are aware they are busy with the HTC/ 911 conversations. LG is working to determine the best way to answer these questions and whether the upgrade to 1.6 is feasible (considering development/deployment and cost).
Thanks for your patience and rest assured that I will provide you with any details I receive as soon as I receive them.

My response back would be to understand what form of compensation and/or options would be provided for those customers who purchased the EVE but will not be seeing an update beyond 1.5?
If they do not plan on offering an update to Android 1.6 and above, then the EVE might as well become a paper weight. This applies to any and all devices.
Without OS upgrades, these phones are worthless. WORTHLESS I TELL YOU!
ROGERS, HTC, LG, you are SERIOUSLY pissing me off!
I'm keeping my eye on the European version of the Eve, the InTouch Max to see if they will be updating it.
I've read one review for the UK version of the GW620 and there's already a difference in the video resolution that it can capture (720x480 for the UK model, 320x240 for the Rogers version).
i am trying to use my wireless n router(no problems with g) when at home with my htc dream (has update).
i searched for 2 hours and could not find this topic in the forums.
this seems like a good collection of Canadian android users, and i appreciate what you are doing to help us in our push to get Rogers/lg/htc to stay on top of what they have started.
i hope one of you can help me with this or direct me to the right place. thanks

@josephhjg: Please create a new thread in the Rogers sub-forum, and tell us there exactly what is the problem you are having.
This thread is for discussing the LG Eve update (or lack thereof) only.
I've got a loaner EVE from a friend who didn't like his and can't do anything about it. Been playing around with it. It's a pretty decent device, but I still don't like the responsiveness of the touch and the bulk of the keyboard.
But overall a pretty decent device. Would be a waste if it were not upgraded to Android 1.6 and above.
LG Canada, get your act together. Tell those engineers to stop screwing around and start getting things done!
Just picked up the LG Eve yesterday pretty much for free from Rogers, cause I've been a customer with them for many years....
First off have to say Rogers has great service, compared to Bell and Telus, theey are hands down better, not in reception but customer service, there actually there and compident, soo im not gonna start bashing Rogers.....and im sure everyone here knows that to be true, Rogers is to me the best providor in Canada hands down.....
k Second, again just picked up the LG eve yesterday its actually for my girlfriend, So i unlocked it for 6 bucks on Ebay.and gave it to my girlfriend to use on her crappy Solo account....I have been playing around with the phone for a little bit and have to say its pretty dammm amazing..I really like the android OS, I misght even like it better then Apple Os, big emphasis on might, there both good, soooo ill have to wait and see...but really like the Eve, I cant really use the qwerty keyboard my hands arent comfortable on it so i need my iphone.....
Third is the whole OS 1.5 update that this thread and thousands of people are talking about...I mean as much as I do love this phone...If its not upgradable, i might have to return it later and go for the 100s of new touch android phones coming out in the near future like the Sony Xperiia, its crz......I mean the reason i have the iphone is cause it can do sooo much and I can always upgrade it, I had the phone before it came to Canada and even though mine is the old 2G, i have it on OS 3.1.2 the latest...
Sooooo if this Eve cant be upgraded its kinda taking a step backwards.....but as for the whole Rogers bashing, I really dont tihnk they have anytihng to do with this, they just sell what there givin....This issue is really more towards LG...who im not a huge fan of yet, there getting there as far as technology, but not quite the top yet...So cmon LG get your act together, and give all of us here on this forum and everyone whos already bought this phone and work on an update for us....Sooo keep on blogging
and as far as my phone and providor....
Give us Android 1.6 or lose my business, LG !!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S sorry if my post was too long, got carried away
Hi, I found this forum/topic on Jan.26 as I wanted to research the LG Eve smartphone a bit before getting one from Rogers. I am not so sure I am interested in the Eve anymore!! Unbelievable that Rogers can not give anyone a straight answer!! So, I thought I'd try and call Rogers and got nothing but the run around, noone seemed to know anything about what I was talking about, I was transferred twice and the last guy just plainly said yes it was upgradeable! What crap, I just wanted off the phone by then, so I said ok and hung up! I also emailed LG Canada through their website and asked if the Eve would be upgradeable to a newer version of the Android OS, and if so, to what version.....the reply that I got was interesting! The person from LG Canada said that they had, and I quote, "just learned that the Android software will be upgradeable to 2.0 in the near future on the LG Eve." So, who do I believe? LG? Or Rogers.....who don't seem to know anything!? Can anyone give us a straight up answer and end this confusion!? Anyway, that's the info that I have, I hope it helps! And thank you to the people who keep up the fight!
@NewbAndroid: Can you copy and paste here the email you received, including the name of the person who emailed you, and if you have it, the email address?

This could be encouraging news from LG if true about the 2.0 update.
On my loaner EVE my Gmail emails don't seem to be getting pushed out. I always end up refreshing it manually.
Anyone know if there is a configuration I have to set somwhere? I already have "DATA SYNCHRONIZATION" enabled to include contacts, calendar and mail.
What am I missing?
In settings check "background data" and try enabling "always on" (don't remember where it was). This will make your battery last for... well it wouldn't last.
I sent the email at this link LG Send a Message to LG Customer Service And this is a copy and paste of the email I received from LG Canada:
"Hello
Thank you for contacting LG Customer service. We are here to help provide you with the answers or guidance you need. If you require further assistance please submit a new request or contact customer service at 1-888-542-2623.
Apparently I have just learned that the Android software will be upgradeable to 2.0 in the near future on the LG Eve.
Regards

Wish I could give you the name of the person who sent it! I did send an email to Paul Pike asking if he could confirm it....hopefully something will come of this!

Yes I to am finding it upsetting after getting the LG Eve and finding out that it may not be upgradeable, I did some research on this phone before getting it and the final decision was made after talking to a Rogers CSR and he was telling me that the Eve was a new phone and it had many features and there will be updates coming out for it soon and one of the updates is the Rogers Account App for Android . If I knew then what I know now I would have went with another phone. If it ends up there is not going to be updates for the eve then I am going to ask for another phone and keep my contract , and if they won't agree to it then they are going to lose me as a customer and I know my 2 friends will do the same with there eve's for they are waiting for me to tell them if I hear anything about the issue. Even if Rogers or LG decide to not update the Eve they should honor there customers and give us the option to choose another phone, it would show us they are sympathetic to our situation and honoring there products and service. To me it does not take a big company like LG or Rogers a lot of time to put out updates if they wanted to. But enough rambling LOL ..

If you have any more questions about using your LG eve, you will find there is a sub-forum all about the LG Eve, and the general Android Lounge is full of helpful people.
We would like to try to keep this thread on topic about any possible update to the Rogers LG Eve above Android 1.5. Thanks!
On behalf of LG, I want to thank you for your inquiry and feedback on the LG Eve. We are happy to announce that LG will be releasing an upgrade to Android 1.6 OS for the LG Eve this Spring, for Rogers customers. The upgrade is expected to be available for download on both the Rogers and LG websites. Soon after, LG will begin shipping the LG Eve with 1.6 OS to our partner Rogers, who will then manage consumer distribution.
In regards to your question about the 911/GPS feature, this bug does not affect the LG Eve.
Thanks again for your feedback and please let me know if you have any other questions.
Cheers,
Sheryl Davey | High Road Communications
I have asked her to follow up in regards to Android 2.1 update which she will do and get back to us on.
This is good news for LG Eve users. But the fight doesn't stop until we get 2.1!
Coincidence, but this also happens to be my 100th post...w00t w00t!
