Default Hey Hey Hey Goodbye

Couldn't stand the lag any longer.

Purchased a Inspire 4G on Sunday for $79.

The best phone decision I have made in years.

See you at HTC Inspire 4G - Android Forums

If anyone wants a slightly used Samsung Captivate cheap, IM me.

I've had a captivate since July. Just got an Inspire too. The phone is amazing isnt it? Just feels so smooth right out of the box. I have no desire to root or flash or anything. Sense is pretty amazing all by itself.

At the same time, I still have my captivate just to mess around with. The display on the captivate still blows me away, and the various roms and themes are fun to play with.

Feel the exact same way. The Inspire is just about perfect out of the box. I loved my Captivate when I got it July, but how things have changed.

Playing the the different ROMs for the Captivate is fun, I agree, but the lag on the Captivate just drove me insane. At first I thought, maybe I just have too much crap running, then I loaded the Inspire with the same amount of apps and in fact more, and the Inspire runs without any lag what-so-ever.

For those going to the Inspire, how is your speaker volume compared to the Captivate? I've been reading some comments that the speakers are weak so I thought I'd ask. Have any of you tried any devices to broadcast the phone through car speakers? Also do any of you know if the FM radio works? I'd like to be able to listen to the radio through the phone while in the car so that when calls come in it is totally hands free to switch over to talking on the phone rather than having to shut down the radio manually before answering. Thanks in advance for any information and have a nice day.

Congratulations. By lag, I'm assuming you mean both the device and Samsung.

What's better/different with it over the Captivate? I'm still new to the Cappy but I can't see it getting better than this...

use the (stock) captivate and do the "average" tasks of checking email, texting, browsing the web, searching the market, checking out stuff via the facebook app, etc.

then do all of that on the HTC inspire. it will be better, and it will be faster.

only thing you can really argue for the captivate is the better screen, but even that is considered to be subjective by many.

The screen is better on the captivate, but in all honesty, the inspire screen is a beauty and the average person will have a hard time telling the difference unless they are holding both phones in their hands at the same time and even then some people might actually like the Inspire better.

As far as the phone itself. Well, I use my phone mostly for Email via my company's exchange server. It takes 5-10 seconds after clicking the email to actually open it.

There is a general lag to the phone, opening aps, going to screen to screen, and sometimes when typing. A reboot fixes most of these issues for a while, but within a couple hours, back to lag.

Battery life - 6 hours max, and that is just limited use (email, a couple texts, facebook and twitter updates, 3-5 5 min phone calls, etc.). Mostly background stuff. No wifi, no surfing the net, no actually updates to twitter or facebook from the phone, no videos, ect. Nothing real crazy. Having to charge my phone in the middle of a work day is just unacceptable. Got this phone in July, got a new battery in August, and it it just getting worse.

I even went and flashed the phone with a couple differnent ROMS that claimed better battery life and while they did increase my batter a bit, I still have to charge around 6 or 7 hours.

NOTE: When I say have to charge I mean I am usually 15% or less.

The Inspire is fast. Everything zips along and I have yet to see any lag. HTC sense blow TW away. Of course, there are replacements, but...

The phone seems more solid to me (build wise).

Bigger screen does make a difference.

Battery - Over the last 2 days at work, I come home about 9+ hour days and the Inspire battery is holding strong at 61% and 55% on those two days. Basically same amount of use as my Captivate with some variation of course, but I never had my Captivate hold up anywhere near 60% after a work day. Best I ever got out of my Captivate was 30% at the end of the day and that was basically no use of the phone at all.

I loved my Captivate when I got it. I told everyone who asked me about phones, go get the Captivate. It was my first Android phone but I was really impressed, and in some areas I still am, but the battery and lag are just unacceptable to me.

Go try a Inspire...if think it cant get any better with the Captivate, you are going to be blown away by the Inspire.

I find it kind of funny that 2.2 is released 2 days after I switch my Captivate out for an Inspire 4G, but I do not regret my choice.

The Captivate was a very good phone don't get me wrong, but with what kstruck said about the lag. I have to agree that it was very painful at times to deal with, especially when I see how buttery smooth and fast transitions and loadings apps are in Sense 2.0.

I really hope you guys get a froyo build that works wonders for the Captivate and makes it the phone it was meant to be.

laggy phone + non-reliable GPS = failed phone = SGS phones

Got rid of my captivate, bought a nexus one (which I dont regret) and planning on getting the Atrix!

It seems as though there are a lot of us. The Inspire is the best phone I've used. The Captivate was great in a lot of ways, and was really close in what I wanted, but the Inspire hits the spot. Did I mention the flawless GPS on the Inspire?

Huh? Last I heard 2.2 (at least the "official" one) is not released.

Anyway, on another note, did you folks eat your contract by paying the ETF, or just buy the Inspire on a no contract price?

apparently AT&T customer support said a "tentative 2/21 date" (in the Froyo thread).

I think some bitched and moaned enough to AT&T about the Captivate that they get to buy the Inspire at the subsidized price.

It does not have a FFC. It does have the capability to act as a mobile hotspot. I think it handles up to 5 devices.

To answer a previous question, I did not eat the etf or buy full price. I have a family plan with some open lines. I used an open line to get it for $99, then removed the captivate and switched the Inspire to the captivates line. I was then able to remove the data plan from the open line.

that was stupid, Motorola moved up the release date for the Atrix to the 22nd of Feb. The Atrix will be a far superior phone. While i agree with your decision to eradicate the Captivate from your life, you should have waited one more week...

Pre-ordered the Atrix as well last Sunday. I plan on trying both and keeping the one I like best. While the Atrix looks great, I am really liking the Inspire, it may be a tougher decision than I thought.

Actually, I disagree. First, there is a 30 day return period, so I can still get the Atrix if I want. But, without having seen the Atrix yet, I think I prefer the Inspire. I like the 4.3 screen compared to the 4.0. It may not seem like a big difference, but it scratches the itch better for me.

Also, I love HTC sense. It just works so well. I have not heard good things about motoblur.

At the end of the day, there are a lot of phones out there. No one phone is right for everyone. I think the Inspire is right for me. Hardware specs aren't everything with a phone, as can be seen with the Captivate.

Completely agree Zonk. The Inspire is just a solid phone all around so far. I have had it now 5 days and it is the best phone I have ever had, and I have had a lot of phones since I got my first cell brick, err phone, back in 1991.

The 4.3" screen is a big plus for me as well, and you're right, it is not a huge size difference, but it does seem to make a big difference. I do love HTC sense, it is fast and solid and visually pleasing. I have not had a motorola device since I had the old clam shell blackberry like device back in 2000. I have heard a lot of negative feedback about Motoblur, but have yet to try it so I really can't comment about it.

I plan on using the Inspire until the Atrix comes on Monday or Tuesday (from what I hear), and then using the Atrix for a week and then deciding on which one to return. All I will say is that the Inspire is a really nice and I will actually be surprised now if I like the Atrix that much better considering I paid $79 for the thing compared to the $300 I paid for the Atrix.

Is it really going to be worth the $200+ extra? Time will tell.

I have 4 lines on my AT&T account so I have available upgrades at different times over the 2 years, basically, every 6-7 months one comes available. I had waited on one that was upgrade eligible in Nov for the new slew of phones due out at the beginning of this year so I got the full upgrade price for the Inspire. I am lucky that my job pays for my cell phone service and devices so even it really doesn't matter much to me.

Honestly guys, I thought I had my captivated's lag under control with voodoo. It wasn't until I first turned on this Inspire that I realized how truly SLOW the captivate was

I've come to the conclusion that the Captivate doesn't lag. It's just that we think too fast.
