yes you can the phone does not require a ton of energy to update it, just long enough to ensure no interruption.
i upgraded my phone with 30% lol

They prefer you to be fully charged but you can get away with 30 or 40 %

i believe they only want you to have 100% because i think the update wipes the battery stats. and this allows them to be accurate. no big deal
