Interesting...on left side of the page it shows, "Galaxy S with Android 2.2 OS" while on the right side it shows, "Platform Android 2.1"

I think the webby mistyped it.

They state that it has the latest version of android. Maybe they didn't hear about 2.2?
Also claims GPS capability.

Correct Link:

Samsung Captivate | Galaxy S | Samsung SGH-I897 - Cell Phones

And it does show Android 2.2 in their description underneath, but 2.1 on the right. A little misleading if you ask me.

Kies Mini is available for download now. Can anyone confirm if this is a new version?

UPDATE: No, I found my old download and it is the same version that I downloaded at the end of September.

The link has a section on media hub which isn't activated until you have froyo. I don't think that and the full ad at the top that mentions it are a typo. Also the little picture on the left shows a small android 2.1 robot standing outside of the phone with a 2.2 robot peaking out from behind the actual phone, this all says to me that they are updating the page to reflect the upcoming update. Wish they would say when...I could see them updating the page a while in advance.

Also, my Kies updated itself just now and I had previously checked a few days ago. When my phone connects Kies it now says "failed to connect to the model information server"

Visitor: also about why on the website its saying that samsung captivate comes with 2.2.
Paxton: As it is about to release that the reason it has been posted on Samsung website.
Visitor: can you give me a specific date?
Paxton: We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.
Visitor: but posting that it comes with 2.2 is also leading to inaccurate information and confusion.
Paxton: When the update is official, it will be posted on our web site in the Samsung Download Center.
Visitor: but I am just saying that its wrong that I got it last month and I dont have latest software but people who will buy it now, will have it stocked?

That was a halarious conversation. Those Samsung Reps are funny man. "So will it come with android 2.2"? Rep "If you buy the phone it will come with 2.1 and later update to 2.2." Me "So your misleading aint you by saying that and its not true?" Rep "When it comes out you will get OTA" LMAO

Samsung Rep. "When I look at my mom laying in bed, she looks fine and phone will work when we release 2.2 OTA from carrier" HAHHAA

Gets out some emotion though! Everybody knows call service reps are whipping boys, that's why the job sucks. But I agree that it won't get anything done, especially since Samsung *probably* just barely changed their website so why would some rep in China know about it?

Web Developer: "Are you sure? Users will be confused because 2.2 has not yet been released."

That rep looks like an auto-response script:

Customer: "Why isn't 2.2 released"

Rep: "How do you feel about that?"

Customer: "What do you mean? It sucks I want it now!"

Rep: "What exactly is it you want?"

Customer: "Froyo dammit!"

Rep: "Why does Froyo concern you?"

I'm pretty sure I could write the "rep script" in an hour

All rep have a script in front of them. Why i found this conversation, so interesting because he was taking hell lot of time to reply. I even asked once "anybody there" and then he asked me to hold on for a minute, so there must be huge discussion going on in background.

This thread is funny.

The only reason I want Samsung to release Froyo (and source code) for the Captivate is so ROM developers can start rebasing their ROMs on the new software. Screw Samsung lol

This tread has turned into a halarious one. I love it. Keep it comming!

Rep: "So with froyo showing on website, you want phone to have it?"

Me: "Umm yeah, isnt that why the hell you put it on the site, to let customers know that the phone comes with froyo? Thats a make or break deal."

Rep: "The Captivate will come with Android Operating System 2.1. The Website shows correct format."

Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Kevin'
Red text is my personal annotations on the convo
Kevin: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: Hi, I have a question about the Captivate, which I am planning on getting but do not yet own. Is that k?
Which is true, I don't own it yet and am planning to.
Kevin: Okay.
Kevin: Please go ahead with your query.
Visitor: The page for the Captivate says that it comes with Android 2.1, which is fine, but that it's upgradable to 2.2. Will I be prompted to upgrade whenever I first start the phone, or how will that work?
DUHHH BECAUSE I DONT USE FORUMS TO LOOK THIS SHIT UP MYSELF DUHHHH
Kevin: I understand that you want to know Android 2.2 version will get updated once turn on phone. Am I correct?
Kevin: I mean when you purchase the Captivate phone.
Visitor: Yeah, or if not, how the update can be obtained. Do I dl it form the downloads page?
Visitor: from*
Hooray for feigning ignorance.
Kevin: Thank you for confirming.
Kevin: I am glad to assist you.
Visitor:
Kevin: Captivate phone comes with Android 2.1 version.
Visitor: right
Kevin: I apologize, the Android 2.2 upgrade software is not yet released for users in U.S officially at this moment.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO
Visitor: ? Then when will it be out?
Kevin: We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.
As if I hadn't read those EXACT words over 9000 times before? >.>

Kevin: Should this become available, it will be posted on our website in the Samsung Download Center.
Visitor: Could you hold on for a sec?
Kevin: As android2.2 is about to release that is the reason it has been posted in the samsung website with features.
Kevin: Sure.
Visitor: So it's going to come out soon though?
Kevin: Yes.
Visitor: I hear that it'll increase performance by 450%, so that's good,
Visitor: but you said "inaccurate information and confusion" before right?
Visitor: That it could be caused if anyone knew the actual release date?
Kevin: Actually, on the Samsung website it is mentioned as Captivate comes with Android 2.2.
Kevin: Now it is with Android 2.1 only.
WTF are you trying to say? That it comes with both 2.1 and 2.2?!
Kevin: That's the reason I mentioned as you might get confused.
I sure as hell am confused now, I'll give you that.
Kevin: As android2.2 is about to release that is the reason it has been posted in the samsung website with features.
Even though they already undid it so that isn't even right. He's wrong about something that was a mistake in the first place, TIME PARADOX
Kevin: Once the update has been released by the Carrier people you will receive a notification message to install it on your handset.
"Carrier people"? ROFL
Visitor: Oh. Actually, would you mind if I sent a link to a picture which I find interesting on the matter?
Visitor: http://s803.photobucket.com/albums/yy315/joeddelco/?action=view¤t=CaptivatewithAndroid22_2.jpg
(The picture showing the site saying it comes with 2.2)
Kevin: No.
Kevin: Please sent it.
Kevin: Thank you.
Kevin: Let me check the weblink.
lol, weblink
Kevin: I am sorry to inform you, I am unable to open the weblink as we have limited access.
BS much?
Visitor: Oh. Well basically the picture (which I did not take, but still) shows your webpage for the Captivate. On the left (with the Features paragraphs) it says that it COMES with A 2.2, while on the right (under Specifications) it says the platform is 2.1. Confusion indeed. Photoshopped? Maybe.
Kevin: Yes.
YESH. The answer to everything, OBVIOUSLY.
Kevin: I agree with you.
Further BSing it.
Kevin: I apologize for the inconvenience.
Visitor: Well, I can't wait to be Captivated by the Captivate, I've heard great things about the Galaxy S, and 2.1 or 2.2 it's still one of the best Androids available, and the BEST on AT&T by FAR.
Psuedo-don't-sound-like-an-asshole line. Obligatory.
Visitor: Thanks for helping me out here
Kevin: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Visitor: Confusion has now subsided. I am good for now, Kevin. ty.
Visitor: WAIT HOLD ON ACTUALLY
Kevin: Have a nice day.
NO, DAMNIT!!! I actually was going to ask about Skype, but he was all "DENIED"
Kevin: It was a pleasure assisting you. Thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. If you have a minute, please click on the blue “X close” button to receive a transcript of your chat and fill out a brief survey to help us serve you better. Have a wonderful day!
Chat session has been terminated by the Samsung Agent.

Well, that accomplished nothing at all. For some reason I kinda choked when I was gonna start being a real dick. Guess I just got paranoid and IP-cautious or w/e.

What are you all trying to prove by busting a low level cs agents balls? And it's amusing how you mock his English when yours isn't that much better.

We get it, they give canned responses. Welcome to live support, they don't give any specific information and only vague answers. We have only known this for years...

I apologize, I didn't mean to be rude. Just busting their balls won't do much. They won't give any information for a reason. Using logic against them won't change that.

Samsung Captivate | Galaxy S | Samsung SGH-I897 - Cell Phones

They must have fixed it, there is no mention of 2.2 beyond saying "upgradeable to 2.2".
