You need to put your sim card in another phone that is phone first, such as the nuron, highlight, or many other older phones, that isnt labeled as a SMART PHONE.
As part of my troubleshooting for not getting 1.6 I master reset my BH2, put in my BH2 a brand new unused SIM card, activated the new SIM with tmo, modded the APN and was immediately using the $10 data plan I had previously set up. As long as the my.t-mobile.com account shows a non-android phone as phone of record, the $10 plan should be available.

Not just non-android, but also not one of tmobile branded windows mobile smart phone or blackberry
Ah! You guys are amazing, just got this working on my Nexus One. Though now I have a quandary! I was going to buy my wife the Samsung Vibrant in a couple weeks, but now I'm tempted to buy another Nexus One off contract instead! It actually works out to be about the same price over a 2 year period given that the data plan is $15 less...
Yea the Nexus one is the other that works with the cheap data plans, its not officially a tmobile branded phone, so im sure thats why. But tmobile can restrict that with a push of a button, but guess they dont, so ride it out as long as you can.

The $10 internet plan is just internet, no texting.
You guys are genious!!!!!!!!!! I have the 10 dollars t mobile slow internet plan and because i used 250 mb in 3 days they cut my data service. I almost called them obviously to get ripped off one more time , but you guys saved my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used the internet2.voicestream.com APN! Thank you very much guys!!!!!!!!!!
I was able to get it working again. Call t-mobile and ask them to remove you from the tower(flush). You'll have to turn your phone off & remove the battery then reboot. If they ask why just tell them you sometimes have issues receiving texts and that always fixes it.

It still works for me, but I'm not sure for how much longer it will work. I had to call customer service about something and now when I log in, it seems my phone as a BH2. OTOH, my bill hasn't changed yet and I haven't had any connection issues, but I'm not a heavy user. I think I used 300 MB last month and am only up to 300 or so for this month too.
you know what i did? i walked in to tmobile, told them my phone fell in to the drink and that i need to change my plan abit. that im using an old razr and need to switch to just talk+text. they'll go ''okay!"
get home, call the tmobile customer service # on a diff phone than your behold 2, tell them the same story, and ask for the 10 a month internet
dont let ANY tmobile person tell you that you are 'stuck' with the internet. lol.
i've had the regular talk+text+web and now im on the 10 a month internet. the speeds to me are the SAME. its data over 3g/edge connecting to the internet.
done.

sometimes commonsense isn't so common. If it was everyone would have it. Good post!
Hey guys, I tried following everyone's advice on getting this to work, but you guys are also talking about a different phone, so I thought i'd see if anyone has experience or tips with my phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy S through T-Mobile, and I am trying to get this working on here, i've tried changing the APN and everything, still says I need to upgrade the web package. Any advice? Thanks!
galaxy s won't work.
nokia nuron, samsung behold 2 and nexus one are the only smart phones work with 10 dollar data plan. (3G and unlimited)
Nexus S does not work either.

I think if you're interested, I found a wiki one that listed all the phones compatible with the $10 plan, but I don't remember where the link is. Just look for phones compatible with tzones. I currently have an HD2 and I'm using the $10 plan with it and it's got a larger screen and faster processor then the BH2. Still, my sister is currently enjoying the Behold 2 and tzones continues to work on it too.
the trick is to buy a feature phone (I prefer the RAZR). Sign up for your T-Mobile plan with that phone, add $10 internet, add whatever you want. Then, after your plan is initiated and the phone (RAZR remember) shows up at tmobile.com on your plan, pull the SIM and pop it in your BH2 (or WHATEVER PHONE YOU WANT). I don't even think you need to make sure it's unbranded, but I wouldn't know because all of my phones have been rooted with custom ROMs anyway.
Anyway. Change your APN to internet2.voicestream.com and away you go. You'll then come back whining about how your MMS doesn't work, but that's a different thread (hint: search my user name and internet2 and MMS).
I don't want to say this too many times because I rue the day that TMoUS pulls the plug and takes away our $10 party.
Your phone type will change to the new phone (BH2, HD2, etc.) on Tmobile.com after a few days/weeks/months but your internet should still work fine. Before I call Tmobile about anything, I switch my phone on mytmobile.com back to the RAZR and put the SIM in that phone before I call.
I know it's an old thread, but it needs good information.
The Samsung Behold 2 for T-Mobile greatly improves on the first version of the phone by adding Android to the mix, providing for a powerful combination of hardware and sowftware. With Android, Samsung's custom TouchWiz UI, a 3.2-inch AMOLED Tou... Read More
