I've been going between getting a 16gb or 32gb card, and am having trouble deciding how much space I really need. I was wondering what peoples experiences are with the 32gb card, and how they fill them (or if they can).

I imagine that if I need to ask, then it should be apparent I don't need a 32gb card, but I still want to hear peoples experiences.

i assume people that have lots of music and movies and take lots of photos/videos. having a hd video can probably run 1gb at least, i dont know exactly how big they are when you resize them

About 30GB of music. All other data -- apps, pics, podcasts, etc -- goes to the internal card. It's mostly the "Good Parts" selection from my full collection, with a smaller slice dedicate to rotating in and out new stuff that I'm checking out, most of which is destined not to make the permanent cut.

I stream movies and other videos to a TV at work; I currently have the entire 4th season of Dexter on my phone (If anyone knows how to turn off the captivate screen while streaming to a TV PLEASE let me know). Um...but I only have a 16gb card...wish I would have waited for the 32 but oh well. Remember when having a 1gig harddrive was awesome (I remember my friend bragging about his)? Now we have terabytes. You can never have too much space. You'll find stuff to put there trust me. It's a computer in your hand with a beautiful screen. Go nuts.

When I went off to college some years ago, I went with a desktop pc with a large LCD monitor. The system specs, if I recall, were 16mb ram, 500mb HD, 486 (pre-pentium class) processor. Presumably running Win3.1.

When my little sister went off to college this year, she went with a 10 inch netbook. Atom processor, 1gb ram, 160gb HD. Running Win7 home premium.

Makes me feel damn old.

You had an LCD with that rig? I had just a bit better build my freshman year (fall of 1997), but the monitor was a 14" or 15" CRT.

Haha! I know exactly what you mean. I look at my 16gig microSD card and I am AMAZED (the thing is the size of my thumbnail!!!!). Literally. I remember being stoked to have an original pentium running at 166mhz. I still think it's crazy how that was enough to enjoyably play the original half-life...makes me think programmers write sloppy code these days. I remember when your hard-drive was the loudest thing in your case, you knew your computer was working because you could hear it (or that it had frozen in some kind of infinite HD retrieval death scenario).

@shikem - I get most of my movies from torrents. I use a private invite only site. Everything is clean, it rocks. Google bit torrent sites and I'm sure you'd be able to find any movie or show you could possibly want. Even Citizen Kane.

My first computer that I used was a Commodore PET. No disks... read programs off audio tapes.

First computer we owned (as a family) was a Tandy TRS-80 Model 2000. 80186 CPU, green monochrome screen, 2 5.25" floppy drives, no hard drive. Dad blew a lot of money on it to upgrade it to having a mouse, a clock/calendar and be able to support graphics (all of which required special proprietary add-on cards).

My first computer I owned myself was a Tandy 1400 laptop. 8086 CPU (NEC V20), dual 3.5" floppy drives, monochrome screen, no hard drive. Tried installing a 40MB HDD into it but couldn't make it work. My one big upgrade was the 1200bps modem.

I was psyched about my first 386. I think I put in a 105MB hard drive into it, and at the time I had the biggest hard drive of anyone I knew. I often think of that 105MB hard drive as I look at my 16GB USB flash drive or contemplate the 32GB MicroSD card.

What's funny is that most 32GB microSD cards about at least TWICE THE PRICE I paid for the Captivate itself...lol

EDIT: For reference...I paid $49 for my Captivate at wirefly.com...2 year contract, 1st timer with AT&T. Didn't want someone who paid $199 for a Captivate to think that I was saying that a 32GB microSD card was $400 or something crazy like that...lol

Two words: Lossless Audio. The stock music player doesn't read wav files (other music players do, though), but you can encode your CDs using (your and my favorite love/hate company) Apple's lossless AAC format. With the audio processor on this phone and a good set of headphones: WIN!

EDIT: Never mind about completely uncompressed audio. Apparently that's not going to work very well, but you can at least encode at super-high bit rates.

using my 16gb card to hold season 5 of it's always sunny in philadelphia... with lots of room to spare for my podcasts.
