Default android system information

i've just installed an applet called 'android system' on my captivate. it is very cool but i'm new to the android world and i need to learn the information so i can determine what is important to me and what isn't. is there anything out there similar to unix/linux system administration for the android smartphone world? all i come across are application developer manuals.

Typically Android is not meant to be worked with at that level. If you really need to, you can root your phone and even then install a console app for terminal access but that's only for the rare occasional use. In fact, while I have the terminal app I've never had cause to use it. All your Android use is going to be via high-level GUI user apps.
