Default 2.1 Update For Behold 2...

I just bought my Behold 2 on Saturday. The T-mobile rep told me that the 2.1 Update would be available this week...I hope he is right...I can't wait!

lol... not laughing at you, just laughing at the rep. Every rep seems to say something different. We aren't getting an OS update this week, we're getting some much needed fixes via update.

The update that is should be out this week is just a Bug fix not an OS update, so I believe you were told something incorrect.

I can't Say any name, But the BH2 will not see the 1.6 Update.

My Source at Samsung has Confirmed that 2.1 will be coming to the BH2, but wont be for a few Months till we get it.. Likely at least 3 months I was told at Minimal.

Now, Don't Quote Me on this, I might have Mis-understood the Convo

Try not to rip on the tmo reps, they are just people trying to sell phones to make a living. They have to keep track of about 30 different phones, and may be a fan of bb or iphones, so may not fully understand Android. Most of the time they have no idea of upcoming models (bet you go into a store and ask about the upcoming Nokia, and they have no clue). Once TMO communicates with these reps, we usually get screenshots within hours. So there is very rarely an hidden or inside information. Stick with information from some of the more reputable sites (Phandroid, BGR, tmonews) and probably the best place is Open Source - Samsung Mobile where our upcoming update was posted about a month ago.

Your probably right but usually they do at least the one I go to do they have good knowledge on when phones come out and giving me ways of getting them if I have a budget even if its not sold by t-mobile i.e. 3rd party. For a good example about a year ago this time around when the motozine was considered one of the best camera phones I had bought it from some guy that had won it in a contest when it first came out $150 you know who showed me to that guy? a tmobile rep. The phone with t-mobile originally would have cost I think 250 on 2 year contract about 300-400 without I got it half price new in box. Thanks to t-mobile. But yeah I will stick with more reputable sites though.

Wow, BH_MAN - Info AND skillz. You are the man!!! (translation: thank you!)

So, if we add this to our list of probables, we have the Galaxy2 said to drop in March. The Bravo (or whatever it will be called by then) in April with Tmo. And your timetable gives us SB2 owners a likely window of late May to early June to get the 2.1 update. Exciting news! (but the wait...sheesh - they may be asking too much of me in light of the other excitement all around, LOL).

I am just glad that we will be "in the game" on the 2.x tip. I am not mad at them for bypassing 1.6 - Not at all. I am most pleased!

The question now is, how capable is my wait factor? Shall I root and roll back in May or shall I wait? See the agony you have created with your jazzy ROM, BH_MAN? (j/k)

[Voyager doin' the happy dance!!!] and thinkin'

All US Android phones getting 2.1 in 2Q10.

All U.S. Android phones to receive Android 2.1, but some will require a wipe – Android and Me

I hope 4 months (less than 6 in development) isn't too much time for some of you whiners to wait.

Considering the instablility of 1.5 and the track record on updates, people have a valid reason to complain...especially those of us with Behold2's who *purchased* them. Are we not waiting for an update that was promised between the 18th and the 26th which 90% of us have NOT received? No whine just cheese and crackers

This direct from Tmobile on Twitter this morning

@ArtGarcia07 We would love to tell you but unfortunately we do not have a date for any further updates to the Behold II. Thanks... ^JG about 1 hours ago via HootSuite in reply to ArtGarcia07

Guess what, I just spoke to a tmo rep, and all updates to android phones are halted because they were causing bricked phones. Guess people can keep complaining, because that will really send them a message and get working faster.

They are bricking phones? weren't they supposed to test it before sending it OTA?

You know what? They are FULL of it!!! This whole thing has been an exercise in BS. A rather jacked-up stall tactic to get their weak campaign some juice. "Get ready for a Behold 2 Update!!!" (New Ad Campaign) (Thud) (Update release date expires) Sorry, No update!!!

None of the 3 (count 'em) THREE people here who said they received the update reported a bricked phone!

And yes I am complaining. You bet your sweet bippy I am complaining. To those of you who Samsung *gave* a phone, you *have* to kiss up. Mine was purchased. I can tell the truth about my experience. The whole Samsung Behold 2/ with 1.5 is a FAIL. SO: No more dangling the promise of an update here. No more lies about 2.1 - Just fix the OS so that we can enjoy our lovely phones!!!

I just got off the phone with Samsung, said they are working 24/7 on getting FroYo (THATS v3.0!!!!!!) working on the Behold 2 because they heard a lot of chatter of people complaining on internet boards.

Forgot to add that they promised the only added software this time is Duke Nukum Forever!!

I just got off the phone with God. He said that Earth 3.1 is in the works!!! (Bypassing 2.x due to buggy OS in humans)

(You stand a far better chance of this happening than any of the farce on this thread regarding updates! Just sayin'...)

Easyyyyyyyyy Chad let's get 2.x first before we venture over to Froyo.

Oh by the way Samsung also promised us 2.x when it was released by google and we have yet to see that. I wouldn't believe a word they say.

Also if that article has any truth to it, I hope the Behold II is one of the handsets that has to be wiped in order to get 2.1

Name one phone any manufacturer, any carrier that has updated to 2.1.

You can't because 2 months is not enough time to develop software.

I suggest you read this so you understand that software doesn't develop itself:

Systems Development Life Cycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you don't like the phone, go sell it on ebay, I just saw one bid up to $275, then go buy a N1 for $189. You make $$$ on that deal!!

you cant buy an N1 for $189 unless you get a 2 year contract, which most of us already have!

Not saying it's an easy task but to keep everyone in suspense and not release any info on whether we'll receive an update period is just asinine.

Oh and Droid has been updated to 2.1

Too bad, for the future you should consider an Even More Plus plan, even though you have to pay more for for the phone, the reduced monthly plan saves you a few hundred dollars over getting a "subsidized" phone during the life of your 2 year contract. And I don't have a contract, so I can get a new phone whenever I want.

Well you can always get a new phone whenever you want but you will just pay an unsubsidized price like you would if you just chose the Even More Plus Plan but at least in the beginning you would have a phone at a subsidized price. Hell you might even get the subsidy if you talk to someone and extend your contract another two years. I got my G1 a few months after I quickly bought a cheap phone online through the store. I thought I ate my subsidy with the free phone but after I ordered it through T-Mobiles website they gave me the subsidized price. So anything can happen.

Yeah they maybe 4th but they brought android to the world first and as far as gsm carriers go I would say that t-mobile reigns as king 1st and plus at&t sucks.

Sprint sucks AT&T sucks Verizon is over priced T-mobile is just perfect aside from this upgrade experience.

cingularAt&t blows ass.

Verizion's service sucks balls.

Tmobile is awesome.

Sprint/boostmobile is cool because of the chirp feature.

For what its worth, we have a 800 handset (all windows smart phones) tmobile contract at work here, and when I asked our pre-sales engineer when to expect android 2.x phones, and or upgrades. He said to expect android 2.x phones Q2, and upgrades not till late Q2 early Q3 if they have any. Don't forget that in the cellular marketplace, specially in the US, they tend to only offer bug fixes to existing phones and focus more on upselling and recontracting users to buy NEW phones for upgraded feature sets.... the market is transforming thanks to the success of the iphone and its appstore... so carriers are still figuring out their plans on how to properly market and extract profits from this new system...

I would say in my region (SW Florida) quality of coverage goes as follows:

Sprint (Great)
AT&T/Verizon (Good)
Tmobile (Miserable)

Place your own values on customer service and plan features...

I was having a lot of fun playing with the B2 but i find it overall fairly unusable as a high use phone and the coverage is pathetic in my area from Tmobile. Going to throw it up on ebay soon and prob go to Sprint as they have the best priced plan that fits my needs. Just hate having to sign a contract... (Tmobile offers no contract plans) waiting for a good android 2.1 phone to hit their roster before I jump ship...

Wow; how optimistic we were back then. 3.1 even! I guess the part about OTA upgrades bricking phones came to pass...

And Samsung's "wisdom" in abandoning earlier customers seems to be paying off big time. They sold 28 million smartphones in the last quarter. My strategy in boycotting Samsung has accomplished precisely nothing.
