i would say it is because 2.2 is so close,, that maybe any new shipped phone is on 2.2,,, just checked canadian website,, it is still saying 2.1 , so we will see shortly
I also see skype is working with galaxy s phones running 2.2

If you go letstalk.com, look for samsung captivate, scroll down under the descriptions you will find that the OS is Android 2.2 (foryo). I hope it's true.
The link has a section on media hub which isn't activated until you have froyo. I don't think that and the full ad at the top that mentions it are a typo. Also the little picture on the left shows a small android 2.1 robot standing outside of the phone with a 2.2 robot peaking out from behind the actual phone, this all says to me that they are updating the page to reflect the upcoming update. Wish they would say when...I could see them updating the page a while in advance.
Also, my Kies updated itself just now and I had previously checked a few days ago. When my phone connects Kies it now says "failed to connect to the model information server"
